Definitions
- the invention relates to a protective helmet having an outer shell and an inner layer.
- Such helmets are well known, see for example EP 1 300 089 and find use for example in sports, such as skiing or cycling.
- the invention is particularly directed (but not limited) to a bicycle helmet.
- the outer shell is generally formed relatively rigid. It serves to protect the inner (softer) inner layer.
- the inner layer consists for example of EPS, an expanded polystyrene rigid foam, and serves in particular for damping the impact energy in the event of a fall.
- an adjustable support ring may be provided, with which it is possible to adapt the helmet to the head size.
- the inner layer sufficient damping properties having. This is partly guaranteed by the material selection and partly by the thickness of the inner layer. On the other hand, it is necessary for optimum protection that the inner layer is good, so large, rests against the head of the helmet wearer.
- the invention has for its object to provide a helmet, which on the one hand has a slim appearance and on the other hand over known helmets improved fit.
- the inner layer has a plurality of cushions, which ensure an optimal fit of the helmet on the user's head.
- the cushions ensure a good cushioning effect in the event of a fall of the helmet wearer, and surprisingly even when the cushions are directly connected to the outer shell of the protective helmet, that is without further damping layer, as proposed in a further development of the invention.
- essentially exclusively Inner layer acts as a damping layer.
- the outer shell or a functional and / or decorative layer contribute to the damping, since these components have at least to some extent elastic properties , This should be taken into account with the phrase "essentially exclusively”.
- each protective helmet has a layer intended for damping. In known helmets, this layer is usually made of hard foam. In the context of the development according to the invention, this damping layer should be formed essentially exclusively from the cushions or the inner layer comprising the cushions.
- only the pads form a contact surface for the head of the wearer.
- only the cushions come into contact with the head.
- the cushions take over the fitting and damping function.
- a plurality of cushions are provided, preferably at least 10 cushions, in particular at least 15 cushions.
- several pillows of the helmet is on the one hand particularly adaptable, on the other hand can be kept very slim by several pillows, the helmet shape. This not only has optical advantages, but also considerable advantages in terms of the handling of the helmet.
- the individual pillows allow good ventilation of the head, which ensures excellent comfort.
- a substantially pylonenstumpfieri shape of the pad is particularly advantageous.
- the free end area is crowned.
- the cushions have a round cross-section. It is expected that such a pillow shape will result in a particularly good fit of the helmet on the head of the helmet wearer.
- a round cross-sectional shape permits an advantageous division of the cushions.
- the pillows are part-spherical, in particular spheroidal.
- angular for example rectangular or square pillow shapes. It is considered useful if the cushions have a certain crown, so that the inner layer of the helmet comes as possible over its entire circumference to rest against the head of the helmet wearer.
- the pillows are filled with small globules, which are movable against each other.
- damping behavior of such pads is significantly better than the damping behavior of conventional inner shells made of foamed plastics such as polystyrene.
- a particularly advantageous embodiment of the invention is, however, characterized in that the inner layer has at least two carrier sections, on each of which a plurality of cushions are arranged.
- the carrier sections have a carrier layer which is flat, preferably flat sheet formed. The aim is that the carrier material has a certain rigidity.
- the carrier sections have advantages both in terms of manufacturing technology and in terms of construction engineering.
- a multiplicity of cushions can be produced simultaneously by the carrier sections.
- the inner layer can be produced in a particularly simple manner by the arrangement (previously prefabricated) carrier sections.
- the required curvature of the inner layer can be formed particularly advantageous by a plurality of carrier sections.
- the carrier section has a flat carrier layer and a top layer forming the cushions.
- the topsheet is glued or welded to the backing layer.
- individual (possibly closed) pads are formed, which are applied to the carrier layer, in particular glued.
- a plurality of carrier sections are expediently connected to one another. It can be advantageously provided that between the support sections a space is formed. This space ensures additional ventilation of the helmet, especially if in the outer shell also clearances or openings are provided, as will be explained later.
