Chloratomen oder Nitrogruppen substituiert sein kann, bedeutet.
2. Verfahren zur Herstellung von Bismonocarbonsäureestern des 3-Formyl-butan-diol-(l,2),
dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man Bismonocarbonsäureester des Buten-l-diol-(3,4) in an sich bekannter
Weise mit Kohlenmonoxid und Wasserstoff in Gegenwart von Carbonylkomplexen des Rhodiums
bei erhöhter Temperatur und unter erhöhtem Druck umsetzt.

Gegenstand der Erfindung . ino. äismonocarbonsäureester
des 3-Formyl-butan-, iol-1,2 sowie ein Verfahren
zu deren Herstellung 'urch Oxo-Synthese.
Ein allgemein in der Technik eingeführtes Verfahren tcur Herstellung von Aldehyden ist die Oxo-Synthcse,
bei der olefinisch ungesättigte Verbindungen mit Kohlenmonoxid und Wasserstoff in Gegenwart von Carbonylkomplexen
von Metallen der 8. Gruppe des periodischen Systems, z. B. Kobaltcarbonyl, umgesetzt
werden. Neben Olefinen wurden auch schon eine Reihe von olefinisch ungesättigten Verbindungen, die
funktioneile Gruppen enthalten, nach dem Oxo-Verfahren umgesetzt. So ist z. B. aus dem »Journal of the
American Chemical Society«, Bd. 71, 1949. S. 3053, bekannt, daß man nach dem Oxo-Verfahren aus Allylacetat
}'-Acctoxy-butyraldehyd erhält.
Es war somit zu erwarten, daß bei der Umsetzung von Bismonocarbonsäureestern des Buten-l-dioI-3,4
nach dem Oxo-Verfahrcn Bismonocarbonsäureester des 4,5-Dihydroxy-pentanal-l entstehen, da dem verwendeten
Ausgangsstoff die chemische Struktur des AllylacPtiits zugrunde liegt.
Es wurde nun gefunden, daß man bisher nicht beschriebene Monocarbonsäureester des 3-Formyl-butan-diol-1,2
vorteilhaft erhall, wenn man Bismonocarbonsäureester des Buten-l-diol-3.4 mit Kohlenmonoxid
und Wasserstoff in Gegenwart von Carbonylkomplexen des Rhodiums bei erhöhter Temperatur
und unter erhöhtem Druck umsetzt.
Das neue Verfahren hat den Vorteil, daß bisher nicht zugängliche Bismonocarbonsäureester des 3-Formylbutan-diol-1,2
auf einfache Weise hergestellt werden können. Außerdem hat das neue Verfahren den Vorteil,
daß es mit guten Ausbeuten verläuft.
Bevorzugte Bismonocarbonsäureester des Butenl-diol-3,4
sind Ester mit gesättigten Fettsäuren mit 1 bis 18 Kohlenstoffatomen und Benzoesäure, die
durch 1 oder 2 Alkoxy- odei Alkylgruppen mit 1 bis 4 Kohlenstoffatomen, Chloratomen oder Nitrogruppen
substituiert sein können. Besonders bewrzugt wei den die Ester mit niederen Fettsäuren, insbesondere
solche mit 1 bis 4 Kohlenstoffatomen, verwendet. Geeignete Ausgangsstoffe sind beispielsweise Butcnl-diol-3,4-diformiat,
Buten-l-diol-3,4-diacetat, Buu-nl-diol-3
4-dipropionat. Buten-l-diol-3,4-dipalmitat, Buten-l-diol-3,4-dibenzoat. Buten-l-diol-3,4-dipurachlorbenzoat.
Kohlenmonoxid und Wasserstoff werden im tilgen,
-nen im Volumenverhältnis 2:1 bis 1:2. insbesondere etwa im Volumenverhältnis von I : 1 eingesetzt.
Es ist möglich, die Bismonocarbonsäureesicr des Buten-l-diol-3,4 und das Gemisch aus Kohlenmonoxid
z. B. in stöchiometrischen Mengen bis /u einem Überschuß von 50 Molprozcnt anzuwenden.
Die Umsetzung führt man vorteilhaft bei Temperaturen von 60 bis 120 C durch. Besonders gute i rgebnisse
erhalt man wenn man Temperaturen \on 80 bis 105 C einhält. Im allgemeinen wendet man
bei der Umsetzung Drücke von 300 bis 1200 atm an. Vorzugsweise führt man die Umsetzung bei Drücken
von 500 bis 700 atm durch.
Die Umsetzung wird in Ge^nwart von Carbonylkomplexen
des Rhodiums durchgeführt. Hs ist möglich, die Carbonylkomplexe vor der Oxo-Reaktion gesondert
herzustellen oder die Ausgangsstoffe für die Carbonylkomplexe, wie Halogenide, Oxide oder fettsaure Salze des Rhodium? getrennt der Reaktion zuzuführen.
Der Katalvsator bildet sirh dann von selbst unter den Reaktionsbedingungen. Vorzugsweise wendet
man 0,00005 bis 0,05 Gewichtsprozent an Rhodium, berechnet als Metall, bezogen auf die Menge
der eingesetzten Bismonocarbonsäureester des Butenl-diol-3,4
an. Besonders vorteilhaft haben sich Mengen von 0,0001 bis 0.01% an Rhodium erwiesen.
Es ist möglich, die I msetzung ohne Mitverwendung inerter Lösungsmittel durchzuführen. Andererseits
ist es auch möglich, die Umsetzung in Gegenwart von unter Reaktionsbedingungen inerten Lösungsmitteln
wie Kohlenwasserstoffen, z. B. Benzol. Cyclohex:1" Xylol, Hexan, Äthcrn wie Diäthyläther. Tetrahydrofuran
oder Dioxan, Ester wie Äthylacetat, durchzuführen.
Das Verfahren nach der Erlindung führt man beispielsweise
aus, indem man in einem Hochdri'-'kgefäß
Bismonocarbonsäureester des Buten-l-diol-3,4, ge gebcnenfalls zusammen mit inerten Lösungsmitteln
und den beschriebenen Mengen an Katalysatoren vorlegt und unter den angegebenen Drücken und Temperaturen
mit einem Gemisch aus Kohlenmonoxid und Wasserstoff der angegebenen Zusammensetzung umsetzt.
Das Reaktionsgemisch wird nach dem Entspannen und Abkühlen durch Destillation von den Katalysatoren
get rennt. Aus dem so erhaltenen Gemisch

