Abstract

563,383. Silencers. VARMA, D. C. Feb. 5, 1943, No. 1964. [Class 7 (ii)] An air inlet pipe B for an intake silencer leads to a baffle C adapted to direct the air slightly backwards and transversely of the longitudinal axis of the pipe into an expansion chamber A. As shown, the pipe B has a perforated conical. outer end and leads to a spherical baffle C having perforations in the half thereof adjacent the end of the pipe B. A second baffle E on an outlet pipe D is formed with perforations E<1> which direct air from the chamber A transversely across the tube D. In a modification, a conical gauze replaces the conical outer end of the tube B and the chamber C comprises a hemisphere mounted by a spider on the inner end of the tube B.
