Abstract
678,344. Inlet and exhaust, silencers. VOKES, Ltd. Oct. 12. 1950, No. 24975/50. Addition to 602,859. Class 7(ii) In the silencer for gas streams flowing to and from an appar a t u s generating sound waves described in the parent Specification, wherein an inner tube for the passage of the gases is provided with apertures 6, spaced to register with the peaks of the sound waves or their harmonics, giving access to resonant sound chambers 4 around the tube, a cylindrical member 7. e.g. a perforated metal tube having end caps 8, 9, is arranged on the axis of the inner tube and leaves an unobstructed passage for gas flow past the apertures. The member may be filled with sound-absorbing material, e.g. glass wool or subdivided into chambers, the lengths of which are chosen to resonate to selected frequency bands. The perforations may be square and have jagged edges directed towards the centre of the member. A perforated tube 5 may reinforce the inner tube.
