Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft die Verwendung gewisser substituierter Benztriazole als Korrosionsschutzmittel für Kupfer und Kupferlegierungen und
als Deaktivierungsmittel für derartige Metalle.
Es wurde gefunden, daß substituierte Benztriazole der Formel I

worin R eine Alkylgruppe mit 2 bis 20 Kohlenstoffatomen oder eine Alkanoylaminogruppe mit 3 bis
20 Kohlenstoffatomen bedeutet, als korrosionshemmende und metalldeaktivierende Mittel für Kupfer
und Kupferlegierungen wirken.
Bedeutet in der Formel I der Substituent R eine Alkylgruppe, so ist diese beispielsweise eine Äthyl-,
n-Propyl-, Isopropyl-, η-Butyl-, Isobutyl-, tert.-Butyl-, n-Octyl-, n-Decyl-, Octadecyl- oder Eikosylgruppe.
Bedeutet der Substituent R die Alkanoylaminogruppe, so ist sie beispielsweise die Propionyl-, Butyryl-,
Hexanoyl-, Octanoyl-, Decanoyl- oder Dodecanoylaminogruppe.
Aus der deutschen Auslegeschrift 1 059 601 ist es zwar bekannt, daß der korrosive Einfluß von Reinigungsmitteln
auf Metalle durch Zusatz von bestimmten Triazolen herabgesetzt werden kann, wobei dort
insbesondere Benztriazole und ferner auch Methylbenztriazole als Korrosionsverhüter erwähnt werden.
Ferner sind in der britischen Patentschrift 793115 Schmiermittelzusammenstellungen offenbart, welche
als Rostverhütungsmittel alkylierte Benztriazole enthalten, wobei jedoch keine näheren Angaben über
diese Bentriazolderivate gemacht werden. Es war nun nicht vorauszusehen, daß die erfindungsgemäß verwendeten
substituierten Benztriazole eine vielfach verbesserte Wirkung gegenüber dem in der deutschen
Auslegeschrift 1059 601 bevorzugt verwendeten Benztriazol aufweisen und auch aus der erwähnten
britischen Patentschrift konnte nicht auf die verbesserte Schutzwirkung der erfindungsgemäßen Benztriazole
für Kupfer und Kupferlegierungen geschlossen werden.
Die erfindungsgemäßen substituierten Benztriazole besitzen bei Anwendung auf Kupfer- und Kupferlegierungsoberflächen
wertvolle korrosions- und anlaufhemmende und andere schützende Eigenschaften. Sie können als korrosions- und anlaufhemmende
Verbindungen in einer Vielzahl von Stoffen verwendet werden, deren Wirksamkeit beeinträchtigt werden
kann, sei es, daß die Metalloberfläche, auf welche sie aufgebracht werden, durch diese Stoffe der Korrosion
ausgesetzt wird, oder daß die funktioneilen Eigenschaften der Stoffe durch den Kontakt mit der Metalloberfläche
leiden. Die substituierten Benztriazole können daher in Stoffzusammenstellungen als Metallschutzmittel
oder als Metalldeaktivierungsmittel für Kupfer und Kupferlegierungen dienen.
Beispiele von Stoffen, in welche die Benztriazole einverleibt werden können, sind Schmiermittel, hydraulische
Flüssigkeiten, Lacke, Mineralölzusammensetzungen und polymere Substanzen, ferner wäßrige
Medien, beispielsweise wäßriges Äthylenglykol oder andere glykolhaltige Stoffzusammensetzungen, die
als Frostschutzmittel oder Kühlgemische Verwendung finden.
Kupfer- und Kupferlegierungsoberflächen können zum Schutz gegen Korrosion und Anlaufen mit den
erfindungsgemäßen Benztriazolen behandelt werden, indem man die Verbindungen in der Dampfphase
oder in Form von Lösungen, beispielsweise in wäßrigen Glykol- oder Polyglykollösungen, mit ihnen
zusammenbringt. Die Verbindungen können nach einem üblichen Verfahren aufgebracht werden, beispielsweise,
indem man sie in einer Lösung auf die Metalloberfläche aufsprüht, das Metall in eine solche
Lösung eintaucht oder indem man das Metall in Papier oder anderes Packmaterial einpackt, welches
das substituierte Benztriazol enthält. Wird das Metall mit einer Lösung der substituierten Benztriazole
behandelt, so enthält die Lösung vorzugsweise 0,01 bis 5 Gewichtsprozent der Verbindung.
Die substituierten Benztriazole können zur Behandlung von Kupfer und dieses Metall enthaltenden
Legierungen-dienen, wenn solche Kupfer- oder Kupferlegierungsoberflächen durch die Einwirkung von
Schwefelwasserstoff, Ammoniak oder anderer schädlicher Umwelteinflüsse der Korrosion, dem Anlaufen
oder anderen Zerstörungserscheinungen ausgesetzt sind, die ihre Verwendung oder ihr Aussehen beeinträchtigen.
Besonders vorteilhaft sind die erfindungsgemäßen Verbindungen jedoch für die Hemmung
der Korrosion und des Anlaufens auf Kupfer- und Kupferlegierungsoberflächen. Die Behandlung von
Kupferoberflächen mit den erfindungsgemäßen Verbindungen^ kann ferner zur Folge haben, daß Wasserdampf
oder andere Dämpfe auf diesen Flächen als Tröpfchen kondensieren, so daß die Verbindungen
z. B. auch die Wärmeübertragungseigenschaften von Kupferkondensatoren verbessern.
Ferner schützen die erfindungsgemäß verwendeten Verbindungen als Metalldeaktivierungsmittel polymere
Stoffe, die mit Kupfer in Berührung stehen, gegen Abbau. Sie können beispielsweise vorteilhaft in Polypropylen
einverleibt werden, das als überzug für Kupferdraht dienen soll und in Gegenwart von
Kupfer sonst leicht zersetzt wird. Der Anteil von substituiertem Benztriazol an dem Material beträgt dabei
0,01 bis 5 Gewichtsprozent, vorzugsweise 0,1 bis Gewichtsprozent, bezogen auf das Gesamtgewicht
des Polymeren.
Die erfindungsgemäß eingesetzten Verbindungen stellen weiterhin wertvolle Zusätze für synthetische
Schmiermittel dar, beispielsweise für solche, in denen
die Verwendung eines Antioxydationsmittels, wie Dioctyldiphenylamin, erwünscht ist, bei dem Gefahr
besteht, daß es Kupfer- oder Kupferlegierungen, mit denen es in Berührung kommt, korrodiert, es sei denn,
daß diesem Schmiermittel ein korrosionshemmendes Mittel beigefügt wird.
Die Erfindung wird im folgenden an Hand der Beispiele näher erläutert.

