Description
Die Erfindung bezieht sich auf Schmiermittel, die insbesondere für Motoren bestimmt sind.
Es sind viele Versuche zur Schaffung eines Schmiermittels gemacht worden, das einen Betrieb der
modernen Fahrzeugmotoren mit großer Wirksamkeit während langer Zeitdauer gestattet. Es tritt dabei
jedoch insbesondere die Schwierigkeit auf, daß Schmieröle dazu neigen, sich unter den Gebrauchsbedingungen
durch Bildung von schlamm-, lack- und harzartigen Materialien zu verschlechtern, die an den
Motorenteilen haften und dadurch die Leistung des Motors herabsetzen.
Um der Bildung dieser Ablagerungen entgegenzuwirken, sind gewisse chemische Zusatzstoffe vorgeschlagen
worden, die bei Zusatz zu Schmierölen die Fähigkeit haben, die Ablagerungen bildenden Materialien in dem 4s
Öl suspendiert zu halten, so daß der Motor sauber und während langer Zeitdauer in wirksamem Arbeitszustand
gehalten wird.
Diese Zusatzmittel sind als Reinigungsmittel (Detergent-Zusätze) oder Dispergiermittel (Dispersant-Zusätze)
bekannt.
Metallorganische Verbindungen sind in dieser Beziehung als Zusatzstoffe besonders brauchbar. Die
unerwünschten Ablagerungen, die sich an dem Kolbenrand und an den Wänden der Verbrennungskammer
bilden, ebenso wie an den Ventilen und den Zündkerzen, sind jedoch auch teilweise diesen in dem Schmiermittel
verwendeten metallhaltigen Zusatzstoffen zuzuschreiben. Jedesmal, wenn öl in dem Motor verbrannt wird,
wie dies; bei dem auf der Zylinderwand während des Verbrennungshubs vorhandenem Ölfilm auftritt, kön
nen viele in dem öl vorhandene metallhaltige Zusatzstoffe eine Asche bilden, die sich auf den
verschiedenen Oberflächen der Verbrennungskammer und denjenigen der Zündkerzen und Ventile teilweise fts
absetzt.
Es sind schon verschiedene nichtmetallische Reinigungsmittel bei Schmiermitteln bekannt. Es sind z. B.
Schmierölzusätze auf der Basis von Succinimidderivaten und Umsetzungsprodukten von Bernsteinsäure oder
Bernsteinsäureanhydrid mit einem Alkylenamin und einem Alkenylcyanid bekannt (vgL GB-PS 9 42 818 und
FR-PS 14 32 851). Ferner sind Schmierölzusatzstoffe bekannt, die durch Umsetzung eines Alkenylbernsteinsäureanhydrids
mit dem Reaktionsprodukt eines Alkylenpolyamins und eines Dicyandiamids erhalten worden
sind sowie solche, die durch Umsetzung eines Alkylenpolyamins mit einem Copolymeren aus einem
Polyolefin und Maleinsäureanhydrid hergestellt worden sind (vgl. BE-PS 6 66 544 und US-PS 32 35 503).
Diese bekannten Schmierölzusatzstoffe vom Succinimid-
oder Bernsteinsäuretyp haben gewisse Verbesserungen herbeigeführt Sie haben sich jedoch niacht als
vollständig zufriedenstellend erwiesen.
Aus der US-PS 24 59114 ist es bekannt, als
Korrosionsinhibitoren bei Mineralölen, insbesondere Schmierölen, öllösliche, schwefelenthaltende Reaktionsprodukte
einzusetzen, die durch Umsetzung eines Aldehyds, einer hydroxyaromatischen Verbindung und
eines Polyamins, bei dem jede Aminogruppe wenigstens ein Wasserstoffatom zur Bildung eines Kondensationsproduxts
aufweist, und darauffolgende Umsetzung de«, gebildeten Kondensationsprodukts mit elementarem
Schwefel oder Schwefelhalogenid oder einer Mischung davon hergestellt worden sind.
