[Also in Division F4] Apparatus for treating loose fibrous material comprises fixed, spaced surfaces 33, 35 between which the material is both treated e.g. carbonised, and conveyed by heated air from fans 32 therebelow to an endless conveyer band 37 which is so pivoted as to retard the speed of movement and removal of the material through the space 58 between the surfaces the treating and conveying air may be introduced through both surfaces either or both of which are formed with jetshaped apertures, and the space 58 may be divided into several superposed sections fed by air from a common fan.
