Abstract

1462842 Pulse converter for silencing gaseous flow TENNECO Inc 14 Jan 1974 [14 March 1973] 40023/76 Divided out of 1462841 Heading F1B A pulse converter for use in a pulsating gas flow system comprises a tubular housing with inlet 525 and outlet 527 communicating with inlet and outlet chambers 551, 553 which are separated by transverse walls 533, 541 from sub-volumes 555, 557 which are connected by a gas flow tube 549 extending longitudinally of the housing, the inlet and outlet chambers 551, 553 being connected to the respective sub-volumes 555, 557 via gas flow passages 531, 539 located to enable gas to flow past the peripheral edges of the transverse walls 533, 541. Openings 535, 543 communicate the passages 531, 539 with the sub-volumes 555, 557. The pulse converter may be used upstream of a conventional silencer (27), Fig. 1 (not shown), in the exhaust system of a rotary piston engine (1) or a two stroke engine (not shown), as in Specification 1462841.
