daß man 4-Halogen-3-hydroxy-chinophthalone der allgemeinen Formel
Q in der X ein Sauerstoff- oder Schwefelatom, R einer Arylrest, einen Alkylrest mit 1 bis 12 C-Atomen

Verbindungen der Chinophthalonreihe sind als Farbstoffe, die sich zum Färben von Polyesterfasern
eignen, aus der deutschen Auslegeschrift 1 168 862 bekannt.
Von den substituierten Chinopht*1 klonen ist das
4-Brom-3-hydroxy-chinophthalon,ein besonders lichtechter
Farbstoff für Polyesterfasern mit mäßiger Thermofixierechtheit, in den britischen Patentschriften
865 303 und 1 036 389 beschrieben.
Es wurde nun gefunden, daß man neue thermofixierechte Farbstoffe der Chinophthalonreihe der
allgemeinen Formel
X-R
in der Q ein Chlor- oder Bromatom bedeutet und v Z, m und η die oben angegebenen Bedeutungen
haben, a) mit Verbindungen der Formel
R-XH
in der R und X die oben angegebenen Bedeutungen haben, in Gegenwart alkalischer Mittel, oder
b) mit Verbindungen der Formel
R-XMe
worin Me ein Alkalimetallatom oder den Rest einer tertiären Base bedeutet, umsetzt.
3. Verfahren nach Anspruch 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man die Umsetzung bei Temperaturen
zwischen 100 und 200°C durchführt.

Der Arylrest R in den vorstehend genannten Formeln ist ein Phenyl-, N&nhthyl-, Anthracenyl-, Fluorenyl-.
Anthrachinonyl- Uvior Pyrenylrest. Diese Reste
können ein- oder mehrfach substituiert sein. Substituenten
sind: Hydroxy-, Alkoxy-, Phenoxy-, Nitro-, Keto-. Aldeii.'d-, Carboxyl-, Carboalkoxy-, Amino-.
Alkyl-. Phenyl-, Naphthyl- oder Benzylgruppcn oder Halogenatome, wobei die Alkoxyreste 1 bis 4 und die
Alkylreste 1 bis 9 C-Atome enthalten. Der Alkylrest mit 1 bis 12 C-Atomei) R oder der Cyclohexylrest R
bzw. der heterocyclische Rest R in den obigen Formeln kann ebenfalls substituiert sein, und zwar durch
Hydroxy-, Alkoxy-, Phenoxy-, Cyan-, Sulfon-, Amino- oder Cyclohexylgruppen, vor allem durch Phenyl-
oder NaphthylgTuppen, oder durch Halogenatome. Der heterocyclische Rest R in den vorstehend genannten
Formeln isiein Chinolin-, Pyridin-, Pyrazolon-(5)-, Morpholin. Benzimidi^ol-, .etrazol-, Benzoxazol-
oder Benzthiazolrest.
Geeignete Ausgangsmaterialit.i der Chinophthalonreihe
sind z. B. ^Brom-S-hydroxy-chinophthalon,
4-( hlor-3-hydroxy-chinophthalon, 4,5',6'-Tribrom-3
- hydroxy - chinophthalon, 4,4',5',6',7'-Pentabrom-3
- hydroxy - chinophthalon, - 4 - Brom - 4',7' - dichlor-
3 - hydroxy - chinophthalon, 4- Brom -4',5',6',7' - tetrachlor- 3- hydroxy-chinophthalon, 4-Brom-4'-fluor-3-hydroxy-chinophthalon,
4-Brom-5'-nitro-3 hydroxy-chinophthalon, 4,6-Dibrom-3-hydroxy-chinophthalon,
4 - Brom - 5,7 - dichlor - 3 - hydroxy - chinophthalon und 4-Brom-5'-phenyl-3-hydroxy-chinophthalon.

