Description
Diese Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zur Verbesserung der
Verv/itterungsbeständigkeit fester organischer Substrate, die
verschlechtert werden, wenn sie der Witterung ausgesetzt · werden, und speziell, wenn sie Ultraviolettlicht ausgesetzt
werden. ' - - .."-.,..
Die vorliegende Erfindung ist speziell anwendbar für die Verwendung mit thermoplastischen Polymeren, die normaierweise
einer Verschlechterung miterliegen, wenn sie dem Sonnenlicht
außgeaetzt^werden. Diese Verschlechterung ist in ihren frühen

Stadien durch das Zerbrechen der Polymerkette und die Bildung von Carboxylgruppen gekennzeichnet, ^erm diese Zersetzung
andauerd, bricht der Kunststoff und verliert Sehnfestigkeit bis zu dem Punkt eines mechanischen Versagens. Z.B. unterliegt
eine aus Kunststoff hergestellte elektrische Isolierung einer Versprödung, einem Anwachsen des Leistungsfaktors und einem
Verlust elektrischer Widerstandsfähigkeit, wenn sie an Stellen verwandt wird, die der Witterung ausgesetzt sind. Zusätzlich zu
diesem mechanischen Versagen unterliegen viele Kunststoffe eher
Verfärbung, wenn sie Ultraviolettlicht ausgesetzt werden.
Entsprechend liefert die vorliegende Erfindung ein Verfahren
zur Verbesserung der Verwitterungsbeständigkeit fester organischer Substrate, das darin besteht, daß man in dieae Substrate einen
Zusatzstoff einarbeitet, der aus einem Borat eines If, N-Bisec-alkyl-alkanolamins
oder N, H-Di-cycloalkyl-alkanolamins
besteht.
In einer besonders "bevorzugten Ausführungsform der Erfindung
werden die Verwitterungseigenschaften eines festen Polyolefins durch Einarbeitung eines Borats von N, N-Di-cyclohexyl-äthanolamin
verbessert.
Bei einer anderen stark bevorzugten Ausführungsform der Erfindung werden die Verwitterungseigenschaften eines festen Polyolefins
durch Einarbeitung eines Borats von N, IT-Di-sec-octyl-äthanolamin
verbessert. Im allgemeinen enthält die sec-Alkylgruppe

20 Kohlenstoffatome, obwohl, wenn erwünscht, jede Alkylgruppe

Alkanolaminen in dieser Ausführungsform sind demnach etwa F, IT-Bi-iaopropyläthariolamiii, IT, K-Di-sec-butyl-äthanolamin
und entsprechende Glieder dieser Reihe bis zu und einschließlich .der Verbindung IT, N-Di-sec-eicosyl-äthanolamin. Auch sehr geeignet
sind Glieder der Reihe entsprechender Verbindungen, in denen
der Äthanolaminrest durch diePröpanolamin- oder Butanolaminreste
und,wenn erwünscht, durch die Pentanolamin-, Hexanolamin-, Heptanol-
amin- oder Octanolaminreste ersetzt ist.
Im allgemeinen ist bevorzugt, daß die Alkylgruppen die gleichen
sind. Wenn erwünscht, können die Alkylgruppen jedoch auch verschieden
sein, doch sollten "beide von sekundärer Konfiguration
sein, wie z.B. durch die Verbindungen N-Isopropyl-N-sec-butyläthanolamin,
N-sec-Butyl-N-sec-hexyl-N-sec-octyl-äthanolamin
erläutert wird. Hier kann wiederum der Äthanolaminrest durch eine
Alkanolamingruppe mit bis zu 8 KoheInstoffatomen und vorzugsweise
bis zu 4 Kohlenstoffatomen ersetzt werden. Obwohl es bevorzugt ist, dai die Substituenten Alkylgruppen sind, können
sie auch Alkenylgruppen sein, was jedoch nicht notwendigerweise zu gleichwertigen Ergebnissen führen muß.
Wenn der Zusatzstoff aus einem Borat eines N, H-Dicycloalkylalkanolamins
besteht, sind andere bevorzugte spezielle" Verbindungen

N, IT-Dicyclododecyl-äthanolamin usw., sowie ähnlich
substituierte Verbindungen, in denen die Äthanolamingruppe durch eine Alkanolamingruppe mit 3 bis etwa 8 Kohlenstoffatomen ersetzt
ist.
Die Borate zur Verwendung in der vorliegenden Erfindung werden durch Borylierung der entsprechenden N, IT-Di-sec-alkyl-alkanol-·
amine und N, N-Di-cycloalkyl-alkanolamine. erhalten, die aus
irgendeiner geeigneten Quelle gewonnen werden. Einige dieser speziell substituierten Alkanolamine sind auf dem Markt erhältlich
oder können in irgendeiner geeigneten Weise hergestellt werden. In einem Verfahren wird das Alkanölamin einer
reduktiven Alkylierung mit einem Alkylketon oder einem Oycloalkylketon
unterworfen. Z,B. wird IT, N-Di-octyl^-äthanolamin
durch die reduktive Alkylierung von Äthanolamin mit Methylheptylketon, ithylpentylketon oder Propylbuty!keton hergestellt.
In ähnlicher Weise wird N, N-Dicyclohexyl-äthanolamin durch
die reduktive Alkylierung von Äthanolamin mit Cyclohexanon gewonnen. Selbstverständlich wird das Keton im Hinblick auf das
spezielle B", U-di-substituierte Äthanolamin, das erwünscht ist,
jeweils ausgewählt. Die reduktive Alkylierung wird in Gegenwart von Wasserstoff und einem geeigneten Katalysator für die
reduktive Alkylierung durchgeführt. Dabei wird jeder geeignete
Katalysator 'für die reduktive Alkylierung benutzt, einschließlich

