Description
Photopolymerisierbare organische Zusammensetzungen und
darin verwendete Diaryljodoniumsalze
Die Erfindung bezieht sich auf Arylketon-haltige Jodoniumsalze, Verfahren zu ihrer Herstellung und ihre Verwendung als
Photoinitiatoren in photopolymerisierbaren organischen Materialien.
Bisher wurden, wie von Smith in der US-PS 4 378 277 gezeigt, Diaryljodoniumsalze, wie Diphenyljodonium-hexafluorarsenat,
als Photoinitiatoren für die kationische Polymerisation von Epoxidharzen verwendet. Obgleich die vorerwähnten Diaryljodcniumsalze
bei der Umwandlung von Epoxidharzen in den klebfreien Zustand in relativ kurzer Zeit wirksam waren, war es
oft schwierig, ein gehärtetes Epoxidharzerzeugnis mit einer befriedigenden Dicke zu erzielen, weil der gehärtete Film oft
als Sperre für das zum Aktivieren des Diaryljodoniumsalzes er forderliche ultraviolette Licht wirkte. Eine Verbesserung der
Dicke der Härtung wurde durch Verwendung bestimmter Arylsulfoniumsalze
erzielt, wie von Smith in der US-PS 4 173 476
gezeigt. Es wäre wünschenswert, mit UV-polymerisierbaren organischen Materialien unter Verwendung von Diaryljodoniumsalzen bei speziellen Anwendungen tiefer gehende Härtungen zu er zielen.

Die vorliegende Erfindung beruht auf der Feststellung, daß

ein Gegenion ist, bei einer großen Vielfalt von photopolymerisierbaren organischen Materialien, wie Epoxidharzen, dazu verwendet werden können, tiefgreifend photopolymerisierbare organische Materialien herzustellen. Die Arylketon-haltigen Diaryljodoniumsalze der Formel (1) können durch eine einfache Umsetzung zwischen einer DiaryIjodoniumtosylat-Vorstufe und einer geeigneten Gegenionenquelle, wie ein Hexafluormetall- oder -metalloid-Salz, hergestellt werden. Die Diaryljodoniumtosylatsalz-Vorstufe kann durch direkte Kondensation eines Aryljodosotosylats mit einem aromatischen Keton
gemäß folgender Gleichung hergestellt werden, worin Tos

Die Diaryljodoniumtosylatsalz-Vorstufe kann durch direkte Kondensation eines Aryljodosotosylats mit einem aromatischen Keton
gemäß folgender Gleichung hergestellt werden, worin Tos

kann die Umwandlung der Arylketon-haltigen Aryljodoniumtosylate in Arylketon-haltige Aryljodoniumsalze der Formel
(1) durch einfache Umsetzung erfolgen, wie nachfolgend

Erfindungsgemäß werden tiefgreifend photopolymerisierbare organische
HarzZusammensetzungen mit
(A) 100 Teilen eines photopolymerisierbaren organischen Materials und
(B) einer wirksamen Menge Arylketon-haltigen Jodoniumphotoinitiators
der Formel (1)
zur Verfügung gestellt.
Reste R der Formel (1) sind beispielsweise aromatische Cg-~-
Kohlenwasserstoffreste, wie Phenyl, Tolyl, Naphthyl, Anthryl,
und solche Reste, die mit 1 bis 4 einwertigen Resten, wie
C, „-Alkoxy, C, g-Alkyl, Nitro, Chlor, Hydroxy usw., substituiert sind; Arylacylreste, wie Benzyl, Phenylacyl usw.;
aromatische heterocyclische Reste, wie Pyridyl, Furfuryl usw.

