CARBURATEUR "

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

CARBURETOR "
Disclosed is a floatless carburetor in which a piston actuated by the pressure of the outside air lifts a fuel valve to an extent dependent on the fuel demand; the opening stroke of the valve is limited by stopping against one of the two arms of a lever which moves while the air is admitted, a larger opening of the shutter which regulates the air intake determining an increase in the stroke of the regulating piston and therefore also an increase in the stroke of the fuel valve.
The movement of the regulating piston is transmitted to the fuel valve by a single arm lever, the large lever arm acting on a regulating piston and the small arm acting on the fuel valve; the course of the regulating piston is thus limited by the single-arm lever.
It has, however, been shown that carburettors of this kind lend themselves to notable improvements from the point of view of the conditions which govern the action.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
of the levers and that they admit an absolutely invariable adjustment during idling, if one transforms for that in rotational movement the re-energizing movement which one made hitherto to the fuel valve; a rotary butterfly, known in itself, is used for this purpose. One could simply connect by an articulation the free end of an arm fixed to the axis of rotation of the butterfly to the corresponding arm of the lever with two arms constituting the stop.
But for real. Read this transmission of the movement of the air inlet shutter, it is better to place on the axis of the butterfly an eccentric against which strongly presses the corresponding arm of the lever with two arms. If this eccentric is susceptible to shifting, the value of its eccentricity can be adjusted as required.
In the accompanying drawings, there is shown by way of example an embodiment of the device forming the subject of the invention.
Figure 1 is a vertical section through the frame of the fuel valve.
Figure 2 is a section, by axis II - II of the figure, 3.
Figure 3 is a side view.
Figure 4 shows the transmission lever seen from above.
Figure 5 shows the regulating piston with its tenon serving as a stop *
Figure 6 shows the eccentric alone, seen from behind.
A suction pipe a leading through one of its ends to the suction chamber of the engine, contains the device regulating the entry of the air, this device having the appearance of a rotary butterfly f associated with a nozzle. injector b. going to. engine, is located in front of and not behind the compartment where the mixture is formed, or behind the nozzle
Injector. The valve frame. 2. containing the fuel valve n is attached to one side of the suction line a and is removable.
In order to be able to regulate the jet of fuel coming from one of the regions of the valve frame located below the valve n and penetrating into the elbow 1 of the injector tube b, the mouth of the supply channel has been arranged g in faae of an air supply channel h, provided with a spring-loaded ball valve. When. Inhalation of the engine becomes quite intense, this small ball valve opens and lets a current of air enter the channel h. The fuel passes through the channel of the sound !. to reach elbow 1 of the injector after having undergone a first fractionation; it is then divided again and completely, by the main jet of air coming from the injection nozzle and meeting it at right angles.
In the plane of the median section of the fuel valve is arranged, a lever o with a single arm, movable around a tenon t, the longitudinal axis of the lever being substantially perpendicular to that of the valve. In the same plane. but with their longitudinal axes roughly parallel to that of. the valve n, is typically a regulating piston p and a stopper z serving to limit the stroke of the lever o and by the same that of the fuel valve n.
The stop has the appearance of an adjusting screw and is mounted on one end of a lever with two arms ¯ ±, the other end of which, loaded by the spring, presses strongly by its surface x against an eccentric w, This one is mounted exoentrically on a bearing surface off the axis of rotation of the throttle butterfly f, its position being able to be adjusted in a direction normal to the axis of rotation so that its eccentricity,
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The greater this eccentricity, the greater the rotation of the lever s, and consequently the longer will be the travel that the stop z will allow the lever 2, and the fuel valve.We can, for example,
adjust the eccentricity according to the nature of the fuel used; appropriate marks can also be applied to the exoentric in order to obtain rapid adjustment.

regulator piston 2, this ai rises by virtue of the pressure of the ambient air and drives the fuel valve n. Thanks to the presence of the lever o which transmits the movement of the regulating piston to the valve n, the thrust exerted by 4 piston can be minimal.
The lever o which communicates the opening movement to the fuel valve is also influenced by

It is the piston rod pl passing through the frame which provides the connection between the regulating piston 2 and the free end of the lever o; the rod has at its upper end an opening into which penetrates the appendix p2 of a tenm serving as a stop. The extrem-

forked tee of the lever o embraces the appendix p2.
The stopper has been given the appearance of an adjusting screw passing through one of the arms of the lever s and retained by a small stop spring. With the air inlet valve closed, the screw should actually rest against the upper end of the tenon p3. But in order to be able to use the fuel valve even in the case of idling, the screw z is adjusted so that it does not rest on the stop pin p3 when the two levers are at rest, but that it is away from the pin from a distance such that, even when idling, the lever o can turn and lift the valve n sufficiently to allow the exact quantity - required - to pass through it.
