Definitions

  • the invention relates to a grinding device according to the preamble of claim 1 and an abrasive.
  • a grinding device is, for example, from US2001031612 A1 known. It discloses a polishing pad which is held on a plate by structures that do not require adhesive.
  • the polishing pad has an upper polishing surface and a lower surface.
  • the underside has a surface profile configured to mate with a complementary surface profile on a panel.
  • Such grinding devices consist of a dimensionally stable support element, which can be in the form of a support plate or as a sanding block, the latter for manual use.
  • the abrasive is in the form of a flexible sanding sheet or a sanding belt, which is held on the support element by means of a Velcro connection, for which purpose the support element/abrasive pairing each has correspondingly designed Velcro layers.
  • abrasive this is provided on the side of a carrier opposite an abrasive layer consisting of an abrasive grain, which can consist of paper, foil, fabric or a combination thereof.
  • the unpublished DE 10 2017 108 191 proposed to hold the abrasive on the support element, i.e. a support plate, in a material, positive or frictional manner, with the frictional connection being produced by sucking the abrasive on the support plate.
  • the cohesive connection is made by gluing, whereby the contact surface of the carrier with the support plate is equipped with a self-adhesive layer.
  • the construction of the carrier to provide the Velcro or self-adhesive layer is cost-intensive, especially since such a layer must be designed in multiple stages. In addition, they are subject to relatively high levels of wear and tear due to the connection being made and released.
  • Holding the abrasive on the support element using a vacuum requires special measures with regard to air permeability and sealing.
  • the backing pad must have openings through which air is sucked in to hold the abrasive on it.
  • the disadvantage here is that the carrier is permeable, which means that grinding dust gets into the connection area with the support element, which leads to considerable problems as the operating time increases.
  • a grinding device in which a flexible belt or band serving as a feed and support element is frictionally connected to one side of the belt.
  • the US 5,109,638 A discloses a multilayer abrasive material in which a side facing away from the abrasive layer is formed from a durable, non-adhesive backing material with a textured outer surface.
  • the invention is based on the object of further developing a grinding device and an abrasive of the generic type in such a way that they are easier and more cost-effective to produce and their handling is easier.
  • the coefficient of friction between the support element and the abrasive held over its entire surface is sufficient to absorb the longitudinal and transverse forces that occur during grinding, with the coefficient of friction of the pairing being between 0.2 and 0.5 according to the invention.
  • Such a coefficient of friction is sufficient, particularly when selectively grinding a finished surface, with the frictional force between the backing plate and the abrasive being generated by pressing when the grinding device, ie the supporting element and the abrasive, are on the surface to be processed is pressed.
  • This frictional force is preferably between 0.5 and 2.0 N/mm 2 .
  • the abrasive is designed to be flexible.
  • the abrasive which can be available as a single sheet or as an abrasive belt, consists of a carrier and an abrasive layer held on it. While the carrier, which forms a contact layer to the support element, is constructed in several stages according to the prior art, in particular prepared for a Velcro or adhesive connection, the carrier according to the invention is only made in one layer from a suitable plastic that is both elastic and flexible should.
  • Polymers, elastomers or leather are particularly suitable for this, with the thickness of the carrier being between 0.7 and 4 mm.
  • the flexible and elastic properties of the carrier make it possible to grind both flat and curved surfaces, the latter being convex or concave.
  • the frictional connection between the support element and the abrasive is particularly advantageous when the abrasive is designed in the form of a web. Since the sanding belt is precisely aligned and guided in the connection area with the support element, problem-free positioning between the support element and the sanding sheet is guaranteed.
  • the sanding belt is raised for the further cycle of the support element or the sanding belt slides over the support plate if the lifting or tearing force with which the sanding belt is released from the support element is greater than the frictional force between the support element and the sanding belt.
  • the grinding itself is carried out, as mentioned, in a point or area manner, with orbital, rotating or vibrating movements.
  • the carrier carrying the abrasive can be made of paper, while the contact surface resting on the support element is made of an elastomeric, rubber-like or leather material.
  • the surface assigned to the support element is slightly structured and also made of an elastomeric, rubber-like or leather material.
  • the rough surface of the support formed from a fabric is slightly structured on the side held frictionally on the support element and may be formed from a foam. Additional anti-slip agents are not absolutely necessary for the pairings mentioned.
  • the surfaces can be dry, moistened or wet, with a corresponding influence on the friction pairs.
  • the only figure shows a schematic side view of a grinding device according to the invention.
  • the figure shows a grinding device 1 for removing a defect, in particular a finished surface of an object (not shown) by grinding.
  • This grinding device 1 has a robot arm 2 and a support element 3 held thereon in the form of a support plate, which can be moved to the surface for grinding the defect area, for example orbitally, vibrating or rotating.
  • an abrasive 5 in the example in the form of a grinding belt, rests frictionally on the support element 3, the back of the abrasive 5, so to speak, resting on the support element 3 is designed as a carrier, which on the other hand carries an abrasive grain that contacts the surface of the object.
  • the abrasive 5 is held in a dispenser in the form of a cassette 4 and wound in a roll 6 onto an unwinding shaft 7 and is wound onto a winding shaft 8, preferably in cycles, in accordance with the grinding process.
  • the frictional connection between the support element 3 and the abrasive 5 is released by lifting the support element 3, so that the abrasive 5 can be continued without hindrance.
