- the impingement points 12 to 15 of the tension belt 4 move on the pulleys 3, 6, the distance between the impingement points 12, 13 from the axis of rotation of the pulley 3 continuously increasing while the corresponding distance at the points of impact 14, 15 of the circular pulley 6 remains the same.
- the points of impact are located 12, 13 each at the intersection of a long axis L of the ellipse with the peripheral surface of the pulley 3, and the orientation of the door is the same as in the closed position.
- a prerequisite for the orientation of the door in the open and closed position being the same is that the path of the points of impact on both pulleys when opening and closing is the same.
- this corresponds to the requirement that the circumferential length of both pulleys 3, 6 must be the same.
- the door-side pulley 3 is elliptical and the column-side pulley 6 is circular

If the long axes L were not twisted, parallel to each other, the door 1 would not pivot when moving. A maximum swivel stroke is achieved when the long axes L of the two ellipses are oriented perpendicular to one another.
- FIGS. 4 and 5 show a third embodiment of a hinge device according to the invention on a door of a motor vehicle. Parts in these figures which are identical or functionally identical to parts shown in FIGS. 1-3 have the same reference numerals and will not be explained again in detail.
- the hinge device 20 here according to this third embodiment differs from those of FIGS. 2 and 3 by the angled shape of its arm 5.
- the pull strap 4 inside the arm is deflected on two rollers 21 by an angle of 90 °.
- the belt pulleys 3, 6 wrapped by the tension belt 4 are both elliptical, as in the embodiment of FIG. 3, and in the closed position of FIG.
- the points of impact 12, 13 of the belt on the belt pulley 3 are at the intersection points of their short Axis K with the circumference and the impact points 14, 15 of the pulley 6 at the intersection points of the long axis L with the circumference.

- the long axes L of both ellipses are parallel here. As already explained with reference to FIG. 2, it follows from the distances of the impingement points 12 to 15 from the axes of rotation of their pulleys 3, 6 that the door 1 initially pivots counterclockwise when opened.
- the pivoting movement changes its direction to the extent that the points of impact 12, 13 approach the point of intersection with the short axis K and the points of impact 14, 15 approach the point of intersection with the long axis L.
- the striking position which corresponds to a complete opening of the door 1
- the impingement points 12, 13 on the pulley 3 have already moved beyond the intersection points with the long axis or the impingement points 14, 15 on the pulley 6 beyond the intersection points with the short axis.
- the orientation of the door 1 in the open stop position is exactly parallel to the orientation in the closed position, because the dimensions of the two pulleys 3, 6 are chosen slightly different.