Zu den Arylketon-haltigen Jodoniumsalzen der Formel (1) gehören

Der Ausdruck "Epoxidharz", wie er bei der Beschreibung der
erfindungsgemäßen photopolymerisierbaren Zusammensetzungen verwendet wird, umfaßt jedes monomere, dimere oder oligomere
oder polymere Epoxidmaterial mit einer oder einer Vielzahl von funktionellen Epoxygruppen. Beispielsweise solche Harze,
die aus der Reaktion von Bisphenol-A (4,4'-Isopropylidendiphenol)
und Epichlorhydrin oder aus der Umsetzung eines niedermolekularen Phenol-Formaldehyd-Harzes (Novolakharz) mit
Epichlorhydrin stammen, können alleine oder in Kombination
mit einer epoxidhaltigen Verbindung als reaktivem Verdünner
verwendet werden. Solche Verdünner,wie Phenylglycidylether,
4-Vinylcyclohexendioxid, Limonendioxid, 1,2-Cyclohexenoxid,
Glycidylacrylat, Glycidylmethacrylat, Styroloxid, Allylglycidylether
usw., können als die Viskosität modifizierende Mittel zugesetzt werden.
Zudem kann der Bereich dieser Verbindungen so ausgeweitet werden, daß er polymere Materialien mit endständigen oder anhängenden
Epoxidgruppen einschließt. Beispiele für diese Verbindungen sind Vinylcopolymere, die Glycidylacrylat oder
-methacrylat als eines der Comonomeren enthalten. Weitere Klassen epoxidhaltiger Polymerer, die der Härtung unter Verwendung
der obigen Katalysatoren zuführbar sind, sind Epoxysiloxan-Harze,
Epoxypolyurethane und Epoxypolyester. Solche Polymere haben gewöhnlich funktionelle Epoxidgruppen an ihren
Kettenenden. Epoxysiloxanharze und Verfahren zu ihrer Herstellung zeigen E. P. Pluedemann und G. Fanger, J. Am. Chem. Soc.
80, 632-5 (1959). Wie in der Literatur beschrieben, können Epoxidharze auch nach einer Reihe von Standardwegen modifiziert
werden, wie durch Reaktion mit Aminen, Carbonsäuren, Thiolen, Phenolen, Alkoholen usw., wie in den US-PS'en 2
488, 3 235 620, 3 369 055, 3 379 653, 3 398 211, 3 403 199, 3 563 840, 3 567 797, 3 677 995 usw. gezeigt. Weitere Coreaktionskomponenten,
die mit Epoxidharzen verwendet werden können, sind flexibelmachende Komponenten mit Hydroxy1-Endgruppen,
wie Polyester mit Hydroxylendgruppen, s. Encyclopedia
of Polymer Science and Technology, Bd. 6, 1967, Interscience
Publishers, New York, S. 209-271, insbesondere S. 238.
Unter die photopolymerisierbaren organischen Materialien fallen die wärmehärtenden organischen Kondensationsharze von
Formaldehyd, die bei der praktischen Durchführung der Erfindung verwendet werden können, z.B. Harze des Harnstofftyps,
Harze des Phenol-Formaldehyd-Typs.
Außerdem können Melamin-Thioharnstoff-Harze, Melamin- oder
Harnstoff-Aldehyd-Harze, Cresol-Formaldehyd-Harze und Kombinationen
mit anderen carboxyl-, hydroxyl-, amino- und mercaptohaltigen Harzen, wie Polyester , Alkyd-Harze und Polysulfide,
verwendet werden.
Manche der viny!organischen Vorpolymeren, die zur Herstellung
der erfindungsgemäßen polymerisierbaren Zusammensetzungen verwendet werden können, sind z.B. CH0=CH-O-(CH0-CH9O) ,-CH=CH2,
worin n' eine positive ganze Zahl mit einem Wert von etwa 1000 oder darüber ist; multifunktionelle Vinylether, wie
1,2,3-Propan-tr!vinylether, Trimethylpropan-trivinylether,