jener Katalysatoren, die Nickel, Platin, Palladium und dergleichen
enthalten, wobei-sie vorzugsweise mit einem geeigneten Trägermaterial
zusammengesetzt sind. Bin speziell ."bevorzugter Katalysator
besteht aus einer Zusammensetzung von etwa o,1 bis
2 Gew.-i> Platin mit Tonerde, die etwa 0,01 bis etwa T Gew.-#
Fluor und /oder Chlor enthalten kann oder auch nicht enthalten kann. Bin anderer geeigneter Katalysator besteht aus eiiem
innigen Gemisch von Kupferoxyd, Chromoxyd und Bariumoxyd. Bei
Verwendung des Platinkatalysators liegt die Temperatur im
allgemeinen im Bereich von etwa 93 ^i0 etwa 26O0C und der
Wasserstoff druck zwischen etwa 6,8 und 204· Atmosphären oder mehr.
Während das ΪΓ, U-Di-sec-alkyl-alkanolamin und N, N-Dicycloalkylalkanolamin
durch die reduktive Alkylierung des entsprechenden Alkanolamine, wie oben beschrieben, hergestellt werden können,
wird das entsprechende N, N-Di-sec-alkylamin oder N, N-Dicycloalkylamin
in einer anderen und bevorzugten Verfahrensweise der
Oxyalkylenierung unterzogenund mit einem Mol ithylenoxyd,
Propylenoxyd, Butylenoxyd oder eines anderen erwünschten
Alkylenoxyds umgesetzt. Diese Umsetzung ist leicht durchzuführen, wenn man das N, N-disubstituierte Amin in einer
Reaktionszone einführt und das Alkylenoxyd in Kontakt mit dem Amin durchleitet. Vorzugsweise werden wenigstens gleiche
molare Anteile von Alkylenoxyd und Amin verwandt, obwohl ein Überschuß eines der beiden benutzt werden kann, um eine vollständige
Umsetzung zu gewährleisten. Die Umsetzung erfolgt

leicht bei einer niedrigen Temperatur, die im Bereich von Raumtemperatur bis 15O0O liegt, sowie in Abwesenheit
eines Katalysators.
Bs ist ein wesentliches Erfordernis der vorliegenden Erfindung,
daß das Alkanolamin ein Ή, N-'disubstituiertes
Alkanolamin ist und daß diese Substituenten sekundäre Alkylgruppen oder sekundären Alkylgruppen äquivalente
Gruppen sind. Es sei festgestellt, daß der Cyclohexylsubstutuent
einem sekundären Alkylsubstituenten dadurch entspricht, daß das an den Stickstoff gebundene Kohlenstoffatom
selbst an zwei weitere Kohlenstoffatome gebunden ist. In einer anderen Ausführungsform können die
speziell substituierten Alkanolamine eine sekundäre Alkylgruppe
und eine Cyeloalkylgruppe besitzen, wie z.B. in den Verbindungen N-Isopropyl-N-cyclohexyl-äthanolamin,
N-sec-Butyl-N-cyelohexyl-äthanolamin, N-sec-Pentyl-N-cyclohexyl-äthanolamin,
N-sec-Heptyl-N-cyclohexyl-äthanolamin,
N-sec-Octyl-BT-cyclohexyl-äthanolamin usw. sowie in entsprechenden
Verbindungen, in denen der Äthanolaminrest durch einen Alkanolaminrest mit 3 bis etwa 8 Kohlenstoffatomen
ersetzt ist.
Das Borat des substituierten Alkanolamine wird in irgendeiner geeigneten Weise und mit Hilfe irgend eines geeigneten
Borylierungsmittels hergestellt. Ein speziell bevorzugtes Borylierungsmittel ist Borsäure. Andere sind etwa Trialkyl-

