SON CONOCIDOS LOS PROCEDIMIENTOS PARA LA OBTENCION DE 2HIDROXI-4-METILTIO-N-BUTIRATO DE AMONIO (MHAAS) TRATANDO EL ACIDO 2-HIDROXI-4-METILTIO-BUTIRICO (MHA) CON AMONIACO, O POR AISLAMIENTO DE MHA, QUE COMPRENDE DIMEROS Y OLIGOMEROS SUPERIORES, A PARTIR DE UNA MEZCLA OBTENIDA AÑADIENDO ACIDO CIANHIDRICO (HCN) AL ALDEHIDO METILMERCAPTOPROPIONICO (MMP), E HIDROLIZANDO EN CONDICIONES ACIDAS INORGANICAS LA CIANHIDRINA DEL ALDEHIDO METILMERCAPTOPROPIONICO OBTENIDA (MMP-CH). PARA OBTENER 2-HIDROXI-4-METILTIO-N-BUTIRATO DE AMONIO Y MEZCLAS QUE LO CONTIENEN CON UNA ELEVADA FLUIDEZ Y UNA PROPORCION MUY BAJA EN OLIGOMEROS POR UN PROCESO BASADO EXCLUSIVAMENTE EN ETAPAS "LIQUIDAS", DE ACUERDO CON LA INVENCION LA MEZCLA SE TRATA CON UN DISOLVENTE INERTE NO MISCIBLE EN AGUA O SOLO PARCIALMENTE, HASTA QUE SE OBTIENE UN PRIMER EXTRACTO ORGANICO Y UN PRIMER REFINADO ACUOSO; EL PRIMER EXTRACTO ORGANICO SE DESCOMPONE EN UN SEGUNDO EXTRACTO ORGANICO Y EN UN SEGUNDO REFINADO ACUOSO TRATANDOLO CON AMONIACO EN SEPARACION DE FASES, OBTENIENDOSE CON FORMACION DE SAL CON RETROEXTRACCION DEL MHA COMO MHAAS EN EL SEGUNDO REFINADO ACUOSO, Y EL MHAAS SE AISLA DEL SEGUNDO REFINADO ACUOSO.