- the carrier sections can be directly connected to one another, for example by force-locking (for example by gluing) and / or by form-fitting (for example by rivets or the like).
- a form-fitting composite offers the advantage of easy accurate alignment of the carrier sections to each other.
- the support sections are clipped into each other.
- a riveted joint is also considered advantageous.
- a screw connection is conceivable. It offers the advantage of solvability.
- the support sections are directly connected to the outer shell.
- the connection of the carrier sections to the outer shell can also provide the connection of the carrier sections with one another.
- the inner layer consists for example of three support sections which are interconnected. Although it is advantageously provided that a free space is formed between the support sections in partial areas, it is considered expedient if at least one support section forms at least one bulge, which is preferably at least partially covered with a pillow, and that the bulge in a recess of a engages adjacent support section. As a result, two support sections form a kind of toothing, which not only increases the stability of the inner layer, but also ensures an increase in the pad density, and that is when the bulge is at least partially covered with a pillow.
- two adjacent carrier sections in at least one section overlap.
- the overlap occurs in the region of the bulge / indentation of adjacent support sections. The overlap ensures a (even) more stable formation of the inner layer.
- the ventilation of the protective helmet according to the invention was addressed, which ensures a good wearing comfort.
- the inner layer has a plurality of openings.
- the carrier section has a plurality of openings. The openings serve as vents and are advantageously arranged between the cushions.
- a functional and / or decorative layer is arranged between the inner layer and the outer shell.
- the functional and / or decorative layer is used in particular when the outer shell has a plurality of openings, in particular more than 10 openings, as it is considered to be preferred.
- the plurality of openings provide primarily for adequate ventilation of the helmet. In addition, they have the advantage of considerable material and weight savings.
- the advantageous development of the helmet according to the invention also creates a completely new helmet concept.
- the functional and / or Decor layer around a textile layer. Due to the functional and / or decorative layer, it is possible to give the helmet by different decorations each different overall impressions.
- the functional and / or decorative layer not only have different patterns (patterns), but also be different thickness, for example, to adapt to seasons. It is conceivable, for example, a thick wool or fur layer for the winter and for the summer a light fabric layer.
- the functional and / or decorative layer is visible through the openings of the outer shell of the helmet, with an adjustment of the opening size and number must be made in terms of the safety of the helmet.
- the functional and / or decorative layer is arranged directly behind the outer shell.
- the functional and / or decorative layer is particularly visible in a generally slim helmet structure.
- the cushion provided with inner layer taken by itself provides the shock absorption of the helmet.
- the functional and / or decorative layer optionally has the function of an optical design of the protective helmet (in connection with the openings in the outer shell), the thermal insulation and the moisture protection. In the latter case, it may be, for example, a coated functional and / or decorative layer.
- the inner layer and the functional and / or decorative layer are releasably secured at individual locations on the outer shell. This has the advantage that with a single connection all three Components can be fixed in position.
- the attachment takes place, for example, by rivets, which pass through the outer shell, the functional and / or decorative layer and the inner layer.
- the attachment is detachable.
- a snap fastener or a screw into consideration.
- a releasable attachment has the significant advantage that individual parts of the helmet according to the invention can be replaced, for example in the event of wear.
- the functional and / or decorative layer is changeable.
- the wearer of the helmet can expediently replace the functional and / or decorative layer as needed.
- the owner of a helmet has a plurality of functional and / or decorative layers to choose from and selects a particular functional and / or decorative layer according to the requirements and stock the helmet.
- the protective helmet it may be sufficient that not all pillows rest equally on the user's head. Rather, it can be provided in a development of the invention that at least two pillows with respect to the outer shell have different heights. The different heights ensure that only a few pillows rest against the head. Some pillows, however, are shorter. They are either not with the same biasing force or are criticized by the head, which in turn leads to even better ventilation. Only in case of a fall - so in the case a load on the helmet - even the shorter cushions are fully loaded. In this context, it should be noted that the definition of the different heights with respect to the outer shell is to be understood so that the cushions have different heights when aligned horizontally.