Die hydroxyaromatische Verbindung kann einen oder mehrere Alkylsubstituenten enthalten. Die Verwendung
von schwefelenthaltenden Zusatzstoffen bei Mineralölen, insbesondere Schmierölen, führt jedoch zu
schwierigen Korrosionsproblemen.
Aufgabe der Erfindung ist die Schaffung eines Schmiermittels auf der Basis von natürlichen oder
synthetischen Ölen, das Zusatzstoffe mit Dispergierwirkung enthält, bei deren Anwendung keine Korrosionsprobleme auftreten und die sich durch ein breites
Wirkungsspektrum auszeichnen.
Das Schmiermittel gemäß der Erfindung, bestehend aus (1) natürlichen, raffinierten oder synthetischen ölen
bzw. einer Mischung solcher öle mit Schmierviskosität, (2) Zusatzstoffen mit Dispergierwirkungen und gegebenenfalls
(3) üblichen Hilfs-Zusatzstoffen ist dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß es als Komponente (2) ein
Kondensationsprodukt enthält, das durch Umsetzung eines alkylsubstituierten Phenols von hohem Molekulargewicht,
bei welchem der Alkylsubstituent ein Molekulargewicht von 600 bis 3000, insbesondere 750 bis 1200
hat, eines wenigstens ein aktives Wasserstoffatom aufweisenden Amins mit einer HN
< -Gruppe, und eines Aldehyds in einem molaren Verhältnis von alkylsubstituiertem
Phenol: Amin : Aldehyd von 1 :0,1 bis 10 :0,1
bis 10 hergestellt worden ist.
Es ist höchst überraschend, daß das Schmieröl gemäß der Erfindung mit einem Gehalt des vorstehend
definierten Kondensationsprodukts — ohne Anwesenheit des Korrosionsprobleme bedingenden Schwefels —
wie Versuche gezeigt haben, hervorragende Eigenschaften hat.
Zur Herstellung des Kondensationsproduktes können die Reaktionsteilnehmer, nämlich das alkylsubstituierte
Phenol von hohem Molekulargewicht, bei welchem der Alkylsubstituent ein Molekulargewicht von 600 bis 3000
hat, das wenigstens ein aktives Wasserstoffatom aufweisendes Amin mit einer HN <-Gruppe und ein
Aldehyd in dem angegebenen molaren Verhältnis bei Temperaturen zwischen 20 und 2000C miteinander
umgesetzt werden.
Die Reaktion zur Bildung der Phenole kann wie folgt dargestellt werden:

wobei R ein Kohlenwasserstoff- oder ein substituierter Kohlenwasserstoffrest ist, R1 eine Polyalkylenverbindung
bedeutet, in der die sich wiederholende Alkyleinheit
sich von Ca bis C5 erstrecken kann, χ eine ganze Zahl
von 1 bis 2 ist, y eine ganze Zahl von 0 bis 2 bedeutet und
ζ eine ganze Zahl von 1 bis 2 darstellt. Gemäß Infrarotspektroskopie ist das Endprodukt ein Gemisch
von ortho-, para- und 2,4-substituierten Phenolen. Es ist gefunden worden, daß diese Gruppe von öllöslichen
Fraktionen in Mengen von 0,05 bis 25% ein Schmiermittel verbessert, indem hochdispergierende Eigenschaften
in ihm herbeigeführt werden.
Beispiele von alkylsubstituierten Phenolen mit hohem Molekulargewicht sind Polypropylphenol, Polybutylphenol,
Polyamylphenol und in ähnlicher Weise substituierte Phenole. Anstelle des Phenols kommen
auch alkylsubsütuierte Verbindungen mit hohem Molekulargewicht von
Resorcin, Hydrochinon, Catechin, Kresol, Xylenol,
Amylphenol, Hydroxydiphenyl, Benzylphenol,
Phenyläthylphenol, Phenolharze,
Methylhydroxydiphenyl, Gujacol, α- und
jJ-Naphthol, λ- und j3-Methylnaphthol,
Tolylnaphthol, Xylylnaphthol, Benzylnaphlhol,
Anthranol, Phenylmethylnaphthol, Phenanthrol,
Monomethyläther von Catechin, Phenoxyphenol,
Chlorphenyl und Hydroxyphenylsuifiden
in Betracht.
