1314753 Welding by pressure LIGHTGITTER GmbH 19 April 1971 19057/71 Divided out of 1314754 Heading B3R Apparatus for feeding wires to a grid welding machine comprises feed means (not shown) for feeding wire from a coil to a table B, cutting means A for cutting preset lengths of wire on the table, a magazine C to which the cut wires 14 are fed transversely of their length and a carriage D adapted to lift wires 14 from the magazine to transport them to a position adjacent the welding machine and to feed them longitudinally into the welding machine. Limit switches 1, 2 are contacted by the wire fed to the table B and operate respectively to switch off the feed means and actuate the cutting mechanism A. Pneumatic piston-and-cylinder units 3, 4 feed each cut wire transversely of the table B to compartments in chains 5 which are fed intermittently by piston-and-cylinder units 9, 10 operating ratchet-and-pawl drive mechanisms 11, 12. The carriage D is mounted on rails 16 and has two shafts 19 each with a set of feed pulleys arranged thereon, the shafts being arranged for vertical adjustment by cam mechanisms so that the carriage can be moved underneath the wires 14 in the magazine C, the shafts raised to lift therefrom a set of wires and the carriage then returned to a position in line with a guide device E through which the wires may be fed -to the welding machine. The guide device E comprises pulleys mounted on a shaft at adjustable spacing so as to control the spacing of the wires fed into the machine. The pulleys of both the carriage D and the guide device E comprise pairs of slightly divergent discs carried on a hub. The shafts 19 of the carriage D are driven to feed the wires into the welding machine.
