- Hydraulic cylinders which are arranged transversely in the area of both ends of the ship and which, like their piston rods, engage on the two foldable parts of the ship via joints are commonly used to open and close folding barges, especially those of a larger type. Accordingly, these cylinders must be fed via articulated pipe connections or hose lines. This, as well as the seals inside the cylinder, can lead to leaks, which means that there is a risk that the bulkhead will open unintentionally, even if only by a small amount, and lose the load in the form of a bulk material.