Amylphenol, Hydroxydiphenyl, Benzylphenol,
Phenyläthylphenol, Phenolharze,
Methylhydroxydiphenyl, Gujacol, α- und
jJ-Naphthol, λ- und j3-Methylnaphthol,
Tolylnaphthol, Xylylnaphthol, Benzylnaphlhol,
Anthranol, Phenylmethylnaphthol, Phenanthrol,
Monomethyläther von Catechin, Phenoxyphenol,
Chlorphenyl und Hydroxyphenylsuifiden
in Betracht.
Geeignete Aldehyde sind: Aliphatische Aldehyde — Formaldehyd (wie Trioxymethylen), Acetaldehyd und
Aldol (/?-Hydroxybutyraldehyd); aromatische Aldehyde
— Benzaldehyd — und heterocyclische Aldehyde — Furfurol. Die Aldehyde können einen Substituenten
einschließlich Hydroxyl-, Halogen- und Nitrosubstituenten enthalten, kurz gesagt, in jeglichem Substituenten,
der nicht einen Hauptteil in der Reaktion ausmacht. Vorzugsweise werden jedoch aliphatische Aldehyde
angewendet, von denen Formaldehyd besonders bevorzugt ist.
Als Amine kommen solche in Betracht, die eine Aminogruppe enthalten, welche durch die Gegenwart
wenigstens eines aktiven Wasserstoffatoms gekennzeichnet ist. Solche Amine können nur primäre
Aminogruppen, nur sekundäre Aminogruppen oder sowohl primäre als auch sekundäre Aminogruppen
enthalten. Beispiele von geeigneten Aminen sind: Polyalkylpolyamine, Äthylendiamin, Propylendiamin
und Polyalkylenpolyamine (wie Diäthylentriamin und Triäthylentetramin), aromatische Amine, wie ortho-,
meta- und para-Phenylendiamin und Diaminoaphthaline; säuresubstituierte Polyalkylpolyamine, wie N-Acetyltetraäthylenpentamin
und die entsprechenden Formyl-, Propionyl-, Butyryl- und ähnliche N-substituierten
Verbindungen; und die entsprechenden daraus geformten cyclisierten Verbindungen, wie N-Alkylamine von
lmidazolidin und Pyrimidin. Sekundäre heterocyclische Amine, die durch die Anlagerung eines Wasserstoffatoms
am Stickstoffatom in der heterocyclischen Gruppe gekennzeichnet sind, können auch eingesetzt
werden. Beispiele von heterocyclischen Aminen sind:
Morpholin, Thiomorpholin, Pyrrol, Pyrrolin, Pyrrolidin, Indol, Pyrazol, Pyrazolin, Pyrazoüdin, Imidazol, Imidazolin,
lmidazolidin, Piperidin, Phenoxazin, Phenthiazin und ihre substituierten Analogen. Die Gruppen, die an
die Kohlenstoffatome dieser Amine gebunden sind, sind beispielsweise Alkyl, Aryl, Alkaryl, Aralkyl, Cycloalkyl
und die oben angegebenen Verbindungen.
Die Polyalkylphenole können dadurch hergestellt werden, daß man 0,1 bis 10 Mol eines Phenols mit 1 Mol
eines Polyalkylene in Gegenwart eines Alkylierungskatalysators, wie BF3 (einschließlich der Ätherat-, Phenolat-
oder Phosphatkomplexe), BF3- oder HCl-Gas AICI3
bei 80 bis 2500C umsetzt. Dieses Verfahren ist besonders wirksam, wenn es dadurch ausgeführt wird,
daß man 1 bis 1,5, insbesondere 1,25 Mol Phenol auf 1 Mol einer Polyalkylenverbindung in Gegenwart eines
BFj-PhenoIats bei 1500C umsetzt. Das Produkt wird
zweckmäßig in einem aromatischen Lösungsmittel gelöst und dann mit Wasser zur Entfernung der nicht
umgesetzten Komponenten gewaschen. Nach Filtrie-• rung und Entfernung des aromatischen Lösungsmittels
durch Destillation bleibt das Produkt in Form eines klaren viskosen Öls zurück.
