Abstract
A continuous wood shearing and drying process comprises shearing wood stock into sheets by a wood-shearing machine A, passing the sheets by conveyers B, C to a drying machine D where the sheets reach a desired moisture content and, when cooled, are directed by another conveyer E to a rotating perforated drum E 1 from which the sheets are easily detached for stacking. The shearing machine A reduces wood stock into sheets and has an extractor e for passing the sheets to the conveyer B upon which the sheets are held by suction applied to a casing B 1 below perforated belts t. From the conveyer B, the sheets pass between upper and lower belts C to the drying apparatus where they follow a zig-zag path and are then passed between upper and lower belts of a conveyer E to the perforated drum E 1 . The drum is divided by a partition e 1 into upper and lower parts, the upper part being subjected by a fan to suction to hold the sheets thereon and the lower part subjected to pressure so that the sheets are easily detached for stacking.
