Abstract

563,382. Silencers. VARMA. D. C. Feb. 5, 1943, No. 1963. [Class 7 (ii)] In an exhaust silencer, the gases expand into interstices between metallic balls C<1>, B<1> in one or more spherical chambers B, C and between refractory material A' in one or more chambers A. The gases pass to the chamber C through perforations in the conical end of a plug D<1> in an inlet tube D which is closed at its inner end D' but provided in its wall with perforations D' through which the gases pass transversely into the chamber C. A further tube E, closed at both ends but having perforations in its walls near the ends, compels the gases to flow transversely from the chamber C into the tube and then transversely out of the tube into the refractory material in the chamber A. A perforated tube F similar to the tube E co-operates with the spherical chamber B to lead the gases to a perforated outlet cone G.