"borate, in denen die Alkylgruppen vorzugsweise je 1 bis 4
Kohlenstoffatome enthalten. Bei der Verwendung der letzteren
Borylierungsmittel wird die Umsetzung durch Transveresterung bewirkt, und entsprechend ist dabei die Verwendung von
Trialkylboraten mit einem Gehalt von mehr als vier Kohlenstoffatomen
in jeder Alkylgruppe nicht von Vorteil, obwphl höher siedende Trialkylborate verwandt werden können,, wenn
sie zufriedenstellen· und wenn daraus besondere Vorteile
erwachsen. Noch andere Borylierungsmittel sind etwa Alkylborsäure,
Bialkylborsäure, Boroxyd, Borsäurekomplex, Cycloalkylborsäure,
Dicycloalkylborsäure, Arylborsäure, Diarylborsäure oder Substitutionsprodukte dieser Verbindungen
mit Alkoxy-, Alkyl- und/oder Halagengruppen.
Die Umsetzung des Borylierungsmittels und des Alkanolamine wird in irgendeiner geeigneten Weise durchgeführt. Die
Orthoborate werden durch Erhitzen und Rühren der Reaktionspartner bei einer Temperatur "bris zur etwa 100°0 und im
Bereich von etwa 60 bis etwa 1000C bei Verwendung von Borsäure
gebildet. Die Metaborate werden bei Temperaturen oberhalb 1000C hergestellt und können demnach im Bereich
von etwa 100 bis etwa 20O0C oder mehr gewonnen werden.
Die höhere Temperatur von etwa 100 bis 2000C wird angewandt,
wenn Trialkylborate benutzt werden, um die Transveresterung zu bewirken. Bei einer Methode werden die Reaktionspartner
in Gegenwart eines geeigneten Lösungsmittels unter Rückfluß gekocht. Lösungsmittel, die vorteilhafterweise verwandt
werden köiien, sind etwa aromatische Kohlenwasserstoffe

einschließlich Benzol, Toluol, Xylol, Äthylbenzol, Cumol
oder dergleichen sowie Mischungen derselben. Auch n-Hexan, n-Heptan, n-Octan, η-Dekan, n-Dodecan und chlorierte Kohlenwasserstoffe
können benutzt werden. In der Tat kann jedes mit fasse^zeotrope Gemische bildende Lösungsmittel, das
mit Borsäure oder Alkanolamin nicht reagiert, -xabB&b verwandt
werden. Die Benutzung eines Lösungsmittels ist speziell bevorzugt, wenn Borsäure als das Borylierungsmittel eingesetzt
wird. Wenn ein Trialkylborat als das Borylierungsmittel benutzt
wird, iann das Lösungsmittel weggelassen werden. Während ein Katalysator normalerweise nicht erforderlich ist,
kann ein Katalysator verwandt werden, wenn man Trialkylborat
einsetzt. Geeignete Katalysatoren sind etwa Natriumhydrogensulfat, Kaliumhydrogensulfat, Zinnoxyd, Polyalkyltitanderivate,
Alkoxytitanderivate, Trialkyl- und Trialkoxyaluminium. Das
Borylierungsmittel und Alkanolamin werden allgemein in einem Molverhältnis im Bereich von etwa 0,3 bis 1 und speziell von
etwa 0,5 bis 1 Mol Borylierungsmittel pro Mol Alkanolamin verwandt.
Bei einer anderen Methode wird ein Alkohol einschließlich aliphatischer oder aromatischer Alkohole oder ein Merkaptan
einschließlich aliphatischer oder aromatischer Merkaptane in die Reaktion eingesetzt, um ein oder zwei Valenzen des
Bors abzusättigen. Wenn ein Alkohol oder Merkaptan verwafit wird, benutzt man diese im allgemeinen in einer Menge
von etwa 0,5 bis 2 Mol desselben pro Mol Alkanolamin.

Irgendeiner der aliphatischen Alkohole in der Reihe von
Methanol bis Eicosanol ist geeignet. Bevorzugte aromatische
Alkohole sind etwa Phenol, Kresol und Xylenol oder diejenigen, die Alkoxy- oder Halogensubstituenten besitzen. Bevorzugte
Merkaptane sind etwa Butylmerkaptan, Pentylmerkaptan, Hexylmerkaptan,
Heptylmerkaptij/a, Ootylmerkaptan, Nonylmerkaptan,
Decylmerkaptan, Undecylmerkaptan und Dodecylmerkaptan sowie
Thfcphenol, Thiokresol und Thioxylenol.
Wie oben ausgeführt, läßt sich die Umsetzung leicht durch Erhitzen und Rückflußkochen des Borylierungsmittels und
Alkanolamine mit oder ohne lösungsmittel und/oder Katalysator, wenn erforderlich, durchführen. Das Rückflußkochen wird fortgesetzt,
bis die erforderliche Wassermenge aufgefangen wurde, wenn Borsäure eingesetzt wird, oder bis die erforderliche
Alkoholmenge augefangen wurde, wenn Trialkylborat eingesetzt
wird. Nach Beendigung der Umsetzung werden das lösungsmittel und Alkohol, falls solcher vorhanden, durch Vakuumdestillation
entfernt. Das Alkanolaminborat wird als eine Flüssigkeit gewonnen
und als solche verwandt oder, wenn erwünscht, kann das Produkt in dem lösungsmittel gehalten und diese lösung
benutzt werden. Als andere Alternative kann das Produkt als eine lösung in einem anderen lösungsmittel gewonnen und in
dieser Weise verwandt werden.
Die Struktur des Boratproduktes variiert mit den Verhältder verwandten Reaktionspartner, mit dem speziellen

