Dans les fig. 1, 3 et 4, 2 est un gicleur, calibré de façon à limiter à une valeur fixée d'avance le débit d'essence sous la dépression maximale qui puisse régner dans le tuyau d'aspiration 22. 3 est titi orifice de très faible section faisant communiquer le conduit avec l'air atmosphérique. 21 est une prise d'air supplémentaire qui peut être obturée plus ou moins complètement en 7 au moyen d'un pointeau 8 solidaire d'un poussoir 9 ;
Dans les fig.5 et 6 on a représenté un dispositif de ralenti dans lequel le gicleur 2 est situé près du niveau supérieur 14' de l'es sence dans le puits 1, dispositif qui est actuel lement bien connu. Comme le montrent ces figures, ce gicleur est constitué par un corps cylindrique 18, auquel est suspendu un aju- tage percé d'un trou 2 constituant le gicleur proprement dit;
Improvement in the idling device of carburettors of engines with explosions. The object of the invention is an improvement to the device for idling which generally comprises the carburettors of explosive engines in the form of an auxiliary nozzle with air intake, improvement according to which an intake additional air, of relatively large section compared to that of said idle jet, is provided at the point of the duct which brings the combustible mixture from the same idle jet to the engine intake pipe,
said additional air intake being able to be closed more or less completely by means of a device which is actuated remotely, with the aim of reducing at will, and during operation, the depression in said nozzle and consequently its flow rate and engine speed.
It is known that most carburettors for internal combustion engines have a so-called "idling" device consisting of a small auxiliary nozzle supplying gasoline to it duct which opens into the suction pipe near the throttle or valve. valve intended for speed adjustment and, in relation to the latter, on the side of the intake breech.
This small nozzle has one or more air inlets, the invariable section of which is determined once and for all according to the gasoline content that one wishes to give to the mixture supplied at the start of the engine, that is to say when, the butterfly being almost fully closed, the depression is felt only on the orifice of the duct of said nozzle.
In Swiss Patent No. 92799, the Applicant Company has described a shutter which, through a very simple operation, makes it possible to increase the flow of gasoline from the idling jet, for example to facilitate starting the cold engine; but this shutter does not allow very exact adjustment.
The object of the present invention, on the contrary, is to allow precise adjustment of the quantity of gasoline sucked in when idling at any time, in particular when walking, and at the will of the driver. The appended drawing represents three embodiments of the object of the invention given by way of example.
Fig. 1 is a diagram of the first form, and FIG. 2 a diagram of the second; Fig. 3 is a vertical section through the axis of the idle jet according to the diagram in FIG. 1, and Fig. 4 is a side view; Fig. 5 is a vertical section through the axis of the idle jet of the third embodiment, and FIG. 6 is a side view.
In these figures, the organs playing the same role are designated by the same numbers.
?? is the suction pipe leading the combustible mixture supplied by titi main car burator not shown in the drawing, to the intake breech of an engine. 6 is the throttle, shown closed, allowing the engine speed to be adjusted. 1 is a well which contains gasoline reaching it from a constant level tank not shown; 5 is a conduit bringing this gasoline mixed with air into the suction pipe. 22 oit it emerges near the butterfly 6.
In fig. 1, 3 and 4, 2 is a nozzle, calibrated so as to limit to a value fixed in advance the fuel flow under the maximum depression which can prevail in the suction pipe 22. 3 is very small orifice section making the duct communicate with atmospheric air. 21 is an additional air intake which can be closed more or less completely at 7 by means of a needle 8 integral with a pusher 9;
a spring 13 tends to keep the needle 8 constantly away from the seat 7; a cam 10 (actuated, for example, from the driver's seat by means of rods) makes it possible on the contrary to bring it closer to its seat and even to close the latter completely. An adjustable stop 12, integral with the cam 10, makes it possible to limit in the direction of the opening of the needle the play of the lever 11 and consequently the maximum air inlet section between said needle 8 and its seat 7.
According to fig. 3, the nozzle 2 is fixed to the end of a tube 23 immersed in titi gasoline well 1, tube which is itself integral with rrrr cylindrical body 18, closing the well at its upper part and which is pierced a small air intake hole 3 located above the upper level 11- of the gasoline. The body 18 has an axial hole, the upper edge of which constitutes the seat 7 of the needle 8, and a lateral hole placing the tube 23 in communication with the duct 5.
It is also bored in the form of a chamber 21 in which can slide a pusher 9 carrying the needle 8 and pierced at its upper part with several air intake openings 24, a pusher which is biased from bottom to top by a spring. 13. On the same body 18 is fixed by means of a locking screw 17 a split support 16, between two ears of which is a cam 10 carrying an adjustment screw 12, itself fixed on the axis of a control lever 11.
The support 16 small turn, by partially loosening its locking screw, all around the body 18 on which it is nevertheless held by a protruding bead 20 which the latter comprises. With this arrangement, the lever 11 can be oriented with the greatest ease in any direction in order to couple it to the organ which controls it.
The operation of this device is as follows: When the throttle fi and the needle 8 are closed, the vacuum due to the operation of the engine causes gasoline to flow out on the one hand at the nozzle? and on the other hand sucks air through the orifice 3; the cross section of the latter being very small and all other air intakes being closed, the combustible mixture introduced through line 5 is very rich.
If, with the butterfly 6 remaining closed, the lever 11 is actuated so as to allow the needle 8 to rise from the seat, a very large air intake is made through the orifices 24 and the vacuum at the nozzle 2 decreases, thus natural only the gasoline content of the mixture; the latter can moreover be adjusted, with a precision which depends only on the shape of the cam 10, up to a minimum which is reached when the screw 12 abuts against a spout 25 provided for this purpose on the support 16.
In fig.5 and 6 there is shown an idling device in which the nozzle 2 is located near the upper level 14 'of the gasoline in the well 1, a device which is currently well known. As shown in these figures, this nozzle consists of a cylindrical body 18, from which is suspended an nozzle pierced with a hole 2 constituting the nozzle proper;
the chamber in which is screwed "said body 18 is closed by means of a threaded plug 19 pierced with an air intake 7 which more or less closes a needle 8 solid with parts similar to those of FIGS. 3 and 4 and described above.
Under the effect of the vacuum prevailing in the duct ô when the speed control throttle is closed, air is sucked in on the one hand through small orifices 3, through an annular passage 4, and on the other hand, gasoline with which this air is intimately mixed; the very rich mixture passes through holes 26 and then passes through the air duct to the suction pipe. But when, by operating the lever 11, the needle 8 is allowed to rise from its seat 7, a very large inflow of air occurs, which reduces the vacuum at the nozzle and consequently the quantity of gasoline sucked in.
In fig. 2 the adjustable stop 12 has been removed, the effect of which is to limit the opening section of the needle 8 and consequently the volume of air introduced cry 7; on the other hand, an adjustable needle 15 has been interposed on the duct connecting this air intake 7 to the duct 5, by means of which the section of the annular passage 14 can be definitively adjusted (this section being always smaller than that of the air intake 7), and consequently the maximum volume of air delivered by said air intake, which has the same effect as the mechanical stop shown in the first two embodiments.
The object of the invention can moreover be applied to any idling device consisting of a small auxiliary carburetor with jet and air intake, the details of execution and the shape being able of course to vary with the applications.
In any case, adaptation to carburators makes it possible to enrich, at the start of the engine, the mixture supplied only by idling, which facilitates start-up, and to lean this mixture when the engine is hot, which allows to obtain a perfectly regular walk, always by means of this single slow motion.
