<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

Advanced carburettor.
The present invention relates to an injection carburetor under variable pressure, the variation of the supply pressure being a function of the opening angle of the throttle valve of the carburetor. This carburetor is remarkable in particular in that the throttle valve is placed downstream of the injector so that injection under pressure is not directly influenced by the vacuum prevailing downstream of said throttle.
According to another characteristic, the injector comprises a single nozzle of constant section supplying the carburetor at the various engine speeds, in power, at idle and at the start.
In the variable pressure injection carburetor according to the invention, there is provided a mechanical connection between the throttle valve or the like and the piston or the like.

movable member of the fuel supply pressure regulator. According to one embodiment, this mechanical connection comprises a cam with a suitable profile, integral with the throttle valve and connected by a lever system acting on the movable member of the regulator. This embodiment makes it possible to obtain any desired law between the positions of the carburetor shutter and the fuel supply pressure.
According to another embodiment, the mechanical connection between the shutter and the movable member of the regulator comprises a lever integral with the throttle valve and mechanically connected to said movable member of the regulator. In this case, the pressure variations are. power supply / proportional to shutter movements.
In the accompanying drawings, given solely by way of example: FIG. 1 is a sectional view of an improved carburetor according to the invention; FIG. 2 is a view of a starting device capable of being used on this carburetor; FIG. 3 is a view of the carburetor according to the invention comprising a variant in the mechanical connection connecting the shutter to the movable member of the regulator-expander.
According to the exemplary embodiment shown, the variable-pressure injection carburetor comprises a body 1 of generally cylindrical shape with axis XX. This body 1 opens at one of its ends at 2 into the atmosphere. Its other end comprises a flange 4 or any other means of connection to the intake manifold of the engine.
In this tubular body 1, on the side of the flange 3, a butterfly 4 is provided: or any other obturator member mounted os-

