Definitions

  • the invention relates to a device according to the preamble of claim 1.
  • DE-B-27 31 799 discloses a melting and application device of the type mentioned at the outset in connection with an edge banding machine, in which, however, the hot-melt adhesive is only removed from the upper area of the feed channel when the adhesive is removed briefly. A dormant hotmelt adhesive layer is thus formed in the lower region, the adhesive properties of which are greatly impaired by the continuous action of heat. Defective hotmelt adhesive can also get into the application device from this area and influence the adhesive strength between the workpiece and the edge band. It is also not guaranteed that the hot melt temperature can be optimally adjusted to the different hot melt types.
  • Another known melting and application device is a device for high melting performance, in which the liquid hot melt adhesive is conveyed by a separate gear pump. If no hot melt adhesive is removed via the application devices, the excess hot melt adhesive is returned by the continuously running pump. As a result, the hot melt adhesive is naturally subject to constant heating and its adhesive strength is impaired. This hot melt adhesive is also exposed in its storage chamber to the atmospheric ambient air, so that there is a risk of decomposition by oxidation.
  • This known device also has a complicated structure and large dimensions, so that it is not suitable for attachment to an edge banding machine and for the frequently changing removal of liquid hotmelt adhesive.
  • the invention is therefore based on the object of providing a melting and application device of the type mentioned at the beginning for melt adhesives, in which a continuous and complete removal of the melted hot melt adhesive is ensured and which permits the highest possible amount of melting. This object is achieved by the features specified in the characterizing part of claim 1.
  • the forced inflow of the hot melt adhesive in the lower area of the feed channel ensures that the hot melt adhesive is not only removed from the upper area, but that the entire amount of the melted hot melt adhesive reaches the application device. This ensures that only flawless hot melt adhesive is available.
  • the arrangement of the temperature sensor also in the lower area ensures reliable temperature control for the different types of hot melt.
  • the temperature sensor is always flushed around by the flowing hot melt adhesive and is influenced both by its temperature and by the temperature of the melting wall or an advantageously used melt insert.
  • a control characteristic curve for the melting temperature of the melting wall is thus automatically formed from these two temperature values.
  • a material with high thermal conductivity such as. B. uses a light metal alloy, then the heat of the heater is communicated to the hot melt adhesive particularly quickly. This has a particularly favorable effect when commissioning the edge banding machine, since the heating-up time for the melt application is very short until the edge banding machine starts.
  • the application device it is possible to manufacture the application device from a metallic material of high strength and thus to achieve a long service life for this application device.
  • these high strength metallic materials are poor heat conductors, their use as a melt insert would significantly increase the times for heating and cooling.
  • the use of different materials for the application device and for the melt insert therefore advantageously corresponds to both the mechanical and the thermal requirements of the entire device.
  • FIG. 1 shows an application device 1 as it is used for applying liquid hot-melt adhesive in an edge banding machine, not shown, to the narrow side surface of a plate-shaped workpiece.
  • a wedge-shaped nozzle body 2 is provided with application bores 3, which open into a feed channel 4 (see also FIG. 2).
  • the application of the hot melt adhesive is controlled in a known manner by means of a rotary slide valve 5, the nozzle body 2 is heated by a heating element 6, the temperature of which is controlled by a temperature sensor 7.
  • a melting device 8 is connected to the application device 1 (FIG. 2), which essentially has a melting chamber 9 and a melting insert 10. This closes the melting chamber 9 with its melting wall 11, against which the hot-melt adhesive unit 13 is pressed by means of a delivery piston 12.
  • the cylindrical melting insert 10 is with screws 14 on the nozzle body 2 of the order direction 1 attached (Fig. 1 and 3).
  • the melting wall 11 facing the melting chamber 9 is formed by melting pins 15 (see also FIG. 4) which are distributed uniformly and symmetrically over the cross section of the melting insert 10.
  • the melting insert 10 is curved so concavely that a storage chamber 16 is formed.
  • This storage chamber 16 is divided in the middle by vertical webs 17 which begin at the upper edge of the storage chamber 16 and end at a certain distance from the lower edge of the storage chamber.
  • a temperature sensor 19 is conductively connected.
  • This temperature sensor 19 influences heating elements 20 which are used to heat the melting insert 10. Since this is made of a light metal alloy, the heat of the heating elements 20 is quickly passed on to the melting wall 11.
  • the melting insert 10 is penetrated by vertical channels 21, which partially extend into the melting pins 15. They thus connect the melting chamber 9 to the storage chamber 16.
  • the hot melt adhesive is applied via a wedge-shaped nozzle body.
  • this application can also be carried out by means of a glue roller, to which the hot-melt adhesive, as described, is fed via the feed channel 4.
  • the melting device according to the invention together with known application guns for hot melt adhesives, such as are used in particular in the manufacture of furniture.
