Abstract

1447877 Making silencers TECUMSEH PRODUCTS CO 24 Oct 1973 [25 Oct 1972] 49488/73 Heading B3A [Also in Division F1] A one-piece baffle member 50 is disposed in a chamber 16 defined by a body 12 and a cover 14 between a chamber inlet 26 and outlets 32. The body has bends 74, 76 in its side walls 24, 25 which obstruct movement of the member 50 longitudinally of the walls in one direction and positively locate the member prior to projection welding to the body and fixing of the cover to the body. Projecting flanges 36, 36<SP>1</SP>, 38, 381 around bolt holes in the cover and body locate spacer tubes 43, 44 on either side of a curved baffle 46 when the flanges 18, 20 of the body and cover are crimped together. The outlets 32 may be provided in the end wall 29, top wall 23 or the bottom wall of the body.
