Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the cleanup efficiency and miniaturize a catalyst by a system wherein a muffler equipped with a catalyst is connected to an exhaust pipe of each cylinder and the exhaust pipes are connected with a voluminous connecting chamber at the upper stream side of the catalyst. CONSTITUTION:Mufflers 19 provided with catalyst 29 at the upper stream side of silencing chambers 21, 22 are connected with exhaust pipes 12, 13 led from each cylinder. The exhaust pipes 12, 13 are connected with each other through a voluminous connecting chamber 11 at the upper stream side of catalyst 29. The major part of the exhaust gas coming out alternately from each cylinder is sucked into the chamber 11 at the time when it flows into the connecting chamber 11 and is stored firstly by expanding within said chamber. Consequently the pulsation of exhaust gas is controlled and the exhaust gas volume which contacts with each catalyst is reduced and as a result the cleanup efficiency can be improved and at the same time the catalyst can be miniaturized.