niedermolekulares Polybutadien mit einer Viskosität von 0,2 bis 10 Pa*s (200 bis 10 000 cP) bei 25°C usw. Aus der Härtung
solcher Zusammensetzungen resultierende Produkte können als Druckfarben und für andere, für wärmehärtende Harze typische
Anwendungen herangezogen werden.
Eine weitere Kategorie der photopolymerisierbaren organischen Materialien, die zur Herstellung der polymerisierbaren
Zusammensetzungen verwendet werden können, sind cyclische Ether, die in Thermoplaste überführbar sind. Zu solchen cyclischen
Ethern gehören beispielsweise Oxetane, wie 3,3-Bischlormethyloxetan,
Alkoxyoxetane, wie von Schroeter in der US-PS 3 673 216 der selben Anmelderin gezeigt; Oxolane, wie
Tetrahydrofuran, Oxepane, sauerstoffhaltige Spiroverbindungen,
Trioxan, Dioxolan usw.
Neben den cyclischen Ethern gehören auch cyclische Ester dazu, wie ß-Lactone, z.B. Propiolacton, cyclische Amine, wie
1 ,3,3-Trimethylazetidin, und cyclische Organosiliciumverbindungen,
z.B. solche der Formel
worin R" der gleiche oder ein unterschiedlicher einwertiger organischer Rest, wie Methyl oder Phenyl, sein kann und m
eine ganze Zahl von 3 bis 8 einschließlich ist. Ein Beispiel einer cyclischen Organosiliciumverbindung ist Hexamethyltrisiloxan,
Octamethyltetrasiloxan usw. Die erfindungsgemäß hergestellten Produkte sind hochmolekulare öle und Harze.
Bei der praktischen Durchführung der Erfindung können die Arylketon-haltigen Jodoniumsalze der Formel (1) durch Umsetzung
zwischen einem Aryljodosotosylat und einem aromatischen
Keton bei Temperaturen im Bereich von etwa 25 bis 125 C hergestellt werden. In besonderen Fällen kann die Umsetzung
in der Schmelze durchgeführt werden, oder es kann ein geeignetes organisches Lösungsmittel verwendet werden, um
die Reaktion zu erleichtern. Geeignete aromatische Ketone, die verwendet werden können, sind z.B. Benzophenon, Acetophenon,
Propiophenon, 4-Benzoy!benzoesäure, 4-Benzoylbiphenyl, 4-Brombenzophenon,
2-Chlorbenzophenon, 3-Nitrobenzophenon, 4,4'-Dimethoxybenzophenon,
4-Hydroxybenzophenon, 9-Fluorenon, Thioxanthon, Anthra-chinon, Naphthochinon, Acridon, Benzil-1-benzoy!naphthalin,
1-Tetralon, Xanthon, 4-Chlorthioxanthon,
4-Acetylbiphenyl, oC-Bromacetophenon usw.
In besonderen Fällen kann zur Erleichterung der Umsetzung ein inertes organisches Lösungsmittel verwendet werden. Solche inerten
organischen Lösungsmittel, die mit einbezogen werden können, sind z.B. Chloroform, Methylenchlorid, Essigsäure,
Nitromethan, Acetonitril, Tetrachlorkohlenstoff usw.
Danach kann das aromatisches Keton enthaltende Aryljodoniumtosy