Tauchbad-Verfahren
Eine im Säurebad behandelte Kupferfolie wurde in Proben geschnitten, die in verschiedenen wäßrigen
Lösungen eingetaucht wurden.

B. Durchführung der Versuche
Für jede der obengenannten Verbindungen wurde eine wäßrige Lösung von 0,1 Gewichtsprozent hergestellt.
Die sechs Proben wurden bei 65° C und während 5 Minuten in den Lösungen eingetaucht gehalten.
Die Proben werden mit destilliertem Wasser gewaschen und anschließend in Heißluft getrocknet.
Eine siebte im Säuretauchbad behandelte Kupferprobe wurde als Blindprobe verwendet. Zum Vergleich
wurden die Proben einer Atmosphäre ausgesetzt, welche 10 ppm Schwefelwasserstoff enthält.
Der Widerstand gegenüber Anlaufen wurde durch die verstrichene Zeit zur Bildung einer sichtbaren
Oberflächenveränderung bezeichnet.

Diese Ergebnisse zeigen, daß die Verbindungen der vorliegenden Anmeldung Kupfer gegen Anlaufen
schützen und diese Schutzeigenschaften besser sind als die, die durch Behandeln mit Benztriazol, 5-Methylbenztriazol
oder 4-Nitro-benztriazol erhalten werden.
Proben aus einer Kupferfolie geschnitten, werden mit Polierzusammenstellungen behandelt.

B. Durchführung der Versuche
Jede der obengenannten'Verbindung wird in eine
Polierzusammenstellung eingearbeitet. Die Zusammenstellungen werden auf die Proben aufpoliert und
bis zum Austrocknen mit der Metalloberfläche der Proben in Kontakt gelassen. Sie werden dann leicht
abgestaubt und anschließend einer Atmosphäre ausgesetzt, welche 10 Gewichtsteile pro Million (ppm)
Schwefelwasserstoff enthält. Eine mit Polierzusammenstellungen ohne Benztriazolzusatz behandelte
Kupferprobe wird als Blindversuch verwendet. Die Zeiten bis zum Anlaufen sind in der folgenden Tabelle
eingetragen.

Die Ergebnisse zeigen, daß man durch Ersetzen des Benztriazols durch das 5-Methyl-benztriazol in
den Polierzusammenstellungen zu keinen Verbesserungen des Schutzes gegen das Anlaufen gelangt. Die Verwendung
von Alkyl-benztriazol, in dem die Alkylgruppe
zwei oder mehr Kohlenstoffatome aufweist, zeigt jedoch in den Polierzusammenstellungen einen
klaren Fortschritt im Schütze gegen Anlaufen von Kupferoberfiächen.
