Abstract

PURPOSE: To make the inertial supercharging effect of the intake system of an engine having six straight cylinders and raise the output of the engine, by dividing the intake system into two parts connected to two groups of the cylinders and by making the cross-sectional areas of both the intake parts different from each other.
CONSTITUTION: An intake manifold 1 is divided by a partition wall 6 into an intake passage 4 connected to the three front cylinders and another intake passage 5 connected to the rear three cylinders. An intake pipe 2 is provided with another partition wall 7, which divides the interior of the intake pipe 2 continuously to the partition wall 6 provided in the intake manifold 1. The cross-sectional areas of the intake passages 10, 11 are made different from each other to eliminate the difference between the inertial supercharging effects upon the front and rear groups of the cylinders. The supercharging effect is thus made uniform on all the cylinders.