Borylierungsmittel und damit, ob zusätzlich ein Alkohol oder Merkaptan verwandt wird oder nicht. Wenn z.B. drei Mol N, N-Di-cyclohexyl-äthanolamin
mit einem Mol Borsäure umgesetzt werden, wird angenommen, daß der Triester gebildet wird, intern
alle Valenzen des Bor durch die N, N-Dircyclohexyl-aminoäthoxygruppe
abgesättigt sind, die sich durch die Freisetzung von Wasser bildet. Wenn gleiche Molverhältnisse von N, N-Dicyclohexyl-äthanolamin
und Borsäure bei einer höheren Temperatur umgesetzt werden, bildet sich Metaborat. Wenn die Umsetzung
unter Verwendung eines zusätzlichen Alkohols oder Merkaptane, zusätzlich zu dem Alkanolamin, durchgeführt wird,
ist -das resultierende Borat ein gemischtes Borat, in dem 1 oder 2 der Borvalenzen durch das Alkanolamin abgesättigt
sind, während die restliche Valenz oder die restlichen Valenzen des Bors du-rch den Alkohol oder das Merkaptan abgesättigt
sind. Wenn man ein Trialkylborat als das Borylierungsmittel benutzt, erfolgt entweder eine vollständige oder eine
teilweise Transveresterung je nach den Mengenverhältnissen
der Reaktionspartner und den Verfahrensbedingungen.
Aus der obigen Däeussion kann ersehen werden, daß die
genaue Struktur des Borates variieren kann und ebenfalls, daß das Produkt aus einer Mischung von Verbindungen bestehen
kann. Selbstverständlich kann irgeneine der verschiedenen Boratverbindungen, die oben beschrieben wurden, nach der
vorliegenden Erfindung benutzt werden, doch sind ebenso

selbstverständlich die verschiedenen Zusatzstoffe nicht notwendigerweise in ihrer Wirksamkeit in den gleichen oder
verschiedenen Substraten untereinander äquivalent.
Wie oben festgestellt, werden die Zusatzstoffe der vorliegenden
Erfindung zur Verbesserung der Verwitterungseigenschaften fester organischer Sutyrate benutzt. Obwohl
der Mechanismus, nach dem diese Verbindungen funktionieren, nicht vollständi klar ist, dienen diese Verbindungen dazu,
Substrate zu schützen, die einer Oxydation durch Ultraviolettlich/bunterliegen.
Außerdem besitzen diese Verbindungen antistatische Eigenschaften und adhäsionsverbessernde Eigenschaften.
Zusätzlich sind die Verbindungen als Antioxydantien und Peroxydzersetzer sowie Bakterizide, speziell für Petroleumprodukte,
wirksam. Auch können sie als Färbstoffbräger in Kunststoffen
dienen. Weiterhin sind sie in den meisten Substraten leicht löslich.
Unter den Substraten, die normalerweise der Witterung ausgesetzt sind, befinden sich Kunststoffe. Außerdem können die
Zusatzstoffe nach der vorliegenden Erfindung in Farben, Lacken
und anderen Überzügen zu Anwendung kommen.
Beispiele von Kuntstoffen, die durch die neuen Verbindungen nach der vorliegenden Erfindung stabilisiert werden können,
sind etwa Polyolefine und speziell Polyäthylen, Polypropylen, Polybutylen, gemischte Äthylen-Propylen-Polymere, gemischte

Äthylen-Butylen-Polymere, gemischte Propylen-Butylen-Polymere, gemischte Styrol-Äthylen-Polymere, gemischte Styrol-Propylen-Polymere
usw. . Die festen Pel Olefinpolymere besitzen eine
Vielzahl von Verwendungamöglichkeiten, wie als elektrische
Isolierung, leichte Gartenmöbel, Zeltplanen, Decken für Gewächshäuser
usw. . In vielen dieser Anwendungsgebiete wird das feste Olefinpolymer dem Sonnenlicht und der Luft ausgesetzt.
Ein anderer handelsüblicher Kunststoff ist Polystyrol, das bei der Herstellung geformter oder bearbeiteter Teile für
Automobilfüllungen, geformte Haushaltgegenstände usw. in
vielen Anwendungsgebieten benutzt wird. Ein ernsthafter Nachteil von Polystyrol ist dessen Neigung sich zu zersetzen, wenn es
unmittelbarem Sonnenlicht und Luft während längerer Zeit ausgesetzt wird. Ein anderer handelsüblicher Kunststoff, der
einer Verwitterungszersetzung unterliegt, ist die breite Klasse der Vinylharze, die von Monomeren, wie VinyChlorid, Vinylacetat,
Vinylidenchlorid usw. hergeleitet werden. Polyvinylchloridkunststoffe
werden sehr viel benutzt. Andere Vinylharze sind etwa Mischpolymere von Vinylchlorid mit Acrylnitril, Methacrylnitril,
Vinylidenchlorid, Alkylacrylaten, Alkylmetha/crylaten,
Alkylmaleaten, Alkylfumaraten, Polyvinylbutyral und Mischungen
derselben.
Andere handelsübliche Kunststoffe sind Textilien und umfassen etwa Nylon (Polyamid), Perlon L oder 6-Uylon (Polyamid), Dacron
(Terephtalsäure und Äthylenglykol), Orion (Polyacrylnitril),