Die Herstellung der alkylsubstituierten Phenole von hohem Molekulargewicht kann z. B. durch die Herstellung
von Polypropylphenol aus Phenol und Polypropylen mit einem BF3 · 2CeHsOH-Katalysator veranschaulicht
werden. Bei einem Beispiel wurde folgendes in einen mit Glas ausgekleideten Pfaulder-Kessel mit
einem Fassungsvermögen von etwa 1141 eingebracht.

Die Mischung wurde erhitzt und 4 Stunden lang bei 15O0C gerührt. Sie wurde dann auf 8O0C gekühlt und es
wurden 14 kg Toluol, 3,4 kg Butylalkohol und 34 kg destilliertes Wasser zugegeben, um das BF3 und das
nicht umgesetzte Phenol auszuwaschen. Danach wurde die Mischung in dem Kessel mit 5%iger wäßriger
KOH-Lösung gewaschen, um irgendwelches zurückbleibendes Phenol zu entfernen, dann mit 5%iger
wäßriger KCI-Lösung, um das nicht umgesetzte KOH zu neutralisieren, und schließlich dreimal mit destilliertem
Wasser bei einer Temperatur in der Nähe von 65° C, bis die Mischung neutral gegenüber Lackmus war.
Die gewaschene Mischung wurde durch einen Plattenfilter unter Verwendung von 0,34 kg Diatomeenerde
als Filterhilfe filtriert und dann wurden das Toluol und der Butylalkohol unter Vakuum (30 bis 40 mm) bei
1500C abgestreift. Das P-odukt, ein klares braunes viskoses öl, gab die folgende Analyse:

Das alkylsubstituierte Phenol von hohem Molekulargewicht
kann auch auf irgendeine andere geeignete Weise hergestellt werden.
Die Erfindung wird nachstehend anhand von Beispielen näher erläutert, in denen die Herstellung der
Mannich-Basen von hohem Molekulargewicht geschildert wird. Die Herstellung von Mannich-Basen ist an

Die Vorrichtung bestand aus einem l-Liter-4-Halsreaktionskolben,
der mit einem mechanischen Rührer, einem Rückflußkondensator, einem Thermometer,
einem Tropftrichter und später einem Stickstoffeinlaßrohr ausgestattet war.
Das Polypropylphenol wurde mit dem Mineralöl und dem Dimethylamin in den Kolben bei einer Temperatur
von 30°C eingebracht, und die Formaldehydlösung wurde tropfenweise durch den Tropftrichter zugegeben,
wobei dauernd gerührt wurde. Nach einer Stunde war die Temperatur auf 100°C gestiegen und wurde auf
dieser Höhe 3 Stunden lang gehalten, während der Tropftrichter durch ein Einlaßrohr erhitzt und Stickstoffgas
hindurchgeführt wurde. Die sich ergebende Mischung wurde nach Zusatz von 100 cm3 Toluol und
50 cm3 Butylalkohol dreimal mit heißem Wasser gewaschen, bis sie neutral gegenüber Lackmus war, um
das nicht umgesetzte Amin und den nicht umgesetzten Formaldehyd zu entfernen. Die Lösung wurde filtriert

Die Vorrichtung bestand aus einem 500-ml-4-Halsreaktionskolben,
der mit einem mechanischen Rührer, einem Rückflußkondensator, einem Thermometer,
einem Tropftrichter und später einem Stickstoffeinlaßrohr ausgestattet war.
