Abstract

1,009,262. Rolling metals. DAVY & UNITED ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Jan. 8, 1963 [Jan. 8, 1962], No. 735/62. Heading B3M. A rolling mill stand includes a pair of housings 10 and 11, each having a window through which pass horizontal tracks 24 and 25 on which vertical roll assemblies are mounted, the assemblies being slidable on the tracks to allow removal of the assemblies from the stand. A withdrawal piston, mounted on the base 14 of a horizontal U-shaped projection of the housing 10, moves the assembly 16 to the left, so that a cable 33 of a lifting device secured to the stand, can be attached to the assembly. A trolley 34 receives the lowered assembly after releasing latch supports 32. The assembly 17 is similarly removed after first being pulled to the left along the tracks 24 and 25 by the cable. New roll assemblies are replaced in a similar manner, pulleys being attached to the hooks at 36 and 38 to manipulate the first assembly. The lifting device may be slidably mounted on a beam 39, in which case a bridging piece 30 for the tracks 24 and 25 is unnecessary. An hydraulic lifting device, Fig. 5, includes adjustable chains 62, a trolley being provided which accommodates the vertical roll assemblies and, in addition, the horizontal roll assemblies of the mill.
