Abstract

PURPOSE: To eliminate a wide range of noises, by providing a porous pipe having a silencing material inside, at a part for releasing exhaust gas into the atmosphere.
CONSTITUTION: The exhaust gas of an engine flows through a catalyst 2 and a main muffler 3 into an auxiliary muffler 4 provided at a part for releasing the exhaust gas into the atmosphere. A tapered pipe 7 having numerous holes 12 in the conical surface is provided at the inlet port of the auxiliary muffler 4. The exhaust gas enters into an expansion chamber 9 between cylinders 5, 6 through the holes 12 of the cylinder 6. A wide range of noises are eliminated by the silencing action of the expansion chamber 6 and that of a silencing material 10 in the porous cylinder 6. After that, the exhaust gas is released into the atmosphere through the holes 8 of a tapered pipe 12 of the same shape as the former tapered pipe 7.
