Definitions

  • the invention relates to a device for applying a glue strip running transversely to the direction of web travel on a material web, in particular as part of a device for producing folding products consisting of a plurality of sheets to be connected, with a circumferential glue cylinder and a glue transfer device running transversely to the web running direction this associated counter-organ.
  • the glue cylinder consists of two arms arranged on a driven shaft, each of which is provided with an application bar at its radially outer end. Glue is applied to these by means of a scoop roller immersed in a glue container. A deflection roller, around which the material web runs, serves as the counter roller. Arrangements of this type are only suitable for relatively low web speeds. At high web speeds, a high speed of rotation of the glue cylinder is required, so that spraying off of the glue from the open rotating application strips is to be feared. Quite apart from this, only a very wide strip of glue can be transferred with application strips of the type in question here.
  • the invention is therefore based on the object, while avoiding the disadvantages of the known arrangements, to provide a device of the type mentioned which works reliably even at high web speeds of the order of magnitude customary in the production of folded products and enables the transfer of precisely definable strips of glue to the material web without fear of splashing the glue or contamination by paper dust or the like and which therefore in particular enables a clampless connection of the individual sheets of folded products to be connected to one another.
  • the circumference which is provided with at least one glue receiving recess and can be acted upon with glue, cooperates with a doctor device and with its doctored area with respect to the material web guided past it It is at least partially uncovered that the sum of the peripheral speeds of the glue cylinder running at a predetermined rate by the distance between the glue strips to be applied and the applicator roller that can be driven relative thereto corresponds to the web speed and that the counter-holding member is designed as a bar arranged on a driven shaft and parallel to the applicator roller.
  • the rotation of the applicator roller ensures that the emptied glue receiving recesses can be easily loaded anew.
  • the doctoring of the application roller not only results in an exact filling of the glue receiving recesses, but at the same time leads to a practically bare application roller surface, so that can deposit practically no paper dust here, which is extremely easy to maintain.
  • the clampless connection of the single sheets of folding products made possible with the measures according to the invention makes the previously used stapling devices unnecessary, which can simplify the construction and the space requirement of folding devices.
  • the one-sided thickening which is often perceived as disadvantageous and is caused by the staples, is eliminated, which facilitates stack formation and packaging.
  • the applicator roller can be rotatably received in an associated receiving recess of the glue cylinder, which is arranged close to the circumference and interrupts the circumference of the glue cylinder in the form of a longitudinal slot.
  • a further advantageous measure can consist in the fact that the glue receiving recess or recesses is designed as an axially parallel longitudinal groove which is closed at the edge and is in any case shorter than the narrowest processable web width. This ensures that no change of the gluing device according to the invention is required when changing the web width.
  • a continuous or interrupted glue strip also ensures that sheets cut from a wide web are held together.
  • a further preferred development of the superordinate measures can consist in the fact that the doctor device has a doctor shoe which is received in a radially movable manner in an associated guide recess of the glue cylinder and which bears against a peripheral section of the applicator roller and which is provided on the applicator roller side with at least one glue store delimited by a circumferential scraper edge can be connected to a glue supply device.
  • These measures ensure that the jacket surface is properly scraped off in every direction of rotation of the application roller.
  • the squeegee shoe can expediently be pressed against the circumference of the application roller. This can advantageously be done using compressed air, which enables the contact pressure to be set during operation.
  • a further advantageous embodiment of the superordinate measures can consist in the fact that the cam-shaped bar of the counter-holding element, which rotates in time with the glue cylinder, on the application roller side has a pressure pad consisting of soft, elastic material, the peripheral speed of which corresponds to the web speed.
  • a pair of drawing rollers 1 is provided, which feeds a material web 2 to a cross-cutting device, designated as a whole by 3, which divides the material web 2 into sheet-like products.
  • the cross-cutting device 3 consists of a cutting cylinder 4 provided with a knife, not shown here, which interacts with a counter cylinder 5 provided with cutting grooves, punctures and folding knives, the folding knife, not shown, of the web sections held at their front end by assigned punctures Transfer generation of a transverse fold to folding flaps arranged on a downstream cylinder 6, also not shown in more detail.
  • the cylinder 6 provided with folding flaps can cooperate with a band guide, not shown, leading to a paddle wheel or the like.
  • a two-strand material web is required to produce an eight-sided folded product.
  • the material web 2 should therefore consist of two superimposed strands 2a and 2b in the illustrated embodiment.