in die das aromatische Keton enthaltenden Aryljodoniumsalze der Formel (1) durch eine Umsetzungsreaktion, wie zuvor beschrieben,
unter Verwendung eines Metall- oder Metalloidsalzes oder Wasserstoff-substituierter Quelle eines Gegenions
umgewandelt werden , um ein geeignetes Anion zu liefern, das unter X fällt, wie zuvor definiert. Geeignete Metalloder
Metalloidsalze, die bei der Umsetzung verwendet werden können, sind beispielsweise in der eigenen US-PS 4 173 551
aufgeführt, deren Offenbarungsgehalt durch diese Bezugnahme in die vorliegende Anmeldung mit einbezogen wird. Manche dieser
Metall- oder Metalloidsalze umfassen Übergangsmetalle, wie Sb, Fe, Sn, Bi, Al, Ga, In, Ti, Zr, Sc, V, Cr, Mn, C,
seltene Erdelemente, wie Lanthaniden, z.B. Ce, Pr, Nd, usw., Actiniden, wie Th, Pa, U, Np usw., und Metalloide, wie B, P,
As usw. Die Gewinnung der arylhaltigen Jodoniumsalze kann nach Standardtechniken unter Anwendung solcher Techniken wie
Filtration, Anwendung von Zentrifugen usw., erfolgen.
Die erfindungsgemäße photopolymerisierbare Zusammensetzung kann durch Mischen des photopolymerisierbaren organischen Materials
mit einer wirksamen Menge des Arylketon-haltigen Jodoniumsalzes hergestellt werden, die 0,1 bis 15 % Arylketonhaltiges
Jodoniumsalz, bezogen auf das Gewicht des photopolymerisierbaren organischen Materials, sein kann. Vorzugsweise
können 0,5 bis etwa 5 Gew.-% Arylketon-haltiges Jodoniumsalz eingesetzt werden.
Die erfindungsgemäßen photohärtbaren Zusammensetzungen können
inaktive Bestandteile, wie Siliciumdioxid, Talkum, Ton, Glasfasern, Streckmittel, hydratisiertes Aluminiumoxid, Kohlenstoff
asern, Verfahrenshilfsmittel usw., in Mengen bis zu etwa 500 Teilen Füllstoff pro 100 Teile des photopolymerisierbaren
organischen Materials enthalten. Die photopolymerisierbaren Zusammensetzungen können auf Substrate wie Metall,
Gummi, Kunststoff, Formteile von Filmen, Papier, Holz, Glas, Stoff, Beton, Keramik usw. aufgebracht werden.

Einige der Anwendungen, bei denen die erfindungsgemäßen photohärtbaren
Zusammensetzungen eingesetzt werden können, sind z.B. schützende, dekorative und isolierende überzüge, Pitting-
oder Orangenschaleneffekt-Verbindungen, Druckfarben, Dichtmittel, Kleber, Preß- oder Spritzformverbindungen, Drahtisolierung,
Textilüberzüge, Laminate, imprägniertes Band, Lacke usw.
Das folgende Beispiel dient der besseren Durchführbarkeit der Erfindung zur Veranschaulichung, keineswegs zur Beschränkung.
Alle Teile sind auf das Gewicht bezogen.
Ein Gemisch aus 0,025 Mol Phenyljodosotosylat, 0,05 Mol Arylketon
wurde gerührt und eine Stunde auf 130 bis 135°C erwärmt. Bei der Umsetzung wurde das Gemisch homogen, und nach dem Abkühlen
wurde es in 100 ml Ethylether gegossen. Es bildete sich ein öl, das mit Diethylether gewaschen und dann in 50 ml Methylethylketon
gelöst wurde. Die anfallende Lösung wurde mit 5 g Kaliumhexafluorarsenat versetzt. Es trat sofort Ausfällung von
Kalium-p-toluolsulfonat ein, das abfiltriert wurde. Das lösungsmittel
wurde dann an einem Rotationsverdampfer entfernt und der anfallende Feststoff aus Ethanol umkristallisiert. Das anfallende
Produkt wurde dann auf UV-Absorption (λ ) mit einem

Beckman-UV-Spektrophotometer untersucht. Die folgenden Ergebnisse wurden erhalten:

Eine 1%ige Lösung von 3-Benzoylphenylphenyljodonium-hexafluorarsenat
und Limonendioxid wurde in einen Aluminiumbecher gegossen
und 5 min in einem Abstand von 12,7 cm (5") mit einer GE HSTV-Mitteldruck-Quecksilberbogenlampe bestrahlt. Es wurde
gefunden, daß die Lösung bis zurr. Boden des Aluminiumbechers
härtete, was einer Dicke von 1,8 mm (70,8 mils) entsprach.
Beispiel 3
Die gleiche Arbeitsweise wurde wiederholt, mit der Ausnahme, daß eine 1%ige Lösung von Diphenyljodoniumhexafluorarsenat in
Limonendioxid verwendet wurde. Am Ende der Bestrahlung nach
der gleichen Arbeitsweise war die Lösung an der Oberfläche noch unvollständig gehärtet und unter der Oberfläche ungehärtet.
Ein 1%iges Gemisch von 3-Benzoylphenylphenyljodoniumhexafluorarsenat
und Epon 812, ein Gemisch aus Bisphenol A-diglycidylether und Butyldiglycidylether, wurde 2,5 min bestrahlt,
wie in Beispiel 2 beschrieben.