Dynel (Mischpolymer von Acrylnitril und Vinylchlorid),
Acrilsnftnit Vinylacetat modifiziertes Polyacrylnitril),
Saran (Dipolymer von Vinylidenchlorid und Vinylchlorid) und Kunstseide. Bei diesen erfolgt die Verschlechterung
wiederum infolge von Ultraviolettlicht und von Oxydation.
Erläuternde Beispiele noch anderer fester Polymerer sind Polycarbonate, Phenol-Formaldehydharze, Harnstoff-Formi.Idöuyäliarze,
Melamin-LOMialdehydharze, Acryloidkunststoffe,
die von Methyl-, Äthyl- und höheren Alkylacrylaten und
Methacrylaten als in der Polymerisation.verwandten Monomeren hergeleitet sind. Andere Polymere sind etwa
Polyacetale, speziell Polyformaldehyde, wie "Delrin" und
"Oelcon". Noch andere Substrate sind Überzüge auf Vinyl-,
Acryl- und Nitrocellulosebasis, speziell Celluloseacetat,
Celluloseacetatbutyrab und Äthylcellulose. Noch andere
Substrate sind Polyester einschließlich linearen oder quervernetzten, verstärkten Polyestern, Laminatpolyestern,
verschiedenen Latices, Lacken, Alkylen, trocknenden ölen,
rostverhindernden Beschichtungen, Wachsen, Poliermitteln, anderen Beschichtungen, Beizen, Pigmenten, Farbstoffen und
Textilnachbehandlungsmitteln. :
Selbstverständlich können die Kunststoffe zu irgendeinem ,
Endprodukt weiterverarbeitet, werden, wie z.B. zu Formungen,.
Spritzgußteilen, 'Fasern, Filmen, Folien, Stäben, Röhren oder
anderen Formen.

Kautschuk besteht aus Polymeren konjugierter 1,3-Diene und'
ist entweder ein Polymer desselben oder ein Mischpolymer desselben mit anderen polymerisierbaren Verbindungen. Und
dieser Kautschuk, sowohl der natürliche wie auch der synthetische, fällt unter den Begriff der festen Polymeren
nach dieser Erfindung. Synthetische Kautsehukarten sind
etwa^BR-Kautschuk (Mischpolymer von Butadien und Styrol), Buna A (Mischpolymer von Butadien und Acrylnitril), Butylkautschuk
(Mischpolymer von Butadien und Isobutylen), Neoprenkautschuk (Chloroprenpolymer), Thiokol-Kaut3chuk
(Polysulfid) und Silikonkautschuk. Die natürlichen Kautschukarten sind etwa Heveagummi, Kautschuk, Balata, Guttapercha
usw. Es ist bekannt, daß Kautschuk normalerweise durch Sauerstoff und direkte Einwirkung von Sonnenlicht während
längerer Zeit zerstört wird.
Selbstverständlich kann die vorliegende Erfindung für jedes feste organische Substrat verwandt werden, das verschlechtert
wird, wenn es Ultraviolettlicht, Oxydation, Hitze oder anderen Witterungsbedingungen ausgesetzt wird.
Ss ist oft vorteilhaft, die Verbindungen der vorliegenden
Erfindung zusammen mit anderen Zusatzstoffen zu verwenden. Z.B. erhält man speziell verbesserte Ergebnisse in der
Stabilisierung von Kunststoffen infolge eines offensichtlichen iyynergistischen Effektes, wenn die Verbindung nach, der vor-

liegenden Erfindung im Gemisch mit einem phenolisshen
Antioxydans einschließlich speziell 2,6-Ditertiärbutyl-4-methylphenol
benutzt wird. Andere Inhibitoren, die verwandt werden können>
sind im allgemeinen vom Phenoltyp oder Amintyp. Der zusätzliche Inhibitor kann in einer Konzentration
von etwa 1 bis 75 Gew.-^ der Verbindungen nach der vorliegenden
Erfindung eingesetzt werden, und allgemein wird er in einer Konzentration im Bereich von etwa o,oo1 bis etwa 3 i° und
speziell zwischen etwa 0,01 und 2 Gew.~$ des Substrates
verwandt. ITach der vorliegenden Erfindung wird der Zusatzstoff
in einer stabilisierenden Konzentration benutzt, die von dem jeweiligen Substrat abhängt. Der Zusatzstoff kann
in einer Konzentration so niedrig wie ο,οοοΐ $>
und in einer Konzentration so hoch wie 25 <?° eingesetzt werden, doch
wie-der im allgemeinen in einer Konzentration von etwa o,o1
Gew.-^ bis etwa 5 Gew.-^ des Substrates benutzt. Der Zusatzstoff
wird in das Substrat in irgendeinä· geeigneten Weise
eingearbeitet. Ein Einarbeiten in einen festen Kunststoff erhält man leicht durch Zugabe des Zusatzstoffes zu der
heißen "Schmelze unter Rühren, allgemein in einem Mischer, Extruder oder einer anderen Anlage. Wenn der Zusatzstoff
zu einer Farbe zugesetzt wird, wird er unter heftigem Rühren eingearbeitet.
Der Zusatzstoff nach der vorliegenden Erfindung Ijann als solcher
oder in Form einer Lösung in einem geeigneten Lösungsmittel,

