Definitions

  • the invention relates to a step stool, which consists of a riser, in which treads are articulated in pivot axes, which are articulated by at least one guide strut, and a support leg articulated on the riser, on which at least one of the treads is articulated by means of a guide axis.
  • step stools are known from the applicant's German utility models DE-U-81 21 831 and DE-U-81 21 830.
  • Such a generic step stool is disclosed in particular in the last-mentioned utility model DE-U-81 21 830.
  • the upper support bars of the support leg protrude above the articulation points thereof on the riser; the ends of these upper support bars hold a guide axis which is slidably mounted in a slide bearing of the upper tread. If such a step stool is unfolded, this guide axis is moved in the slide bearing up to the stop on the front edge of the upper step surface. Then the upper tread is approximately horizontal, as is the lower tread, which is held in a position corresponding to the parallelogram by the guide struts.
  • the guide axis in the slide bearing of the upper tread is pushed back to the upper pivot axis of the upper tread.
  • the upper tread surface between the riser and the support leg can pivot down about the upper pivot axis, so that it comes to lie parallel to the riser and the support leg, the support leg then also lying parallel to the riser.
  • the lower tread is moved accordingly by the guide struts.
  • the slide bearing is susceptible to wear and especially when operated by children of such a step stool with slide bearing slots there is a risk that these fingers get caught in it.
  • the present invention has for its object to provide a step stool of the generic type, which does not fold in the unfolded state by itself when lifting or under uneven loading; in addition, plain bearings should no longer be used if possible because of the aforementioned disadvantages.
  • a pawl is rotatably arranged on at least one oscillation axis and has a special angular elongated hole. In this angular elongated hole, the swivel axis belonging to the same lies in the folded-out position of the step surface for locking.
  • the angular elongated hole is called an angular elongated hole, since it has the shape of an ordinary elongated hole, but which has an angled additional elongated hole at one end.
  • the angle of the elongated hole lies at the end of the pawl opposite the guide axis.
  • the guide axis comes to rest in the angular hole of the angular elongated hole and is locked there, as it were.
  • the distance between the guide axis and the oscillation axis is rigidly held in the pawl in this state.
  • the step stool according to the invention since when the step stool according to the invention is folded, the oscillating axis inevitably moves towards the guide axis, the step stool collapsing when the guide axis is locked. Thus, a secure locking is created so that the stool does not collapse by itself when lifting on the riser or under uneven loading, especially on the foremost parts of the treads. But if you want to fold the stool, you only have to lift the pawl a little so that the guide axis gets out of the angled hole into the actual elongated hole. Now the pawl can move freely in the elongated hole in accordance with the movement of the swing axis when folded on the guide axis; So the swing axis can move towards the guide axis.
  • step stool in other step stools, it is expedient to distribute the load as far as possible on both sides. This can also be achieved by providing one of the pawls according to the invention on each side of the step stool. However, this is not so practical since the user then needs both hands when operating the stool to operate the pawls.
  • hinge arms have stop surfaces projecting beyond the swing axes to the upper support spars for abutment against the upper support spars when the tread surface is unfolded.
  • stop surfaces When loaded, these stop surfaces then absorb compressive forces which they transmit to the upper support bars. These stop surfaces thus prevent the hinge arms from folding over beyond the upper support spars further than desired. This also relieves the pawl, so that you can use an ordinary, thin, punched sheet for the pawl. Because the pawl only has the function of keeping the step stool in the unfolded state, where only low forces occur.
  • the step stool is first formed by the riser 1.
  • the riser 1 has the uprights 2 running on both sides; these risers 2 are divided by the central axes 6 into the upper risers 2a and the lower risers 2b.
  • the central axes 6 serve to articulate the support leg 11.
  • the support leg 11 is itself also formed by the support bars.
  • the support bars are again divided by the central axes 6 into the upper support bars 11b and the lower support bars 11a.
  • a step stool with two step surfaces 4 and 5 is shown.
