La invención tiene por objeto un procedimiento de fusión y de afinación de materiales vitrificables, tal que todo o parte de la energía térmica necesaria para la fusión de los citados materiales vitrificables se aporta por la combustión de combustible (s) fósil (es) con al menos un gas comburente, el (los) citado (s) combustibles-gas o los productos gaseosos resultantes de la combustión que son inyectados bajo el nivel de la masa de los materiales vitrificables (7). La afinación de los materiales vitrificables luego de la fusión comprende al menos una etapa de colocación bajo presión sub-atmosférica.La invención se refiere también al dispositivo de puesta enprÁctica del procedimiento y sus aplicaciones.
