Das Polyolefin wird zuerst mit Maleinsäureanhydrid bei 5Jemperaturen
von ungefähr 200 - 2500C während einer Zeltspanne von
ungefähr 6-16 Stunden, je nach Bedarf, umgesetzt. ])as Maleinsäureanhydrid
wird im Überschuss eingesetzt, vorzugsweise in einer Menge, die etwa das 1,5- bis 3-fache über der stSchiometrischen
Menge liegt. Die Verwendung eines Überschusses an Maleinsäure hat maximale Ausbeuten zur Polge. Das Polyolefin
reagiert mit dem Maleinsäureanhydritl unter Bildung eines Bernsteinsäureanhydrid-Derivats, das von dem überschüssigen Maleinsäureanhydrid

Bei dem Sundstrand-fumpentest unter Verwendung von 0,01 g in
100 ml öl beträgt das Gewicht des Sehlamms 60 mg, während das
öl ohne Additiv die Bildung eines Schlamms mit einem Gewicht
von 230 mg zur Folge hat,
