Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the pulsation of exhaust pressure in each cylinder from interfering with the exhaust stroke in other cylinders, by dividing many passages of monolithic catalyst into groups as part of an independent exhaust gas passage. CONSTITUTION:A branch pipe 14 communicated with an exhaust port 4 of No.1 cylinder joins a branch pipe 20 communicated with an exhaust port 10 of No.4 cylinder to form No.1 compound passage, and a branch pipe 16 communicated with an exhaust port 6 of No.2 cylinder joins a branch pipe 18 communicated with an exhaust port 8 of No.3 cylinder to form No.2 compound passage. An opening 54 located upstream of No.1 monolithic catalyst 58 is divided by a partition wall 72 into No.1 and No.2 auxiliary passages 74, 76. Accordingly exhaust gas is substantially fed in both passages 74, 76 without interfering with each other.
