Abstract

The machine, including several knitting units, has the carriage of each unit connected to a common endless drive chain extending the length of the machine and pref. a long shaft of a support sprocket of the drive chain is driven via pref. a secondary drive belt by a reversible drive mechanism which can be adjusted to vary the length of the traverse of the carriages. A common patterning mechanism for the units is also driven by the reversible drive mechanism. Pref. the lay shaft of the support bracket drives a cam which operates a panel and ratchet mechanism to drive a control shaft, from which the patterning mechanism is driven and pref. the control shaft is used to adjust via endless screws the limit elements for reversing the reversible drive mechanism and the abutments for liming the length of traverse of the carriages. The knitting units can be accurately controlled to form identical articles.
