Abstract
PURPOSE:To release exhaust gas into the atmosphere after lowering the temperature of the gas, by causing the exhaust gas in the muffler of a motorcycle downstream to its exhaust catalyst to perform multistage expansion so that the velocity and pressure of the exhaust gas are reduced enough. CONSTITUTION:The exhasut gas of a motorcycle is purified by a catalyst 15 so that the temperature of the gas is made high and then it enters into a muffler 14. In the muffler, the exhaust gas sequentially flows through a communication pipe 27 not concentric to the muffler body, an expansion chamber B, another communication pipe 28, another expansion chamber C, still another communication pipe 29 having a silencing material 30 and still another expansion chamber D having another silencing material 31. For that reason, the exhaust gas expands so enough that its velocity and pressure are reduced. After that, the exhaust gas collides against a stop plate 32 so that the streams of the gas are mixed together. The exhaust gas is thereafter released into the atmosphere through the holes 33 of the stop plate 32.
