919,477. Exhaust silencers. ASSOCIATED MOTOR CYCLES Ltd., and ROBERTSON, G. F. Jan. 18, 1961 [Jan. 20, 1960], No. 2149/60. Class 7(2) An exhaust gas silencer comprises one or more tubular members 9 coaxially mounted in closely spaced relation to an inner expansion chamber 5, to present outer expansion chambers 11, to enable exhaust gas to flow from the inner expansion chamber to the outer expansion chamber or chambers, through narrow section annulus or annuli 10. In another embodiment, an outlet in the form of slots or holes is arranged at the inlet end of the outer tubular member. In further embodiments, two or more silencers feed into a closed shell and discharge to atmosphere through one or more further silencers or one or more exhaust pipes feed into a non-resonant closed shell which is discharged through a silencer as described.
