- the trailing device has a piston that is operatively connected to the button, movable in a cylinder with a vent valve and an inflow opening, a reliable control of the required trailing of the cutting unit is achieved using incredibly simple mechanical means.
- the individual parts of the trailing device are preferably inexpensive to produce as plastic injection molded parts. Surprisingly, it has been shown that even if the manufacturing tolerances customary for molded parts are observed, a completely sufficient accuracy of the follow-up control can be achieved without problems.
- the button is designed as a pivoting lever which can be rotated about an axis and has a lever arm which is articulated on a piston rod of the piston arranged in the cylinder.
- This embodiment is characterized by a very simple, robust design.
- the cylinder is arranged approximately vertically and that the piston moves downward after the release of the button by the paper due to the weight of the moving parts of the trailing device.
- the arrangement of a compression spring for example, is unnecessary. This feature also contributes to the fact that the trailing device according to the invention can be manufactured extremely inexpensively.
- the inflow opening is designed as an inflow nozzle and is arranged in the cylinder on the seat of the vent valve.
- the arrangement of an inflow nozzle enables particularly precise metering of the inflowing air which enables the piston to move downward.

- Fig. 2 of the drawing it can be seen that, provided that paper 9 is inserted into the paper inlet shaft 1 of the document shredder 2, the button 6 is pivoted about its axis 5 to the right. The button 6 then moves the actuator 7 of the electrical switch 8 to the right, so that the cutting unit 4 of the document shredder is switched on. As soon as the paper 9 reaches the cutting unit 4, it is shredded so that the information present on the paper is destroyed.
- the dead weight of the system i.e. H. the weight of the piston 12, the piston rod 11, the lever arm 10 and the pivotable part of the button 6 effective.
- This weight can, since the inflow nozzle 18 is arranged on the seat 17 of the vent valve 16 and air can thus flow into the cylinder 14 in a metered manner, slowly pull the piston 12 downward.
- the button 6 is also slowly moved to the left into the paper inlet shaft 1 via the piston rod 11 and the lever arm 10.
- the cutting unit 4 remains switched on for as long as. H. it continues to shred the fed paper 9 until the button 6 has reached its left end position.