wie Alkoholen und speziell Methanol, Äthanol. Propanol oder Butanol, Kohlenwasserstoffen und speziell Benzol, Toluol,
Xylol, Cumol und Dekalin verwandt werden.
Me folgenden Beispiele dienen der weiteren Erläuterung i/er Erfindung und der-en Brauchbarkeit.
Einige verschiedene Zusatzstoffe wurden folgendermaßen hergestellt:
Zusatzstoff Nr. 1 wurde durch die Umsetzung von 3 Mol
N, N-Di-cyclohexyl-äthanolamin mit einem Mol Borsäure gewonnen.
Speziell wurden 68,4 g (0,3 Mol) N, N-Di-cyclohexyläthanolamin
und 6,18 g (0,1 Mol) Borsäure in Gegenwart von 100 g Benzol bei einer Temperatur von etwa 85°C unter Rückfluß
gekocht, bis eine Gesamtmenge von 5 cm Wasser aufgefangen war. Nach Beendigung der Umsetzung wurde das Benzol
durch Destillation bei einer Temperatur von etwa 170 C bei o,4 mm Hg absolut entfernt. Das Produkt wurde als eine
Flüssigkeit mit einem Stickstoffgehalt von 4,29 mÄq/g, einer
Säurezahl von 0,008 mÄq/g und einem Borgehalt von 1,42 Gew.-/o
gewonnen. Dies entspricht dem theoretischen Borgehalt von 1,58 Gew.-^ für die Verbindung Tris-(N, N-Di-cyclohexylaminoäthoxy)-borat
mit der Formel:

Zusatzstoff Nr. 2 war ein Gemisch, von dem angenommen wird, daß es die gleiche Verbindung wie Zusatzstoff Nr. 1 enthält.
Die Herstellung erfolgte durch Rückflußkorn von 67,5 g (0,3 Mol) N, N-Di-cyclohexyl-äthanolamin und 25 g (0,1 Mol
+ 10 $) Tri-n-butylborat bei einer Temperatur im Bereich
von 150 bis 203°0, bis eine Gesamtmenge von 20 g Butanol aufgefangen war (das Butanol wurde durch die Transveresterung
gebildet). Das Reaktionsprodukt wurde bei einer Temperatur von etwa 1590O unter einem Druck von 18 mm Hg abs. destilliert.
Das Produkt wurde als eine Flüssigkeit mit einem Borgehalt von 1,72 Gew.-$ gewonnen. Es sei bemerkt, daß ein 10 -$-iger
Überschuß an Tri-n-butylbarat in diesem Versuch verwandt wurde
und daß auf der Grundlage, daß der Überschuß während der Umsetzung eine Qhelierung eingeht, der theoritische ^-Gehalt
an Bor des gemischten Reaktionsproduktes mit 1,69 Gew.-Φ
berechnet wird.
Zusatzstoff Nr. 3 war ein Metaborat, das durch Umsetzung von IJ, N-Di-cyclohexyl-äthanolamin und Borsäure gebildet
wurde. Diese Umsetzung wurde durch Erhitzen und Rückflußkochen von 33,75 g (0,15 Mol) N, N-Di-cyclohexyl-äthanolamin
und 9,28 g (0,15 Mol) Borsäure in Gegenwart von 100 g Benzol durchgeführt. Die Reaktionstemperatur lag oberhalb 90 C,

und eine Gesamtmenge von 4,9 cm V/asser wurde aufgefangen.

Das Produkt war ein Feststoff mit einem Borgehalt von 4,05 Gew.-was
einem theoretischen Borgehalt von 4,15 Gew.-fo für das
Metaborat entspricht, das durch die Umsetzung gleicher

Molmengen von H, H-Di-cyelohexyl-äthanolamin und Borsäure
gebildet wird.
Zusatzstoff Hr. 4 wurde durch Erhitzen und Rückflußkochen von 22,5 g (0,1 Mol) H, H-Di-cyclohexyl-äthanolamin und
8,59 g (0,05 Mol) Honylborsäure in Gegenwart von 50 g
Benzol hergestellt» Eine Gesamtmenge von 1,4 cm Wasser wurde aufgefangen. Das Produkt wurde im Vakuum bei einer
Temperatur von 115°C und bei 18 mm Hg abs. destilliert. Das Produkt wurde als der IT, H-Di-cyclohexyl-äthoxydiester
der Honylborsäure angesehen. Bei der Analyse fand man 1,71 Gew.~$ Bor.
Zusatzstoff Hr. 5 wurde durch Erhitzen und Rückflußkochen von 33,7 g (0,118 Mol) N, H-Di-(l-methylheptyl)-äfchanolamin
und 2,43 g (0,039 Mol) Borsäure in 100 g Benzol bei einer Temperatur von etwa 85°C hergestellt. Hach Beendigung der
Umsetzung und Entfernung des Benzols durch Vakuumdestillation bei 1450C und 18 mm Hg abs. wurde das Produkt als Flüssigkeit
mit einem Borgehalt von 1,30 Gew.-$ gewonnen. Dies stimmt gut mit dem theoretischen Borgehalt von 1,25 Gew.-i& des
folgenden Triesters überein, der aus 3 Mol H, ET-Di-secoctyl-äthanolamin
mit 1 Mol Borsäure gebildet würde:

