Abstract

622,373. Bed - reciprocating apparatus. FURNIVAL & CO., Ltd., and FURNIVAL, F. S. March 14, 1947, No. 7109. [Class 100 (ii)] In a mechanism for reciprocating the bed 1 of a printing machine, a single rack 3 secured to the underside of the bed is engaged alternately by two pinions 8 and 9 driven in opposite directions and located in two parallel vertical planes. The two pinions 8 and 9 are mounted in bell-crank levers 10 and 12 rotatably mounted on brackets 15 and 16 concentric with a shaft 6 which carries two pinions 4 and 5. The pinions 8 and 9 are raised and lowered by rollers 11 and 13 actuated by a doublefaced cam 14, the speed and profile of which effects the lowering of one pinion when the other is raised so that the raised pinion remains in engagement with the rack 3 for its whole length. The pinion 8 is driven through a pinion 7 by the pinion 4 and the pinion 9 directly by the pinion 5. Specification 613,676 is referred to.
