Perfectionnements aux carburateurs
EMI1.1
¯-¯0¯ ¯.¯0¯.¯6¯0¯0¯0¯0¯0¯.¯0¯.-
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
plusieurs gicleurs,,

Carburetor improvements
EMI1.1
¯-¯0¯ ¯.¯0¯.¯6¯0¯0¯0¯0¯0¯.¯0¯.-
The present invention relates to carburetors in which the shutter of the mixture is constituted by a slide moving perpendicular to 1 axis of the body of the carburetor.
It relates more particularly to carburettors of this type comprising a "passage jet", that is to say comprising, in addition to idling and the main system for supplying the usual fuel, an intermediate nozzle opening into a zone where the vacuum is greater than at the level of the main fuel supply system.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
fuel with the small openings of the shutter, this passage nozzle facilitating the passage between idle operation where idling only delivers, and normal operation @ where the main system operates normally.
In known carburetors of the type we have in mind, the passing jet does not have a sufficiently prolonged action. The vacuum on this jet falls rapidly when the shutter is opened and its flow becomes insufficient before the main supply system operates regularly.
The present invention overcomes this drawback and ensures perfect progression from idling to normal walking. It also provides for a simple construction of the device ensuring progression.
According to the invention, the main jet, like the passing jet, are both emulsified with air. A secondary duct supplies the emulsion air to the two jets, one end of said duct is located in the air inlet or in the atmosphere and the other end is in the immediate vicinity of the upstream face of the 'shutter. This secondary duct communicates with the main emulsion supply system and it is into said duct that the passage nozzle fed with pure fuel emerges. Said conduit constitutes a bypass, between the main emulsion system and the passing fuel outlet.
When the shutter is opened, when the flow rate of the passage nozzle becomes insufficient to supply the engine on its own, this bypass provides an additional supply of fuel from the main emulsion channel before
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
this channel has started to flow through its normal outlet.
It is this supply of additional fuel which achieves the continuity between the operation on the passing jet and the normal operation.
The invention also comprises an arrangement of the various jets and of the secondary duct suitable for increasing the depression which is exerted on the passage jet,
The description which will follow with regard to the accompanying drawing, given by way of example, will make it clear how the invention can be implemented.
Fig. 1 shows, in longitudinal section, a carburetor embodying the invention.
Fig. 2 shows, on an enlarged scale, a detail of FIG. 1.
Fig 3 shows a side view of the part shown in Fig 2.
FIG. 4 represents a part of the apparatus of fig 1 at a determined phase of operation.
The carburetor shown in FIG. 1 comprises a body 1 provided with an air intake 2, a diffuser 50 and a pipe 3 communicating with the suction pipe 51 'of the engine. The carburetor is fixed to the pipe 51 by the collar 52 and the tightening bolt 53. A cylindrical slide 4 notched on the side of the air intake and carried by the part 6, is controlled by the cable 5 the part 6 being recalled. in the position where the drawer is closed by a spring 7 compressed between the part 6 and the cover 8 of the boot 9 carried by the intake manifold 3.
The
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The cover 8 is fixed to the box 9 by the key 49. A second slide 10 sliding inside the box 9 is controlled by the cable 11 and is returned to the closed position by a spring 12 compressed between. shoulder 13 of the drawer 10 and a stop 54. The stop 54 is carried by a hollow rod 55 engaging in the cover 8 and forming a guide for the spring 12. The two drawers are guided by a flat part 14 carried by the cover 8 .
The function of the drawer 10 is to increase the vacuum exerted on the fuel supply system, in particular at the time of departure, but this drawer can be fully open in normal operation. The fuel from the constant-level vessel is brought through a conduit which has not been shown, to the annular space 15, then enters through the filter 16 into the annular space 1?, And gains the calibration 18 by the orifices 19 and the channel 20 made in the part 21 leaving the nozzle 18.
At rest, the fuel rises to the level X - X, The end 22 of the part 21 is threaded and is screwed into the nut 23 which is blocked by a seal 24 on a shoulder 25 made in a boss 44 carried by the tubing 3.
The nut 23 is screwed onto the tail 26 of the part 27 which is applied by means of a. {'Anoint 28 on a shoulder 29 formed in the pipe 3, the part 27 is engaged from the top. Before assembly drawers 10 and 4. The part 21 which carries the nozzle 18 is accessible by unscrewing the lower cap 30.