Das Polypropylphenc! wurde mit dem Mineralöl und dem Dimethylaminopropylamin in den Kolben bei
Raumtemperatur eingebracht, und die Formaldehydlösung wurde tropfenweise durch den Tropftrichter
während einer Zeit von '/2 Stunde zugegeben, wobei dauernd gerührt wurde. Es bildete sich eine wolkige
Mischung. Die Temperatur stieg auf 50°C, und es wurden 150 cm3 Xylol zugegeben, während der
Tropftrichter durch ein Einlaßrohr ersetzt und Stickstoffgas hindurchgeführt wurde. Die sich ergebende
Mischung wurde 3 Stunden lang am Rückflußkühler gekocht und nach Abkühlen mit heißem Wasser
gewaschen, bis die Mischung neutral gegenüber Lackmus war, um nicht umgesetztes Amin zu entfernen.
Dann wurde das Xylol unter Vakuum (5 bis 10 mm) bei 200° C abgestreift. Das Produkt, ein klares hellbraunes

Die Brauchbarkeit der Schmiermittel gemäß der Erfindung als Motoröle ist durch eine Anzahl von
Vergleichsversuchen gezeigt worden, die mit dem Grundschmiermittel allein und mit dem Schmiermittel,
das mit geringeren Mengen der Mannich-Produkte gemischt war, ausgeführt wurden. Es wurden sowohl
Prüfstandsversuche als auch Motorenversuche angewendet.
Die Prüfstandsversuche bestanden aus der Schwefelsäure-Neutralisations-Prüfung
und der Brenztraubensäure-Dispersions-Prüfung.
Die Schwefelsäure-Neutralisations-Prüfung gibt ein Maß der Fähigkeit der Reinigungsmittelzusätze (Detergent-Zusätze)
zum Neutralisieren von starken Säuren, die in Motoren gebildet werden, welche mit Schwefel
enthaltenden Brenn- oder Treibstoffen arbeiten. H2SO4
wird mit einem erhitzten Gemisch aus dem Zusatzstoff und dem öl gemischt. Es wird davon eine Lösung in
Isooctan gebildet die dann zentrifugiert wird, um
Unlösliches abzutrennen. Es wird dann die optische Dichte der klaren Lösung gemessen. Von diesem Wert
wird die optische Dichte der ursprünglichen Zusatzstoffmischung, verdünnt mit Isooctan, zu einer entsprechenden Menge abgezogen. Die Differenz gibt die
optische Dichte der dispergierten H2SO4-Reaktionsprodukte. Die optische Dichte einer Acetonextraktion der
Isooctan-Öllösung wird dann bestimmt Die mittlere optische Dichte der ölisooctanlösung wird als die
optische Dichte des dispergierten H2SO4-Reaktionsprodukts
ausgedrückt Die mittlere Dichte der Acetonlösung
wird als die optische Dichte der nichtdispergierten H2SO4-Reaktionsprodukte ausgedrückt Die Gesamtheit dieser Werte oder jeder einzige allein wird bei der
Bewertung von Reinigungsmittelzusätzen benutzt
Die Brenztraubensäure-Dispersions-Prüfung gibt ein Maß des Dispergierungswertes von Zusatzstoffen und
dient dazu, die Leistung von Reinigungsmittelzusatzstoffen in Motoren vorauszusagen, die mit Brenn- oder
Treibstoffen von niedrigem Schwefelgehalt arbeiten. Wenn sie in Kombination mit den H2SO4-N eutralisa
tions-Prüfstandsarbeitsweisen angewendet wird, dient
sie dazu, die Leistung von Reinigungsmittelzusätzen bei Maschinen vorauszusagen, die mit Brenn- oder Treibstoffen mit hohem Schwefelgehalt arbeiten. Brenztraubensäure wird mit einem erhitzten Gemisch des
Zusatzstoffes und des Öls gemischt. Die Mischung wird mit Benzol verdünnt und zentrifugiert um unlösliche
Stoffe abzutrennen. Die unlöslichen Stoffe werden in
Aceton aufgelöst. Die optische Dichte der Öl-Benzol-Lösung
gibt das Gesamtausmaß an Farbe. Von diesem Wert wird die optische· Dichte des ursprünglichen
Zusatzstoffgemisches, verdünnt mit Benzol auf eine entsprechende Menge, abgezogen. Dieser korrigierte
Wert wird als die optische Dichte des dispergierten Brenztraubensäure-Polymerisats ausgedrückt. Die optische
Dichte der Acetonlösung wird als die optische Dichte des nichtdispergierten Brenztraubensäure-Polymerisats
ausgedrückt. Diese Werte werden bei der Bewertung der Reinigungsmittelzusätze angewendet.