2-Amino-3-mercaptotoluol, Äthylmercaptan, Dodecanthiol, 5 - Nitro - 2 - mercapto - benzimidazol,
5-Mercapto-1 -phenyltetrazol, 2-Mercaptobenzoxazol
und 2-Mercapto-benzthiazol.
Als alkrlische Mittel lassen sich beispielsweise Alkalihydroxide, wie Natriumhydroxid oder Kaüumhydroxid,
oder wasserfreie Alkalicarbonate, wie Natriumcarbonat oder Kaliumcarbonat sowie auch wasserfreie
tertiäre Basen, wie Trimethylamin oder Tributylamin, verwenden.
Die Umsetzung erfolgt zweckmäßig in einem Überschuß der Hydroxy- bzw. Mercaptoverbindung in der
Schmelze bei oder oberhalb der Schmelztemperatur, zweckmäßig bei Temperaturen zwischen 100 und
200° C, vorzugsweise zwischen 120 und 160° C. Sobald in der Schmelze kein Ausgangsmaterial mehr nachzuweisen
ist, wird die Mischung, gegebenenfalls nach dem Abdestillieren des Überschusses an Hydroxy-
bzw. Mercaptoverbindungen, in Wasser oder einen niederen Alkohol eingetragen. Der ausgefallene Farbstoff
wird abgesaugt, gewaschen und getrocknet.
In vielen Fällen ist es von Vorteil, die Umsetzung in einem Lösungsmittel durchzuführen. Geeignete Lösungsmittel
sind solche, die ein ausreichendes Lösevermögen für die Alkalisalze der Hydroxy- bzw. Mercaptoverbindungen
besitzen. Solche Lösungsmittel sind beispielsweise Dialkylformamide, wie Dimethylformamid,
N-Alkylacetamide. wie N-Methylacetamid,
Phosphorsäure-tris-dialkylam'.de, wie Phosphorsäuretris-dimethylamid,
und Dialkylsulfoxide, wie Dimethylsulfoxid. Bei der Verwendung eines dieser Lösungsmittel ist es vorteilhaft, zunächst aus der entsprechenden
Hydroxy- bzw. Mercaptoverbindung und dem alkalischen Mittel das Salz zu bilden und das
dabei entstehende Wasser mit Hilfe eines Schleppmittels abzudestillieren. Als Schleppmittel sind aromatische
und cycloaliphatische Kohlenwasserstoffe, wie beispielsweise Toluol. Xylol oder Cyclohexan
geeignet. Das Schleppmittel wird nach Beendigung der Salzbildung selbst abdestilliert, das Chinophtha!onderivat
wird zugefügt und auf die Reaktionstemperatur erhitzt, zweckmäßig auf 100 bis 2000C, vorzugsweise
100 bis 1400C. Der Verlauf der Reaktion läßt sich mit
Hilfe der Dünnschichtchromatographie gut verfolgen. Die Isolierung des Farbstoffs erfolgt beim Arbeiten
in Lösungsmitteln zweckmäßig durch Eingießen des Reaktionsgemisches in Wasser, verdünnte Mineralsäuren
oder niedere Alkohole und Abfiltrieren des ausgefallenen Farbstoffs.
Die erfindungsgemäß hergestellten Farbstoffe geben auf synthetischen Fasermaterialien, insbesondere solchen
aus Polyäthylenterephthalaten, gelbe Färbungen mit guten Wasch-, Lösungsmittel- und Lichtechtheiten
und überraschend guten Thermofixier- und Bügelechtheitcn. Gegenüber den mit 3-Hydroxychinophthalonoder4-Brom-3-hydroxy-chinophthalon
erhältlichen Färbungen zeichnen sie sich durch bessere Thermofixierechtheit aus.
Zur Herstellung echter Färbungen werden die Polyestermatcrialien in Anwesenheit von (arricrn
zwischen 80 und 1100C oder in Abwesenheit von
Carriem zwischen 110 und 140'C mit den betreffenden
Farbstoffen behandelt. Zur Herstellung von Drucken werden wäßrige Druckpasten auf das Polyestergewebe
aufgedruckt und dieses anschließend in Gegenwart eines Carriers zwischen 95 und 110 C
oder in Abwesenheit eines Carriers zwischen 120 und 140cC bedruckt.
Das Färben bzw. Bedrucken kann auch nach dem sogenannten Thermosolverfahren erfolgen, indem man
die geklotzte oder bedruckte Ware kurzfristig einer trocknen Hitzebehandlung zwischen 180 und 200rC
unterwirft.
Die erfindungsgemäß hergestellten Farbstoffe lassen
sich auch zum Färben von Polyäthylenterephthalaien in der Spinnmasse mit gutem Erfolg verwenden.
150 Gewichtsteile Phenol werden geschmolzen und bei !000C mit 7,5 Gewichtsteilen "Kaliumhydroxid
und 26 Gewichtsteilen 4-Brom-3-hydroxy-chinophthalon versetzt. Dann wird so lange auf 140cC
erhitzt, bis in einer Probe kein Ausgangsmaterial mehr nachzuweisen ist. Die Schmelze wird in 500 Gewichtsteile
Methanol eingegossen, der Farbstoff wird abgesaugt, mit Methanol gewaschen und getrocknet.
Man erhält 22 Gewichtsteile 4-Phenoxy-3-hydroxychinophthalon der Formel

