1378341 Knitting TORAY INDUSTRIES Inc 26 Jan 1972 [28 Jan 1971 1 June 1971] 3598/72 Headings D1C and D1K A knitting machine for producing warp and weft inter-knitted fabrics comprises a plurality of juxtaposed knitting needles 3 reciproca table along their lengths in succession to knit a weft 8 supplied thereto, a guide plate 11 engaging warps 21 to locate one at one side of each needle 3 and a warp transfer means 19 which moves each warp in succession transversely over at least one needle undergoing reciprocation so that the needle forms it into a loop simultaneously with forming a weft loop. As shown, Fig. 1, a carriage 1 carries a yarn guide arm 6 lockable at either end of holder 4 according to the direction of movement of the carriage. A bracket travels along a rail 9 in synchronism with carriage 1 and has a pinion 16 meshing with a rack 13 associated with plate 11 which through gearing, drives warp transferer 19 to lift the warps over the needles and into the next adjacent hollow of plate 11. In a circular knitting machine, the carriage 1 rotates continuously in the same direction and therefore the warps do not move perpendicular to the wefts. Two warp transfer blocks 31a, 31b are provided and these transfer the warps respectively backwards and forwards and are associated with two weft yarn guides 7a, 7b. The teeth on plate 11 are differently shaped for circular knitting. The transferer disc 19 may be replaced by an endless travelling belt, Fig. 6 (not shown) or by an endless tape, rope or chain. In another arrangement, Fig. 9, plate 11 is movable transversely to the warp running direction being shogged against spring 8 by the links 83 of a chain 82 which are of heights whose differences are equal to an integral number of teeth on plate 11.