flickering around an axis 5. This butterfly 4 is provided at 6 with a notch and a hole.
Upstream of this butterfly 4, with respect to the direction of flow of the air sucked into the atmosphere, the tubular body 1 comprises, integrally with it, a diametral bar 7, of suitable profile so as not to create significant pressure drop and disturbances in the flow of fluid streams around it in the direction of arrows f 1.
The bar 7 is pierced with a radial channel 8, opening at one of its ends in a device-regulating the pressure 2 of the fuel, a device which will be described later and at the other end in a cylindrical cavity 9 formed in a boss 10 carried by the bar 7. This boss 10 has a shape of revolution around the axis XX, it is directed towards the end 2 of the body 1 opening into the atmosphere, that is to say facing the fuel air inlet,
The end of the boss 10 forms a threaded connection 11 in which is fixed by a base 12 a part 13 of generally cylindrical shape with axis XX. In the base 12 is fixed, by screwing or otherwise, a nozzle 14 pierced with an axial channel 15 of axis XX, making the chamber 9 communicate with the interior of the cylinder 13.
This cylinder is pierced with lateral openings 16 immediately above the level dd of the nozzle 14 then it comprises between the planes ce and sa, a Venturi tube 17, the neck of which is in the plane bb and finally opens freely in aa in the body 1 facing the air inlet 2.
The fuel pressure regulator device 2 comprises a body 18 provided with a connector 19 connected to the supply source (pump, tank / charge or other) at a pressure P greater than the pressure 1 desired for the injector supply.
In the body 18 is formed a cavity 20 closed by a
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
flexible membrane 21, fixed by its edges between the body 18 and a cover 22, fixed to said body. The cavity 20 communicates on the one hand directly with the channel 8 of the body 1 and on the other hand with the fuel inlet connector 19, through an orifice 23.
This orifice 23 may be partially or totally closed by a valve 24, returned to its seat by a spring 25 bearing, on the one hand on the valve 24, and on the other hand on a stop ring 26, fixed in fitting 19.
The valve 24 rests on the diaphragm 21 by means of a stop rod 27 under the action of the spring 25 and the pressure P so that the position of said valve 24 with respect to the orifice 23 depends on the position of the membrane 21.
The other face of the membrane 21 determines with the cover 22 a chamber 28 which is in permanent communication with the atmosphere through an orifice 29. On this face of the membrane 21 bears a spring 30, the other end of which is s' presses a guide piston 31.
On its upper face, the piston 31 is subjected to the action of a spring 32 bearing on the upper base 33 of the cylinder 34,
The piston 31 comprises a rod 55 sliding in a bore 36 of a boss 37 of the cylinder 34 and comprises, at its end located on the side of the piston 31, an outer shoulder 38 capable of abutting against the end of the boss 37 of the cover 33 .
At its upper end, the rod 35 carries a screw 39 constituting an adjustable stop. Under this screw 39 bears the end of a lever 40, mounted to oscillate about a fixed axis 41 and integral in these oscillations with another lever 42. This lever 42 moves on the profile of a cam 43 soli - daire of the axis 5 of the throttle valve 4, or similar member of the carburetor.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
The operation is as follows: under the action of the engine aspiration, the combustion air enters through opening 12 and gains following the arrows! 1 the other end of the body 1 by licking the cylinder 13 into which some of this air penetrates.
As for the fuel, it arrives through the connection 19 at the pressure P passes through the orifice 23 controlled by the valve 24 and reaches the chamber 20 from where it flows through the conduit 8 to the nozzle 14.
The supply pressure P drops in the chamber 20 of the regulator-expansion valve to a lower value p which depends on the position of the valve 24, that is to say on the central part of the membrane 21, the position of which itself depends. that of the piston 31 which is itself controlled by the movement of the butterfly 4 via the cam 43, the levers 42 and 40 and the spring 32.
In the idle position the throttle 4 is closed. the notch and the hole are arranged at 6 on this butterfly so that when the butterfly is closed, the gasoline which falls from the nozzle 14 flows through the notch and is emulsified with air. This device makes it possible to obtain good idling speed, which is moreover perfect thanks to an air adjustment screw of a known type, not shown. The guide 35 then abuts the shoulder 38 at the top and the spring 30 has a minimum tension giving the smallest pressure compatible with idling.
As the butterfly opens, the spring 32 drives the piston 31 downwards, which increases the tension of the spring 30 and therefore the relaxed pressure. It is conceivable that it is possible to establish a profile of the cam 45 making it possible to obtain the best fuel flow rate with respect to the air flow rate given by the opening of the butterfly valve 4.
The fuel therefore comes out with a variable pressure 2
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
depending on the opening of the butterfly valve 4, via the nozzle 14 which flows into the cylinder 13 facing the combustion air which partly entering at aa rushes into the Venturi 17. The fuel-air mixture exits through the side ports 16 of cylinder 13 and completes mixing with the air which, sucked in by the engine, licks said cylinder 13 on the outside. It should be noted that the nozzle 14 and the access members - evenings with which it is combined being placed upstream of the throttle 4, the fuel injection, therefore the fuel flow, is not directly influenced by the negative pressure prevailing downstream of the throttle 4, as would be the case if said butterfly 4 was placed downstream of the nozzle.
For cold starting, it is necessary to obtain an accelerated idle speed and consequently a well determined relative flow of air and gasoline. The mechanism shown by way of example in fig.s makes it possible to obtain this result. This mechanism comprises a lever 44 articulated at 45 and controlled by a pull tab 46. This lever acts via a roller
47 on the throttle control lever 48 4.
By acting on the zipper 46 in the direction of the arrow f2 we therefore open the butterfly valve 4 of the carburetor which controls the air flow and at the same time the guide 35 goes down a fraction of a millimeter to release the gasoline from the amount needed for fast idling.
FIG. 3 represents a view of the carburetor according to the invention provided with a mechanical transmission by levers and a connecting rod connecting the throttle valve to the movable member of the regulator.
At its upper end, the rod 35 carries an adjustable stop screw 39. Under this screw 39 bears the extremity. mited with a lever 40 mounted to oscillate about a fixed axis 41 and integral in its oscillations with a lever 50. A lever
48 integral with the butterfly 4 is connected to the lever 50 by a connecting rod
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
letter 49. the operation is as follows. 'By acting on the throttle control lever 48, the assembly of the two levers 40 and 50 is made to oscillate by means of the rod 49. The end of the lever 40 drives the movable member of the regulator 35 thanks to the stop 39 against an elastic return device.
The main advantages of the carburetor according to the invention are the following: possibility of operation in all positions, which is of primary interest for aviation engines and all vehicles having to travel in very rough terrain, elimination of the nozzle necessary in vacuum carburators, which improves the filling coefficient of the displacement and consequently the engine efficiency ease of adjusting the dosage of the air-gasoline mixture since it suffices to vary the profile of the cam 43 to obtain a determined fuel flow for a defined position of the carburettor throttle very simple, the carburetor having only one nozzle of constant section for the choke, idle speed and power, very clear improvement in pick-up times ,
with respect to the vacuum carburetor, the inertia of the gasoline being overcome at the time of recovery by the supply pressure.
Of course, the invention is in no way limited to the embodiments shown and described which have been chosen only by way of example.