werden dann die Bismonocarbonsäureester des 3-Formyl-butandiol-1,2
nach bekannten Methoden. 7. B. fraktionierte Destillation, isoliert. In geeigneten \Orrichtungen
läßt sich die Umsetzung auf einfache Weise kontinuierlich durchführen.
Aus den nach dem Verfahren der Erfindung hergestellten
Bismonocarbonsäurecstern des 3-Formyl-butan-diol-1.2
kann durch Abspaltung ei.^es Carbonsäureesters in /f-Formylcrotylester übergeführt v,erden.

Obwohl Vitamin A. das aus den beanspruchten gegeben. Vitamin A auf einfacherem Wege herzustellen
neuen Stoffen hergestellt wird, ein bekannter Stoff mit 15 als bisher. Vitamin A wird bislang folgendem Reakbekannten

Vitamin-A-acetat
Abgesehen davon, daß man bei der bisherigen Arbeitsweise von dem nicht wohlfeilen Methylglyoxal-dimethylacetal
ausgeht, sind fünf Verfahrens* ifen notwendig, um schließlich zu Vitamin-A-acetat zu gelangen.
Demgegenüber ist es durcii die neuen Stoffe gemäß der vorliegenden Patentanmeldung möglich, Viiamin-A-acetat
nach folgendem Reaktionsweg herzustellen:

