Abstract

1,013,632. Drying apparatus. MASCHINENFABRIK FRIEDRICH HAAS G.m.b.H. Nov. 18, 1963 [Aug. 9, 1963], No. 45370/63. Heading F4G. Apparatus for drying loose material, e.g. fibrous or granular comprises a conveyer belt 7, Fig. 2, on which the material is carried in a layer 15a above an axial fan 16 having a vertical axis of rotation so as to draw an air stream downwardly through the material at one portion of the belt into the fan inlet and then directed through a heater 19 by an air guide having side walls 20, 21 to direct the air upwardly through the belt and material layer over a greater area than the area of the portion through which the air is drawn downwards. A removable filter 18 is mounted between the conveyer and fan and a horizontal wall is mounted above the conveyer. One or more fans may be positioned beneath the belt. The air may be passed upwardly through the belt with a component of motion either contrary to or in the direction of motion of the belt by various forms of guides, e.g. a substantially triangular prismatic body may be mounted in a chamber beneath the belt and extend across the drier belt, Fig. 4 (not shown), or a series of slanting jets may be formed in a partition below the belt, Fig. 6 (not shown). Several conveyers may be arranged serially, the speeds of which are so related that at the start of the drying travel a small depth of layer of material is present which becomes increasingly greater as the drying process progresses.
