Abstract
Un método para mejorar el rendimiento de un cultivo producido por una pluralidad de plantas de trigo, en donde dicho método comprende poner en contacto dichas plantas con al menos una composición que comprende al menos un ciclopropeno, en donde dicha puesta en contacto se lleva a cabo mientras dichas plantas están en un sitio distinto de un edificio, y en donde dichas plantas de trigo se ponen en contacto con dicha composición durante o después de una cualquiera o más de las etapas de crecimiento F8.0 (hoja bandera visible), F9.0 (lígula de hoja bandera visible), F10.0 (estado de bota) o F10.5 (espigazón completa) de la escala de Feekes de dichas plantas de trigo.

Polvo 2 = polvo que contiene 2,0% en peso de 1-MCP, disponible como AFXRD-020 en Rohm and Haas Co.
Adyuvante 1 = aceite "AF-400," que contiene
Aceite de pulverización PureSpray 10, disponible en Petro Canada Co., y tensioactivo Aerosol™ OT, disponible en Cytec Industries, y tensioactivo Tomadol™, disponible en Tomah Co.
NAA = ácido 1-naftalenoacético
AVG = aminoetoxivinilglicina
En los siguientes ejemplos se usaron estos procedimientos:
Un depósito de pulverización se llenó con aproximadamente dos tercios del volumen total del agua requerida. Se pesó la cantidad del polvo 1 o polvo 2, según la tasa y volumen total de pulverización que se prepara. La cantidad adecuada se calculó para dar 1% en v/v del volumen total de pulverización. Se añadió el adyuvante 1 al depósito de pulverización, que se agitó hasta que la mezcla se volvió blanco lechoso. Se añadió el polvo 1 o polvo 2 al recipiente de pulverización, que después se agitó suavemente (no enérgicamente). Se añadió el resto del agua, asegurándose que todo el polvo estaba húmedo y arrastrándolo de los laterales del depósito (si se había depositado algo en los mismos). Después el depósito de pulverización se movió con movimientos circulares o se agitó durante al menos dos minutos (2-5 minutos) para asegurar un buen mezclamiento. Entre 5 y 60 min después, las plantas se pulverizaron con la mezcla.
Se usaron boquillas de abanico plano, que producían tamaños de gotas de 100 a 500 micrómetros. La tasa de pulverización de la mezcla era 500 litros por hectárea. Se usó pulverizador de espalda. La pulverización se realizó antes de las 10:00 am.
En los siguientes ejemplos, se usan estas abreviaturas: ha para hectárea, mT para tonelada métrica, AI para 1-MCP, y p para peso.
Ejemplo 1: General, maíz (ejemplo de referencia)
Se plantó maíz de variedad híbrida FR1064 X LH185, 72.000 plantas por hectárea, se trató con nitrógeno con 22 kg/ha (120 lb. por acre). Se usó el polvo 1. El tiempo de tratamiento (es decir, etapa de desarrollo a la que se llevó a cabo el tratamiento), cantidades de tratamiento (gramos de AI por hectárea) y los resultados fueron los siguientes. La medición simple del rendimiento se da como toneladas métricas (mT) por hectárea. También se muestran otras mediciones del rendimiento. Los tratamientos condujeron a un aumento del rendimiento en una o más mediciones.