Zusatzstoff IJr. 6 wurde durch Erhitzen und Rückflußkochen
von 2 Mol N, N-Di-isopropyl-propanolamin, einem Mol Isooctylalkohol
und einem Mol Borsäure in Gegenwart von 200 g Benzol gewonnen. Das Produkt wurde in der gleichen Weise wie in
den vorausgehenden Versuchen ausgearbeitet. ' ■
Zusatzstoff Nr. 7 wurde durch Erhitzen und Rückflußkochen eines Gemisches von einem Mol Borsäure, 2 Mol N, N-Di-cyclohexyl-propanolamin
und 1 Mol 2,6-Ditertiärbutyl-4-methylphenol in Gegenwart on Benzollösungsmittel, bis die erwünschte
Wassermenge aufgefangen war, bereitet. Das Produkt wurde in der üblichen Weise ausgearbeitet.
Zusatzstoff Nr. 8 wurde durch Erhitzen und Rückflußkochen eines Gemisches von 1 Mol Borsäure, 2 Mol N, N-Di-sechexyl-äthanolamin
und 1 Mol Butylmerkaptan in Gegenwart von Benzol, bis zu Beendigung der Reaktion hergestellt.
Das Produkt wird bei üblichem Aufarbeiten als Flüssigkeit gewonnen und kann als solche oder als Lösung in einem
geeignetem Lösungsmittel benutzt v/erden.
Einige der vorausgehenden Zusatzstoffe wurden in einem festen Polypropylen mit den folgenden Eigenschaften untersucht

Das Polypropylen wurde auf einer beheizten Zweiwalzenmühle
herkömmlicher handelsüblicher Bauart vermählen, und der Zusatzstoff wurde, wenn ein solcher verwandt wurde, während
des Vermahlens in die Probe eingearbeitet. Die Proben wurden zu Folien von etwa o,43 mm (17 mil) Dicke gepreßt und zu
Stücken von etwa 3,5 x 3,x8cm zerschnitten. Die Stücke wurden in Kunststoffhalter eingefügt, auf einer rotierenden Trommel
befestigt und den Strahlen eines Koflenbogens bei etwa 520C
ausgesetzt. Die Proben wurden periodisch durch Infrarotanalyse
geprüft, um die Carbonylbande bei 1715 cm zu bestimmen, was
als "Carbonylzahl" bezeichnet wird. Eine höhere Intensität der
Carbonylbande zeigt eine höhere Carbony!konzentration (ausge-

drückt als Carbonylzahl) an und entsprechend eine erhöhte
Zersetzung.
Eine Probe des Polypropylens ohne InhaMtor ergab eine
Carbonylzahl grüßer als 1000 innerhalb von 120 Stunden Behandlungszeit. Eine andere Probe des gleichen Polypropylens
mit einem Gehalt von 0,15 Gew.-^ 2,6-Ditertiärbutyl-4-methylphenol
ergab eine Öarbonylzahl über 1000 in 360 Stunden Behandlungszeit.
Eine weiter Probe des festen Polypropylens mit einem Gehalt von 1 Gew.-$ des Zusatzstoffes Ure 1 und 0,15 Gew,-$ 2,6-Mtertiärbutyl-4-methylphenol
wurde in gleicher Weise ausgewertet. Nach etwa 1600 Stunden behandlungszeit hatte
sich die Carbonylzahl gegenüber dem ursprünglichen Wert von 165 nicht verändert, und nach 1900 Stunden war die
Carbonylzahl lediglich auf etwa 250 gestiegen. Darüber hinaus blieb die Probe klar und zeigte keine Verfärbung.
Proben von festem Polypropylenkunststoff (mit und ohne Zusatzstoffe)
wurden ebenfalls auf ihre physikalischen Eigenschaften geprüft, nachdem sie wie in Beispiel 1 besehrieben
behandelt worden waren. Proben in Stäbchenform (2,5 cm Breite, 11,1 cm Länge und 5,1 mm Dicke, wobei der Hals 2,5 cm lang
und 0,64 cm breit war) wurden den Strahlen eines Kohlenbogens
in der beschriebenen Weise ausgesetzt, und dann wurden die physikalischen Eigenschaften in einem Instron-Universaltester

