Description
Die Erfindung bezieht sich auf ein elektrophotographisches Material, das aus einem Träger und einer
lichtleitfähigen Schicht aus Poly-(N-vinylcarbazol) besteht.
Bringt man zur Herstellung elektrisch isolierender, photoleitfähiger Schichten für elektrophotographische
Zwecke Polymerisate von N-Vinylcarbazol in Form von Lösungen in geeigneten Lösungsmitteln, z. B.
Benzol, Methylenchlorid, Dioxan, Trichloräthylen und Cloroform, oder in Form von Dispersionen in
einem geeigneten Dispersionsmittel, z. B. Glykolmonoäthyläther, Wasser und Butanol, auf Träger
auf, so erhält man Materialien, deren Schichthaftung nach dem Trocknen je nach dem verwendeten Träger
mehr oder weniger gering ist. Die Haftung ist insbesondere dann unzureichend, wenn als Träger für
die lichtleitende polymere Schicht eine Aluminiumfolie verwendet wird. Eine derart beschichtete Aluminiumfolie
darf nicht scharf gebogen oder geknickt werden, da dabei meist eine Beschädigung der lichtleitenden
Schicht eintritt.
Diesem Nachteil will die Erfindung abhelfen.
Erfindungsgemäß wird ein elektrophotographisches Material, das aus einem Träger und einer auf diesem
Träger aufgebrachten lichtleitfähigen Schicht aus Poly-CN-vinylcarbazol) besteht, dadurch hergestellt,
daß Vinylcarbazol in situ auf der Oberfläche des Trägers polymerisiert wird. Zu diesem Zweck bringt
man Vinylcarbazol oder Mischungen von Vinylcarbazol und Poly-(N-vinylcarbazol) auf die zu beschichtende
Oberfläche auf und ruft dann nach einer der in der polymeren Chemie bekannten Methoden
eine Polymerisation, Kondensation oder Brückenbildung hervor. Die auf diese Weise erzeugten lichtleitfähigen
Schichten haften fest auf dem Träger, auf den sie aufgetragen wurden.
Die Erfindung ist im nachstehenden beispielsweise veranschaulicht.
Die Oberfläche eines hohlen Aluminiumzylinders wird durch Sandstrahlen leicht aufgerauht, gründlich
entfettet und mit einer Schicht aus einer Lösung der folgenden Zusammensetzung beschichtet:
Monomeres N-Vinylcarbazol 200 g
Methylenchlorid 1000 ml
Azo-bis-isobutyronitril 2 g
Nach der Trocknung wird der Zylinder in einen Ofen mit einer Stickstoffatmosphäre gebracht, die
Ofentemperatur wird im Laufe von 2 Stunden auf Verfahren zur Herstellung
lichtleitfähiger Schichten

120 bis 130° C erhöht und 15 Stunden auf dieser Höhe gehalten.
Die entstandene Schicht hat eine Dicke von 5 πΐμ.
Der Zylinder eignet sich vorzüglich als Aufzeichnungsmaterial in elektrophotographischen Kopierapparaten,
in denen auf den aufgeladenen Zylinder ein Bild projiziert, dieses Bild entwickelt und auf ein geeignetes
Empfangsmaterial übertragen wird. Die PoIy-(N-vinylcarbazol)-Schicht
haftet hervorragend auf dem Zylinder.
Es wird wie im Beispiel 1 verfahren, jedoch mit dem Unterschied, daß statt eines hohlen Aluminiumzylinders
eine glatte Aluminiumfolie verwendet wird. Auch in diesem Fall erzielt man eine hervorragende
Haftung der Poly-(N-vinylcarbazol)-Schicht auf der Oberfläche der Aluminiumfolie, so daß diese Folie
scharf geknickt werden kann, ohne der lichtleitfähigen Schicht zu schaden.
Wenn dagegen ein bereits hergestelltes Polymerisat von N-Vinylcarbazol in Lösung auf die Aluminium-

folie aufgetragen wird, tritt bei einem scharfen Knicken der Folie eine Beschädigung ein.
Claims (2)
1. Verfahren zur Herstellung eines elektrophotographischen Materials mit einem leitfähigen
Träger und einer lichtleitfähigen Schicht aus Poly-(N-vinylcarbazol), dadurch gekennzeichnet,
daß monomeres N-Vinylcarbazol oder eine Mischung von monomerem N-Vinylcarbazol und
Poly-(N-vinylcarbazol) auf die Oberfläche des Trägers aufgebracht und in situ polymerisiert
wird.
2. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet,
daß als Träger ein Material aus Aluminium verwendet wird.