Tabelle I faßt die Ergebnisse der Prüfstandsversuche zusammen. Bewertung: ]c höher der Prozentsatz der
Brenztraubensäure-Prüfungsergebnisse ist, um so besser ist der Zusatzstoff. Je niedriger der Wert der
Schwefelsäureprüfung ist, um so besser ist der Zusatzstoff.

Die angewendeten Motorenprüfungen waren di< L-I-Caterpillar-Prüfung und die Niedertempera tür-Ab
lagerungs-Prüfung. Das verwendete Grundöl bei dieser Prüfungen war ein S.A.E.-30-Straightqualitätsöl mi
einer S.U.V. von 64,1 bei 99°C. Die Tabelle II faßt di( Ergebnisse der Motorenprüfungen zusammen.
Die L-1-Caterpillar-Prüfung ist eine volle Prüfung, dii
dazu benutzt wird, um die Eigenschaften eines Öls mi
Bezug auf die Kolbenreinheit zu bestimmen. Das bei dei Prüfungen verwendete Dieselöl war ein öl mit hohen
einer Bremslast von 19,8 PS betrieben; die öltempera
tür beträgt 65° C und die Manteltemperatur 82° C
ist eine Technik zur Bestimmung der Niederieistungs Ablagerungs-Eigenschaften von Kurbelgehäuse
Schmiermitteln unter Verwendung eines CLR-Einzy lindermotors. Die Arbeitsweise umfaßt eine cyclisch
Manteltemperatur, wobei 3 Stunden bei 49°C um
1 Stunde bei 93°C bei insgesamt 180 Stunden gearbeite
wird Die Motorengeschwindigkeit wird konstant au 1800 U/min bei einer Belastung von 7 PS während de
ganzen Prüfung gehalten.

Die Kolbenbewertungsskala reicht von 0 bis 100, wobei 100 eine Bewertung für rein ist; bei den übrigen
Bewertungen, abgesehen von den beiden obengenannten, bezeichnet die Bewertung 0 rein oder sauber.
Diese Prüfungen zeigen die wesentlichen Verbesse rungen bei Schmiermitteln, die durch die Verwendung
der erfindungsgemäß erhältlichen Produkte erhalten werden können. Insbesondere sind die ausgezeichneten
Dispergierungseigenschaften dieser Mannich-Basen von hohem Molekulargewicht zu beachten.

Claims (3)
1) natürlichen, raffinierten oder synthetischen S ölen bzw. einer Mischung solcher öle mit
Schmierviskosität
2) Zusatzstoffen mit Dispergierwirkungen und gegebenenfalls
3) üblichen Hilfs-Zusatzstoffen ι ο
dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß das Schmiermittel als Komponente (2) ein Kondensationsprodukt
enthält, das durch Umsetzung eines alkylsubstituierten Phenols von hohem Molekulargewicht,
bei welchem der Alkylsubstituent ein Molekulargewicht von 600 bis 3000, insbesondere
750 bis 1200 hat, eines wenigstens ein aktives Wasserstoffatom aufweisenden Amins mit einer
HN <-Gruppe, und eines Aldehyds in einem molaren Verhältnis von alkylsubstituiertem Phenol:
Amin : Aldehyd von 1 :0,l bis 10:0,1 bis 10 hergestellt worden ist.