Die obigen Ergebnisse zeigen, daß die erfindungsgemäßen UV-härtbaren
Zusammensetzungen zu einer größeren Dicke gehärtet werden können als die herkömmlichen UV-härtbaren Zusammensetzungen
unter Verwendung von Diphenyljodoniumsalzen als Photoinitiator.
Eine 1%ige Lösung des Photoinitiatois in 3,4-Epoxycyclohexylmethyl-3',4'-epoxycyclohexancarboxylat
(ERL 4221) wurde 1 min in einem Aluminiumbecher nach der Arbeitsweise des Beispiels
3 bestrahlt. Die folgenden Ergebnisse wurden erhalten:

Die obige Arbeitsweise wurde wiederholt, mit der Ausnahme, daß anstelle des aromatisches Keton enthaltenden Diphenyljodoniumsalzes
gemäß der Erfindung eine 1%ige Lösung von Diphenyl jodoniumhexafluorarsenat verwendet wurde. Es wurde ein
gehärteter Film mit einer Dicke von etwa 0,36 mm (14,3 mils) erhalten. Die obigen Ergebnisse zeigen ferner, daß die erfindungsgemäßen
UV-härtbaren Zusammensetzungen Eigenschaften überlegener Tiefenhärtung im Vergleich mit herkömmlichen
UV-härtbaren Zusammensetzungen zeigen.
Wenngleich die obigen Beispiele auf nur einige wenige der sehr vielen Variablen gerichtet sind, die bei der praktischen
Durchführung der Erfindung Anwendung finden können, sollte klar sein, daß die Erfindung auf eine wesentlich größere
Vielfalt tiefgreifend UV-härtbarer kationisch polymerisierbarer Zusammensetzungen, Arylketon-haltiger Jodoniumsalze
und Verfahren zur Herstellung solcher Materialien, wie in der Beschreibung vor diesen Beispielen gezeigt, gerichtet ist.

- 7. Verfahren zur Herstellung eines Arylketon-haltigen Jodoniumsalzes der Formel/RR1I/+X~
gekennzeichnet durchA) Umsetzung zwischen einem Aryljodosotosylat und einem aromatischen Keton bei einer Temperatur von 25 bis 125°C,B) Umsetzung zwischen dem anfallenden Arylketonhaltigen Jodoniumtosylat und einer Gegenionenquelle undC) Gewinnen des Arylketon-haltigen Hexafluor-Metalloid-Salzes aus dem Gemisch von (B),worin R ein einwertiger aromatischer Cfi_.. .,-Kohlenwasserstoffrest oder halogensubstituierter einwertiger aromatischer Kohlenwasserstoffrest und R eine einwertige Arylketongruppe ist, die am Jod über ein Kern-Kohlenstoffatom zur Bildung einer Kohlenstoff-Jod-Bindung hängt, und X ein Gegenion ist. - 8. Verfahren nach Anspruch 7, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß als Arylketon Benzophenon verwendet wird.

Arylketon-haltige Jodoniumsalze der Formeliy+x~worin R ein einwertiger aromatischer Cfi_.. -,-Kohlenwasserstoffrest oder halogensubstituierter einwertiger aromatischer Kohlenwasserstoff rest und R eine einwertige Arylketongruppe ist, die am Jod über ein Kern-Kohlenstoffatom zur Bildung einer Kohlenstoff-Jod-Bindung hängt, und X ein Gegenion ist.
