- organic liquids in particular alcohols
- solvents for many electrochemical syntheses of organic compounds, organic liquids, in particular alcohols, are required as solvents for the starting products or for the process product.
- compounds In order to achieve the conductivity required for electrolysis, compounds must be added to the liquids which give the liquid the required conductivity.
- the compounds used for this purpose which are usually salts, must also be stable under the reaction conditions.
- Quaternary aryl-alkylammonium salts, quaternary tetraalkylammonium salts and ammonium salts of primary, secondary or tertiary amines are converted in the presence of alkaline compounds to ammonium bases or to the free amines and alkali metal salts, which can interfere with the electrochemical process, e.g. by side reactions of the free amines.
- Alkali metal or alkaline earth metal salts of arylsulfonic, arylcarboxylic acids, alkylsulfonic acids and alkylcarboxylic acids are often poorly soluble in the organic liquids used, so that adequate conductivity is not achieved.
- Alkali and alkaline earth metal salts of carboxylic acids can also be partially broken down by decarboxylation.
- Soluble sulfides, cyanides and rhodanides are not sufficiently stable during electrolysis because they are anodically oxidized (decomposition).
- soluble chlorides such as lithium Chlorine, among other things, cause corrosion problems and chlorination can occur at the anode in undivided cells.
- the chlorates and perchlorates which are stable under the electrolysis conditions, represent a safety risk in organic media.

Abstract
Description
- a) C3- bis C18-Alkansulfonsäuren und C2- bis C18-Alken- sulfonsäuren: Propan-, Butan-, Pentan-, Hexan-, Octan-, Decan-, Dodecan-, Tetradecan-, Hexadecan- und Octadecansulfonsäuren; Vinylsulfonsäure, Propensulfonsäure und α-Olefinsulfonsäuren, die durch Sulfonierung von z.B. C10-/C14, C11/C14- oder C15/C18-Olefingemischen erhalten werden;
- b) 2-Hydroxy-C2- bis C8-alkansulfonsäure, die gegebenenfalls noch weiter substituiert sein können: 2-Hydroxy- äthansulfonsäure, 2-Hydroxypropensulfonsäure, 2-Hydroxybutansulfonsäure, 2-Hydroxy-2-phenyl-äthansulfonsäure, 2-Hydroxy-2-cyclohexyläthansulfonsäure;
- c) durch Fluor substituierte C6- bis C10-Alkansulfonsäure, die durch elektrochemische Fluorierung der entsprechenden Sulfonsäuren erhalten werden, wobei ein Teil bis alle Wasserstoffatome durch Fluor substituiert sein können: Perfluorhexansulfonsäure, Perfluorheptansulfonsäure, Perfluoroctansulfonsäure, Perfluornonansulfonsäure;
- d) C1- bis C18-Alkylphenylsulfonsäuren: o- und p-Toluolsulfonsäure, o- und p-Äthylbenzolsulfonsäure, p-Isopropylbenzolsulfonsäure, p-Butylbenzolsulfonsäuren, Hexylbenzolsulfonsäure, Octylbenzolsulfonsäure, Decylbenzolsulfonsäure, Dodecylbenzolsulfonsäure, Tetradecylbenzolsulfonsäure, Hexadecylbenzolsulfonsäure, Octadecylbenzolsulfonsäure;
- e) Mono- und Dicarbonsäuren: Ameisensäure, Essigsäure, Propionsäure, Acrylsäure, Methacrylsäure, Crotonsäure, Buttersäure, Valeriansäure, Capronsäure, Önanthsäure, Caprylsäure, 2-Äthylhexansäure, Pelargonsäure, Caprinsäure, Laurinsäure, Myristinsäure, Palmitinsäure, Stearinsäure, ölsäure, Bernsteinsäure, Fumarsäure, Maleinsäure, Glutarsäure, Adipinsäure und Korksäure;