- the support section preferably has a flat carrier layer and a top layer forming the cushions.
- at least the upper layer consists of an air-permeable material. Such a material is not only more pleasant and possibly even better on the user's head, it also ensures a further increase in ventilation.
- the top layer can be perforated.
- the top layer consists of a textile material. Here are natural or synthetic fibers conceivable. The top layer is sewn onto the backing layer, welded or glued.
- Protective helmets also regularly need to secure the helmet on the head of the helmet wearer a closure belt or the like.
- the closure strap is attached directly to the outer shell.
- An advantageous embodiment of the protective helmet is characterized in that the closure strap is fastened at the same locations where the inner layer and the functional and / or decorative layer are fastened. With only one fastening device such as a rivet, a screw or a push button, the entire Components of the helmet, including the fastening strap, on the outer shell and are thus fastened together.
- FIG. 1 shows a perspective view of an embodiment of the protective helmet according to the invention.
- the protective helmet has an outer shell 1.

- the reference numeral 4 denotes a closure belt, as it is known per se.
- the closure belt 4 is fastened directly to the outer shell 1, specifically in the illustrated embodiment via rivets 5. It should be noted at this point that instead of a riveted joint, in particular a releasable connection, for example a screw connection, comes into consideration.
- FIG. 2 shows the protective helmet FIG. 1 in an exploded view.
- the functional and / or decorative layer 3 is adapted to the inner shape of the outer shell. In the assembled state, the functional and / or decorative layer 3 is clearly visible through the openings 2.
- the type of functional and / or decorative layer can be adapted to different requirements. This applies not only to the type of material, but also to the color and decor, which have a significant impact on the overall look of the helmet.
- the functional and / or decorative layer 3 has two openings 6 on both sides. Through these openings and through openings 7 in the outer shell 1, the rivets 5 (or other fastening devices), which engage in FIG. 2 are shown only schematically.
- the functional and / or decorative layer 3 also has at least one positioning device 8.
- the positioning device 8 engages in the assembled state of the protective helmet in the outer shell 1, as in FIG. 1 is shown.
- the positioning device 8 preferably at least one leg 9 (in the illustrated embodiment, each 2 legs 9).
- the inner layer is essentially formed by a plurality of cushions 10. Respectively a plurality of cushions 10 are arranged on a carrier section 11, the carrier sections 11 being connected to each other for forming the inner layer.
- the support sections 11 have openings 12 through which the rivets 5 engage. With the rivets 5, consequently, the inner layer, the functional and / or decorative layer 3 and the Outer shell 1 are connected to each other.
- openings 13 are provided through which a respective fastening device 14 of the positioning device 8 engages. It is understood that the connection of the support sections can also be done otherwise.
- the support sections 11 need not necessarily be identical. They limit at least one free space 15 between them.
- the free space 15 ensures good ventilation of the protective helmet.
- FIG. 3 shows a part of the inner layer of the helmet according to the invention, namely the according to FIG. 2 Carefully abutting support portion 11 on which the pads 10 are arranged.
- a plurality of pads 10 are arranged on a support section 11.
- the support sections 11 are preferably web-like and can be prefabricated with the pad 10.
- the pads 10 have a part-spherical shape and are filled with beads.
- FIGS. 4 to 7 Reference is made, in which further embodiments of support portions are shown with a modified pillow shape.
- FIG. 4 shows a second embodiment of a support portion 16 of the invention.
- the support portion 16 has a plurality of pads 17. Between the pad 17 openings 18 are formed, which serve as air passages.
- the support portion 16 has Means 19 for connecting the support portion to another support portion (not shown).
- the means 19 are formed as openings through which a rivet, a screw, a knob (clips) or the like can engage and thus creates a positive connection with the other (not shown) support portion.
- FIG. 5 shows a side view of another embodiment of a support portion 20 of the invention.
- the support portion 20 has cushions 21, 22, which are formed pylonenstumpfartig.