Schmelzpunkt: 244 bis 246°C. Die Ausbeute beträgt 82% der Theorie. Der Farbstoff tärbt Polyesterfasern
gelb mit guten Wasch- und Lichtechtheiten und sehr guter Thermofixierechtheit.
15 Gewichtsteile 4-Hydroxy-toluol. 7.5 Gewichtsteile Kaliumhydroxid. 150 Gewichtsteile Dimethyl-
formamid und 100 Gewichtsteile Cyclohexan werden zum Sieden erhitzt; dabei wird das entstehende
Wasser über einen Wasserabscheider abdestilliert. Wenn kein Wasser mehr übergeht, wird das Cyclohexan
abdestilliert. Anschließend werden 26 Gewicntsteile 4-Brom-3-hydroxy-chinophthalon zugefügt, und
die Mischung wird so lange zum Sieden erhitzt, bis in einer Probe kein Ausgangsmatcrial mehr nachzuweisen
ist. Das Reaktionsgernisch wird in 500 Gewichtsteile Wasser eingegossen. Mit verdünnter Schwefeisäure
wird eben kongosauer gestellt, dann wird das Produkt abgesaugt, gewaschen und getrocknet. Man
erhält 22 Gewichtsteile des Farbstoffs der Formel

79% der Theorie. Der Farbstoff färbt Polyesterfasern gelb mit sehr guten Echtheiten.
50 Gewichtsteile 4-Chlorphenol werden geschmolzen
und bei lOO'C mit 3 Gewichtsteilen wasserfreiem Kaliumcarbonat und 9 Gewichtsteilen 4-Brom-5-
nitro- 3- hydroxy -chinophthalon versetzt. Dann wird so lange auf'l60cC erhitzt, bis in einer Probe
dünnschichtchromatographisch kein Ausgangsmaterial mehr nachzuweisen ist. Die Schmelze wird in
200 Gewichtsteile Methanol eingegossen. Der Farbstoff wird abgesaugt, gewaschen und getrocknet. Man
erhält 8 Gewichtsreile 4-(4"-Chlor-phenoxy|-5'-n:tro-3-hydroxy-chinophthalon
der Formel

Schmelzpunkt über 360° C. Die Ausbeute betrügt 79.5% der Theorie. Der Farbstoff färbt Polyesterfasern
gelb mit sehr guten Echtheiten.
50 Gewichtsteile 4-Hydroxy-an;sol werden geschmolzen
und bei 1000C mit 4 Gewichtsteilen wasserfreiem
Tributylamin und 9 Gewichtsteilen 4-Brom-3-hydroxy-chinophthalon
versetzt. Dann wird so lange auf 150" C erhitzt, bis in einer Probe kein Ausgangsmatcrial
mehr nachzuweisen ist. Die Schmelze wird in 200 Gewichtsteile Methanol eingegossen.
Der Farbstoff wird abgesaugt, gewaschen und getrocknet. Man erhält 8 Gewichtsteile 4-(4'-Methoxyphenoxy)-3-hydroxy-chinophthalon
der Formel

und 26 Gewichtsteile 4-Brom-3-hydroxy-chinophthalon werden in einem Autoklav so
lange auf 1500C erhitzt, bis in einer Probe kein Ausgangsmaterial
mehr nachzuweisen ist. Dann wird der Autoklavinhalt abgesaugt, mit Methanol gewaschen
und getrocknet. Man erhält 21 Gewichtsteile

1. Chinophthalonfarbstoffe der allgemeinen Formel

4. Verwendung der Farbstoffe gemäß den Ar sprächen 1 bis 3 zum Färben und Bedrucken vo
hydrophoben Fasermaterialien, vorzugsweise so chen aus Polyäthylenterephthalaten aus wäßrige
Dispersionen.
5. Verwendung der Farbstoffe gemäß den Ar Sprüchen 1 bis 3 zum Färben von Polyäthyler
terephthalaten in der Spinnmasse.
