1291732 Knitting machines WIRKMASCHINENBAU KARL-MARX-STADT VEB 15 Jan 1970 2090/70 Heading D1C In a take-up for a flat-bed knitting machine producing variable width fabric, the start of the fabric is taken up by a hook take-up comprising hooks 52 each formed by one rightangled bend and mounted in segments, two or more of which are mounted in a supporting means 48 to form one of two half rows of hooks all pointing in the same direction along the bar towards their respective selvages and the take-up is continued by a plurality of rollers 10 on a fixed mounting and rotatable pressure rollers 20 on a pivotal mounting 21, 22 Rollers 20 are spring-biassed and both sets of rollers have rough coverings. A rove 32 connecting push rods 31 engages the fabric when the cam carriage is reversed so that it slides over plate 33. Take-up rollers 10 are driven via chains (13), Fig. 4 (not shown), and discs 14 by adjustable springs 12 a free wheel being provided so that, on reversal of the carriage, shaft 16 can return discs 14 against springs 12. A motor 9 drives shafts 16 and 22 through gearing and clutches to cause rollers 20 to be pivoted together and away from rollers 20 and to stress or relieve tension springs 15. The two means 48 form one comb 42 with slides 43 guided in guideways 41 and having rails 49 running on bearings 54. Rack bars 44 on slides 43 are engaged by gear wheels 46 at the ends of a shaft 45. The takeup 40 is moved vertically by eccentrics 39 on a shaft 66 driven by a motor 37 which engage rollers 47 secured to slides 43. Bars 48 are moved horizontally by nuts 57 on a screw spindle 58 with opposite handed screw threads at its ends driven by a motor 60. In operation, the fabric is taken up by the hooks until a limit switch is engaged when the rollers move in and the hooks are disengaged.