bestimmt. In dem Tester wird die Stäbchenprobe an der
Spitze und am Boden fest eingespannt, und ein nach unter gerichteter Zug wird angelegt, der eine konstante Dehnung
von 51 nun (2 inch) pro Minute hervorruft. Die folgenden
Daten wurden erhalten: (1) Die prozentuale Dehnung bis zum Bruch, (2) die Dehnfestigkeit, ausgedrückt als die
Kraft in Gramm pro cm , bei der der Bruch eintritt, (3)
2 die Zugfestigkeit, die die Kraft in Gramm pro cm ist, die erforderlich ist, um eine fortgesetzte Dehnung nach Überschreiten
der Streckgrenze bewirkt, und (4) der Elastizitäts-
modul, der ebenfalls in Gramm pro cm ausgedrückt ist. Die
Daten in der folgenden Tabelle sind die Ergebnisse solcher Bestimmungen für (1.) eine Probe des Polypropylens ohne
Zusatzstoff und (2.) eine Probe des Polypropylens mit einem Gehalt von 1 Gew.-^ des Zusatzstoffes Hr. 1 und o,15 Gew.-$
2,6-Ditertiärbutyl-4-methylphenol. In jedem Fall erhält man
die Daten vor der Behandlung und nach 480 Stunden der Behandlung. Die den Zusatzstoff enthaltene Probe wurde auch nach 720 Stunden
Behandlungszeit bewertet.

Aus den Daten sieht man, daß die Kontrollprobe keine meßbare Dehnfestigkeit besaß und nach 480-stündiger
Behandlung keine Möglichkeit einer Dehnung hatte. Im Gegensatz dazu behielt die den Zusatzstoff Nr. 1 enthaltende
Probe noch einen beachtlichen Teil dieser erwünschten physikalischen Eigenschaften, sogar nach 720-stündiger
Behandlung·
Der Zusatzstoff Nr. 5 wurde auch in einer anderen Probe des festen Polypropylens und in der gleichen Weise wie
oben beschrieben ausgewertet. Diese Probe besaß nach Behandlung während 1080 Stunden eine Carbonylzahl von nur
183. Außerdem blieb die Probe klar und zeigte keine Verfärbung
.
Der Kunststoff dieses Beispiels ist festes Polyäthylen von hoher Dichte, das im Handel unter dem Namen "Fortiflex"
von der Oelanese Corporation of America bezogen werden kann. Proben mit und ohne Zusatzstoffe wurden in Stücke geschnitim
und in der oben beschriebenen Weise ausgewertet. Eine Probe dieses Polyäthylens ohne Inhibitor zeigte ein einwachsen
der Carbonylzahl von 28 auf 855 nach 624 Stunden Behandlungszeit. Demgegenüber ergab eine andere Probe des Polyäthylens
mit einem Gehalt von einem Gewichtsprozent des Zusatzstoffes

Nr. 3 eine Carbonylzahl von nicht mehr als 800 in einer
wesentlich längeren Zeit der Behandlung.
Der Zusatzstoff Ur. 4 wurde in einer Konzentration von
1 Gew.-^ in Polystyrol eingearbeitet und verhinderte dadurch
eine Verschlechterung des Polystyrols, wenn dieses zur Witterung ausgesetzt wurde.
Der Zusatzstoff Nr. 6 wurde in Polyvinylchloridkunststoff
eingearbeitet, indem der Kunststoff zum Teil geschmolzen und der Zusatzstoff in die heiße Schmelze in einer Konzentration
von einem Gewichtsprozent eingearbeitet wurde. Bine VErschlechterung
des Polyvi&ylehloridkunststoffes durch Ultraviolettlieht
wurde wesentlich herabgesetzt.

Claims (10)
- Patentansprüche1J Verfahren zur Verbesserung der Verwitterungsbeständigkeit eines festen organischen Substrates, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man ein Borat eines Ii, H-Di-see-älkylalkanolamins oder N, N-Di-cycloalkylalkanolamins in das Substrat einarbeitet.
- 2. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daßman ein Borat von N, If-Di-cyclohexyl-äthanolamin verwendet.
- 3. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man ein Borat von F, H-Di-sec-octyl-äthanolamin verwendet.
- 4. Verfahren nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 3, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man das Borat in das. organische Substrat in einer Konzentration im Bereich von o,0001 bis 25 Gew.-#, vorzugsweise im Bereich von o,o1 bis
- 5 Gew.-^ des organischen Substrates einarbeitet.ay5· Verfahren nach Anspruch Ibis 4, dadurch gekennzeichnet, ο^ daß man das Borat in einen Polyolefinkunststoff einarbeitet.
- 6. Verfahren nach Anspruch 5» dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß mandas Borat in einen Polyäthylen- «ad oder Polypropylen-kunststoff einarbeitet.
- 7. Verfahren nach Anspruch Ibis 4, dadurch gekennzeichnet,daß man das Borat in einen Polystyrolkunststoff einarbeitet,- 27 -■— 27 —
- 8, Verfahren nach Anspruch 1 bis 4·» dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man das Borat in einen Polyvinylchloridkunststoff einarbeitet.
- 9. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1 bis 8, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man in das organische Substrat ein Gemisch einarbeitet, dair das Borat und 0,01 bis 2 Gew.-^, bezogen auf das Substrat, eines phenolischen Inhibitors enthält.
- 10. Verwitterungsbeständiges festes organisches Substrat, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß es ein Borat eines N, N-Bisec-alkyl-alkanolamins oder N, N-Di-cyclohexyl-alkanolamin als Stabilisator enthält.909824/126-7