Die neuen Stoffe ermöglichen es. Vitamin-A-acetat anstatt in 5 nunmehr in 4 Verfahrensstufen zu erzeugen.
Dies stellt eine nicht unwesentliche Vereinfachung dar. Zudem wird es ermöglicht, von Butendiol-1,4-acetat,
das industriell erzeugt wirj und wohlfeil zur Ver- >
fugung steht, als Ausgangsstoff auszugehen. Fs war a priori nicht absehbar, daß durch die Verwendung
der neuen Stoffe eine Stufe bei der Herstellung von Vitamin-A-acetat eingespart werden kann.
Dit in folgenden Beispielen angegebenen Teile sind Gewichtsteile. Sie verhalten sich zu den Raumteilen
wie Kilogramm zu Liter.
In einem Hochdruckreaktionsgefaßaus nichtrosten- is
dem Stahl von 700 Raumteilen Inhalt werden 150Teile
Buten-l-dioI-3,4-diacetat, 200 Teile Benzol und 0,15 Teile Rhodium(III)-chlorid vorgelegt. Der Autoklav
wird nach Verdrängen der Luft durch 3maliges Aufpressen von Stickstoff auf 20 atm und anschließen- ;o
des Entspannen der Raumtemperatur mit einem Gemisch aus gleichen Volumteilen Kohlenmonoxid und
Wasserstoff bis zu einem Druck von 100 atm beschickt. Anschließend wird das Hochdruckgefäß auf
1000C aufgeheizt und von dem genannten Gasgemisch
so viel aufgepreßt, daß ein Druck von 700 atm erreicht wird. Innerhalb von 3 Stunden werden 310atm
des Gasgemisches nachgepreßt. Nach dem Abkühlen und Entspannen erhält man 365 Teile Realtionsprodukt.
Durch fraktionierte Destillation erhält man 256 Teile 3-Formyl-butan-diol-l,2-diacetat vom Siedepunkt
94 bis 100o/0,4 bis 0,5 mm Hg und vom Brechungsindex
1,4385.
In einen-· Hochdruckgefaß von 10 000 Raumteilen
Inhalt werden 6000 Teile Buten-l-dio'-3,4-diacetat
und 0,05 Teile dimeres Cyclooktadienrhodiunichlorid der Formel
[C8H12RhCl],
vorgelegt. Dieses Gemisch wird wie im Beispiel 1 beschrieben 14 Stunden bei 600 atü mit einem Gemisch
aus gleichen Volumteilen Kohlenmonoxid und Wasserstoff umgesetzt. Nach dem Abkühlen und Entspannen
erhält man 6887 Teile Reaktionsprodukt. Durch fraktionierte Destillation erhält man daraus
4805 Teile (70% der Theorie) 3-Formyl-butandiol-1,2-diacetat.
In einem Hochdruckgefaß legt man 150 Teile Butenl-diol-3,4-diformiat,
600 Teile Benzol und 0,03 Teile dimeres Oktadienrhodiumchlorid vor und führt die
Reaktion wie im Beispiel 1 beschrieben bei einem Druck von 700 atü mit einem Gemisch aus gleichen
Volumteilen Kohlenmonoxid und Wasserstoff und bei 100° C 6 Stunden lang durch. Nach dem Abkühlen und
Entspannen erhält man 157 Teile eines Gemisches, das nach gaschromatographischer Analyse 100 Teile
3-Fcrmylbutandiol-1,2-diformiat enthält.
Wie im Beispiel 3 beschrieben wird ein Gemisch aus 150 Teilen Buten-1-diol-3,4-dibenzoat, 300 Teilen Benzol
und 0,05 Teilen Triphenylphosphinrhodiumchlorid umgesetzt. Die Gasaufnahme beträgt innerhalb von
6 Stunden 140 atm. Nach beendeter Reaktion erhält man 157 Teile eines Reaktionsproduktes, das sich
destillativ bisher nicht trennen läßt. Durch Abspalten von Benzoesäure mit 0.2 g Natriumacetat bei 100" C
erhält man daraus 29 Teile 3-FonnyIcrotylbenzoat
vom Schmelzpunkt 44 bis 46° C.