  • the upper step surface 4 is articulated in a known manner via the pivot axis 13 in the uprights 2 of the rise leg 1.
  • the lower step surface 5 is articulated in the risers via the lower pivot axis 16.
  • the upper tread 4 and the lower tread 5 are steered by the guide struts 15 with the upper tread 4.
  • these guide struts 15 are articulated on the treads in the region of the front edge of the treads.
  • the treads have flanged edges, that is to say sections flanged downwards.
  • 4a is the flanged edge of the upper tread
  • 5a is the flanged edge of the lower tread.
  • Such treads are usually made of sheet metal, the edge of which can easily be flanged downwards. This edge then serves with corresponding bores for articulating or mounting the axles and guide struts.
  • the lower tread surface 5 is supported by the lower pivot axis 16 in the risers as well as the upper tread surface 4 in the upper pivot axis 13.
  • the upper support beam 11 b is not rigidly implemented; instead, it is cranked prematurely and a separate hinge arm 8 is placed on it.
  • This hinge arm 8 has an approximately U-shaped profile, in the recess of which the upper support bar 11b fits.
  • the upper support beam 11b supports this hinge arm 8 at its end in the oscillation axis 3.
  • the hinge arm 8 can thus rotate about this oscillation axis 3 toward the lower tread surface 5.
  • the guide axis 7 for the upper step surface 4 is mounted.
  • the guide axis 7 is mounted in the flange 4a of the upper tread. Of course, it is not absolutely necessary for this guide axis 7 to be continuous; short pieces of guide axis up to the flange edge 4a of the upper tread on both sides of the hinge arms 8 are also sufficient. The same applies to the swivel axes.
  • a pawl 9 according to the invention is now arranged on one oscillation axis 3. In the figure shown, however, it is largely covered by the upper step surface 4. Nevertheless, the angular elongated hole 14 can be clearly seen, in the angular hole 17 of which the upper pivot axis 13 is engaged in the unfolded state.
  • the pawl 9 is mounted on the swing axis 3 and has a pawl nose 10 at the free end, on which it can be easily operated. As shown, the angled hole 17 is located at one end of the angled longitudinal hole, which is located away from the central axis 6.
  • FIG. 2 the function of the hinge arm 8 and the pawl 9 can now be seen particularly clearly from the side in the direction of view A.
  • the step stool is shown here in an incompletely unfolded state. Therefore, the upper pivot axis 13 has not yet reached the angular hole 17 of the angular elongated hole 14 in the pawl 9 and has therefore not yet snapped into place there. Accordingly, the stop surface 18 does not yet rest on the end of the hinge arm 8 adjacent to the upper support beam 11b on this upper support beam 11b. If one were to fold out this step stool completely, as shown, the following movements would result: The support bar 11b moves in the direction of the lower climbing beam 2b, ie away from the upper climbing beam 2a.
  • FIG. 3 shows the rear view of the detail according to FIG. 2, that is to say from viewing direction B in FIG. 1.
  • the step stool is shown in its fully folded state. Accordingly, the upper tread surface 4 is flush with the riser and the support leg or the corresponding spars.
  • the pawl 9 is articulated on the oscillation axis 3 and lies above the upper pivot axis 13;
  • the oblong slot 14 is of course not shown in this perspective. Only the latch nose 11 can still be distinguished.
  • the swing axis 3 also passes through the hinge arm 8 and the end of the upper support beam 11b.
  • This central axis 6 is spaced between the lower support beam 11a and the lower climbing beam 2b by a conventional spacer sleeve 19 on this central axis 6.
  • the flanged edge 4a of the upper tread 4 is shown in this figure only as an ordinary line. This flanged edge 4a is drilled through for mounting the upper pivot axis 13 and the guide axis 7.
  • the inside of the upper riser 2a is drilled for receiving and articulating the upper pivot axis 13; the same applies to the central axis 6.
  • the guide strut 15 is also articulated in a known manner in the flange 4a in a suitable bore, as can be clearly seen in FIG.