  • a gluing device designated as a whole by 7, is arranged upstream of the cross-cutting device 3 and the pair of pulling rolls 1, which has one strand, here the strand 2a, of the material web 2 on its inside, ie on the adjacent one beard strand facing side, provided with transversely extending strips of glue which, after appropriate curing, ensure cohesion of the arcuate products produced in the cross-cutting device 3.
  • the gluing device 7 works in register with the folding knives of the cylinder 5, ie the glue strips are applied to the relevant strand 2a of the material web 2 at which the transverse fold will later take place.
  • the glue used can advantageously be a cold-curing dispersion glue, which only requires comparatively short curing times and is short-fiber, which facilitates the transfer.
  • a strand it is sufficient for a strand to be provided with glue strips in the case of a two-strand material web.
  • the other strand, in FIG. 1 strand 2b, is simply deflected so that when the two strands 2a and 2b converge, there is 1 register stability in the area of the pair of draw rollers.
  • the path of the two strands 2a and 2b must therefore either be the same or can differ by exactly one or more section lengths that can be produced with the cross-cutting device 3.
  • two deflection rollers 8 and 9 are provided for deflecting the strand 2b, through which the strand 2b is guided around the adjacent elements of the gluing device 7.
  • the deflection roller 8 can be adjustably mounted to set the desired register accuracy.
  • the gluing device 7 consists of a glue cylinder 11 provided here with a built-in applicator roller 10 and a counter-holding element 12 opposite it.
  • the material web is passed between the glue cylinder 11 and the associated counter-holding element 12.
  • the glue cylinder 11, as can best be seen from FIG. 2, is provided for receiving the application roller 10 with an axially parallel bore forming a receiving recess 13, the diameter of which corresponds to the diameter of the application roller 10, which is rotatably received therein.
  • the bore forming the receiving recess 13 is covered in the region of the end faces of the glue cylinder 11 by bearing plates 14 indicated in FIG. 1, on which the application roller 10, which is designed here as a continuous roller, can be supported by bearings 15.
  • the receiving recess 13 is arranged close to the circumference such that its outer contour slightly overlaps with the outer contour of the glue cylinder 11, so that there is an interruption in the outer contour of the glue cylinder 11 through a longitudinal slot 16.
  • the glue cylinder 11 makes an integer revolution with respect to the product length generated by the cross cutting device 3, i. H. when passing through a section length, the glue cylinder 11 is rotated or a whole multiple thereof.
  • the applicator roller 10 installed in the glue cylinder 11 can be driven relative to this.
  • an additional gear arranged in the area of the cover plates 14, preferably designed as a planetary gear, not shown here, should be provided, via which the application roller 10 is drivingly coupled to the glue cylinder 11, which is provided with a lateral spur gear drive, in such a way that the sum of the Circumferential speeds on the periphery of the glue cylinder 11 corresponds to the web speed.
  • the application roller 10 can run in the same direction or in the opposite direction.
  • the glue cylinder 11 can therefore be dimensioned regardless of the cylinder circumference.
  • the applicator roller 10 is provided with at least one glue receiving recess 17 provided on the circumferential side, which is filled with glue with each revolution of the applicator roller 10 and is exposed to the glue when it passes through the gap 16.
  • the counter-holding element 12 provided for this purpose consists of a driven shaft 18, on which a pressure roller 19, an application roller or glue receiving recess parallel, is placed in a cam shape.
  • the pressure bar 19 is provided on the application roller side with a rubber strip forming a soft, elastic pressure pad 20, which can be clamped or glued into an associated recess.
  • the counterhold makes one revolution when passing through a section length.
  • the peripheral speed in the region of the radially outer edge of the pressure pad 20 corresponds to the web speed.
  • the effective diameter and the speed of the counter-holding element 7 therefore correspond to the effective diameter and the speed of the cutting cylinder 4, which is also to make one revolution per section length.
  • the shaft 18 of the counter-holding member 12 and the glue cylinder 11 are coupled to one another in terms of drive, for example by spur gears or the like, so that the pressure pad 20 and in each case one glue receiving recess 17 interact when a transverse fold point passes through.
  • the web material pressed against the application roller 10 by the pressure pad 20 practically automatically fetches out the glue present in the glue receiving recess 17 opposite the pressure pad 20.
  • the short-fiber nature of dispersion glue makes the transfer easier.
