Definitions
- the invention relates to a housing for an electromechanical component with a housing wall that seals off a hollow interior and has a ventilation opening that is open to the outside or prepared for opening.
- these are electromagnetic relays with a plastic housing or similar switching devices.
- Relays with a plastic housing are usually sealed using adhesive, casting resin or the like, so that the sensitive parts inside the housing, in particular the contacts, are protected against the harmful effects of washing solutions, soldering agents and the like.
- the tight closure of the housing can, however, be disadvantageous for the further service life of a relay or a similar component, since the plastic housing, the coil and other parts in the relay release contact-harmful precipitates over time, which produce a microclimate within the closed housing, which can be more harmful to the contacts than the normal outside air. It is therefore common practice to provide a ventilation opening in the housing, which, for example, only opens (again) after a relay has been installed. For example, it is known to pierce a prepared thin-walled section of a relay wall (DE-A-30 39 702) or to separate a cylindrical or rectangular slug on a housing corner (DE-U-87 03 079). But there is also the possibility to first cover an opening already formed in the housing with a film and to remove this film after washing and soldering the relay.
- the object of the invention is to design a housing for an electromechanical component with a ventilation opening so that even when installed in the vicinity of foreign metallic parts, the required insulating distances from the outside of the housing to the metallic or live parts inside the component can always be guaranteed .
- this object is achieved in that the ventilation opening in the interior of the housing opens into an insulation shaft which is separated from the metallic parts in the interior of the housing by an insulation wall extending from the housing wall and is open to the interior of the housing at least at its end opposite the ventilation opening.
- the insulation shielding of the ventilation opening in the interior of the housing By means of the insulation shielding of the ventilation opening in the interior of the housing according to the invention, the insulation distances required in each case can be ensured regardless of where the component is installed and which metallic or live parts are always in the vicinity.
- the insulation wall is expediently attached in such a way that, together with sections of side walls of the housing, it separates a corner region as an insulation shaft.
- the insulation wall may also be expedient for the insulation wall to extend in the form of a tube jacket from the ventilation opening into the interior of the housing, the tube cross section being circular, rectangular or any other shape.
- the insulation wall may also be expedient for the insulation wall to extend in the form of a tube jacket from the ventilation opening into the interior of the housing, the tube cross section being circular, rectangular or any other shape.
- unused cavities inside the housing can be used in order to accommodate the insulation shaft without increasing the volume of the housing.
- the ventilation opening and the insulation shaft should be placed as close as possible to the switch contacts, since ventilation is then most effective for the service life.
- the insulation wall is also expediently formed directly on the cap.
- FIG. 1 A partially cut-open relay housing is shown in FIG. 1, with a base 1 with two fixed contact elements 2 and 3 and a center contact spring 4 being shown only schematically in the interior.
- the contacts are actuated in a conventional manner without needing to be discussed with regard to the invention.
- the base 1 forms, together with a cap 5, the relay housing, which is additionally sealed on the underside with casting compound 14.
- the top wall 5a is provided at one corner with a shoulder 5b on which a detachable pin or slug 7, also known as a “nip-off pin”, is seated.
- a detachable pin or slug 7 also known as a “nip-off pin”
- a channel extends from the inside of the housing, which forms the ventilation opening 6 after the slug has been separated.
- FIG. 1 also schematically shows a printed circuit board 8 arranged above the relay housing, in which a voltage-carrying connecting pin 9 can, for example, come to rest on the ventilation opening 6 of the relay housing.
- a voltage-carrying connecting pin 9 can, for example, come to rest on the ventilation opening 6 of the relay housing.
- the air gap or insulation gap 10 shown in dotted lines in FIG. 1, between the pin 9 and the contact elements 2 and 3 in the interior of the relay is sufficiently long to ensure the necessary security against an electrical flashover.
- This air gap is ensured by an insulation shaft 11 being formed by an additional insulation wall 12 in the interior of the housing following the ventilation opening 6.
- the insulation shaft 11 can also be limited to the corner in that the insulation wall 12, with a small portion of the side walls 5c and 5d of the housing cap, separates a small volume of the interior of the housing.
- the position of this insulation wall 12 is shown in FIG. 2 in a plan view of the housing, the slug 7 being separated and exposing the ventilation opening 6.
- FIG. 3 A further development is shown in FIG. 3 in that, in addition to the insulation wall 12 molded onto the cap 5, a further partition 13 is attached to the base 1.
- the overlap between the insulation wall 12 and the partition wall 13 results in a further extension of the insulation path 10 due to the labyrinth effect.
- FIG 4 Another embodiment is shown in FIG 4, where only a housing cap is shown in section.
- the cap 15 has a weakened section 16 somewhere in the middle region of the upper side, which is pierced in order to obtain the desired ventilation opening.
- an insulation shaft 17 is formed in the form of a tube, so that the insulation wall 18 forms the tube jacket in this case. The position of this tubular insulation shaft 17 depends on the available spatial conditions in the interior of the component.
Abstract