  • the application roller 10 is provided with a plurality of glue receiving recesses 17 distributed uniformly over its circumference. The number and the division depends on the required relative speed of the application roller 10 with respect to the glue cylinder 11. In the illustrated embodiment, the peripheral speed of the glue cylinder 11 should be approximately 9/10 of the web speed. The remaining 1/10 to achieve the full Bahnge Speed is accomplished here by the relative movement of the applicator roller 10 with respect to the glue cylinder 1.
  • the applicator roller 10 is therefore provided in the illustrated embodiment with 10 according to a division of ten evenly distributed on the circumference glue receiving recesses 17. With each revolution of the glue cylinder 11, the next glue receiving recess 17 enters the area of the longitudinal gap 16.
  • the glue receiving recesses 17 can be designed as axially parallel longitudinal grooves which are delimited by a closed peripheral edge and which are cut into the circumference of the application roller 10.
  • the glue strips to be transferred to the strand 2a are to be designed as continuous strips.
  • the grooves forming the glue receiving recesses 17 are therefore designed as grooves extending almost over the entire length of the applicator roller 10. The clear width and depth of these grooves determine the width and thickness of the glue strip to be transferred.
  • the length of the grooves forming the glue receiving recesses 17 is chosen to be somewhat smaller than the smallest web width to be processed, so that even when this web width is processed, gluing is ensured over the entire length of the groove without a machine changeover being necessary.
  • the application roller 10 designed here as a continuous roller is provided with lateral bearing pins 21 which engage in the lateral bearings 15 and accommodate an associated drive element.
  • the length of the glue cylinder 11 arranged transversely to the web running direction corresponds approximately to the total length of the application roller 10 including the bearing journal 21.
  • a continuous application roller several short application rollers arranged next to one another could also be used. It would also be conceivable to interrupt the glue receiving recesses 17 one or more times over the length of the assigned applicator roller 10.
  • a glue store 22 is provided approximately diametrically opposite the longitudinal slot 16, which is closed on the one hand by an installation part provided in the glue cylinder 11 and on the other hand by the application roller 10.
  • the glue receiving recesses 17 provided on the circumference of the applicator roller 10 pass through the glue store 22 as a result of the rotation of the applicator roller 10 and thereby absorb glue.
  • the remaining surface of the applicator roller 10 is scraped off, so that the areas between the glue receiving recesses 17 are bare. This prevents contamination from settling in these areas. But also the glue receiving recesses 17 filled with glue are only released when they enter the longitudinal gap 16.
  • the applicator roller 10 is practically in full contact with the wall of the associated receiving recess 13.
  • glue cannot be sprayed here.
  • the built-in part containing the glue store 22 is designed as a squeegee shoe 23, which is received in a guide recess 24 in the glue cylinder 11 so as to be radially movable with respect to the applicator roller 10.
  • the guide recess 24 practically opens into the receiving recess 13 assigned to the applicator roller 10.
  • the doctor blade shoe 23 is formed by a bar which extends practically over the length of the application roller 10 and whose surface on the application roller side is curved with a radius corresponding to the application roller 10.
  • the curved surface of the squeegee shoe 23 is pressed against the application roller 10.
  • pressure springs 25 are provided for this purpose, which are supported on a bar 26 covering the guide recess 24.
  • the pressure medium could be supplied via a central feed in the glue cylinder 11.
  • the glue store 22 is delimited by a circumferential scraper edge 27. This ensures that the glue receiving recesses 17 are reliably filled and the other surface areas of the applicator roller 10 are kept bare.
  • the circumferential scraper edge 27 also advantageously prevents the squeegee shoe 23 from sinking into the glue receiving recesses 17.
  • the mutually engaging surfaces of applicator roller 10 and squeegee shoe 23 are smooth to avoid wear. At least one of these surfaces can advantageously be equipped with emergency running properties.
  • the surface of the application roller 10 should be chrome-plated.
  • the surface of the doctor blade shoe 23 assigned to this should have a tetrafluoroethylene cover.
  • the glue store 22 can be designed as a one-piece depression.
  • a plurality of grooves 28 arranged next to one another are provided, which here are angled in a V-shape in the running direction with respect to the intended running direction of the application roller 10.
  • a transverse bore 31 is provided, the input of which Cross-section, as best shown in FIG. 2, is at least partially in alignment with the output cross-section of a line system 32 provided on the glue cylinder side and formed by bores.
  • the line system 32 which can be formed in the area of the glue cylinder 11 through bores, leads via a rotary connection arranged coaxially in the area of a glue cylinder end face to a glue source (not shown here) which is designed as a pump located on a glue tank.
  • a glue source not shown here
  • doctor blades formed by a sheet metal could also be used.