The part 27 held in place by the nut 23 is traversed by an axial duct 31 which opens at 32 into the mixing chamber 33 of the carburetor and which constitutes
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
the main emulsified fuel outlet channel
As shown in figs 2 and 3, part 27 has the shape of a cross and bears to the right and left of the central part 32 extensions 34 and 35, The cross 34 - 35 is pierced with two air channels 36 and 37 which are located in the extension 1 of one another and whose direction is parallel or substantially parallel to the axis of the body of the carburetor, the oanal 37 has a larger section than the oanal 36.
The end 38 of the extension 34 is in the immediate vicinity of the fan face 39 of the drawer 4, when the drawer is closed. The conduit 36 opens at a small distance from the region 40 of the wall of the tube 3 on which the drawer 4 rests in the closed position. In the extension 34 is made a calibrated orifice 41 opening into the duct 360 This calibration is supplied with pure fuel by the space 42 separating the base of the extension 34 from the shoulder 29, and the duct 43 which separates the tail 6 from the boss 44 and the nut 23, the space 43 being obtained by means of a countersink in the tail 26.
An air-emulsified fuel outlet is arranged at 45 for idling. The outlet 45 is supplied by the oonduit 46 which comprises an air intake and a nozzle supplied with fuel by the conduit 56 and the annular space 57; the idle 45 preferably opens downstream of the shutter 4. in the vicinity of the latter.
The operation of the apparatus is as follows, the drawer 10 being partially or completely open, the drawer 4 being closed the motor running at slowed air
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
powering the engine is supplied by the leaks between the spool 4 and the pipe 1 and by the idle air intake.
The fuel is supplied exclusively by the idle output 45 over which there is a strong depression, the depression which is exerted at 33 being zero or nearly so.
If the drawer 4 is opened slightly to a position like that shown in fig.4. air is sucked through the slot 47 formed between the edge 48 of the drawer 4 and the wall 40. The slot 47, offered to the passage of air, has a small section and this section is further reduced by the present of the part 34 whose section is notable, as shown in fig ,, 3 and which hides a large part of the slot 47, A strong depression is then exerted on the end 38 of the channel 36 and is transmitted to the nozzle 41 which delivers The great depression which prevails at 38 causes a rapid passage of air in the channels 37 and 36. This air passage emulsifies the fuel leaving the orifice 41 and ensures a good atomization thereof.
For small openings of the shutter 4, the depression on the main outlet orifice 32, which opens at a significant distance from the shutter 4, in the central region of the chamber 33, is minimal and is not sufficient. to cause the fuel to exit through this orifice.
If the opening of the drawer is increased, the slot 47 is larger and the constriction caused by the part 34 becomes less important; the depression at 38 decreases while the depression at 32 increases. Nozzle flow rate 41
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
tends to become insufficient to supply the engine on its own, but the increase in vacuum at 32 causes fuel to rise in central channel 31 'to the vicinity of duct 36.
A new quantity of fuel supplied by this central duct is then entrained by the demulsified air supplied by 37 through the channel 36, the nozzle 41 continuing to deliver this additional fuel supply, at the moment when the flow of the jet 'passing would become insufficient. ensures continuity between the passing jet and the normal jet. This progressiveness is made possible by the emulsion air intake 37 common to the main jet and to the passage jet, the air intake 36 of the passage jet 41 forming a bypass between the main supply channel 31 and the outlet channel for the emulsified passing fuel formed by the end of the channel 36.
For even larger openings of the drawer 4, the depression at 32 increases with respect to the depression at 38 and becomes equal to it. From a certain degree of opening, the vacuum at 32 is sufficient to cause fuel to exit through this orifice, this fuel being emulsified by part of the air supplied by the channel 37.
It should be noted that all of the fuel supplied to the main outlet channel and to the passage nozzle is controlled by a single calibration 18; the fuel delivered by the passage jet is controlled by a calibration 41 which prevents having too rich a mixture at the small openings of the drawer 4.
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
The bore of the channel 36 will be proportional to the diameter of the nozzle 41 while the channel 37 will have a larger seotion in order to be able to supply the air necessary to emulsify the main outgoing jet; .. at 32 and the passage jet 41. The channels 36 and 37 will advantageously be cylindrical and calibrated over the entire length without presenting any constriction, the rectilinear passage of the air in these channels allows -. as a dynamic potion of this air on the jets, The height and width of the end 34 are proportioned to the diameters of the tubing 3 and 'of the channel 36 /.
The preferred embodiment of the invention, shown in the drawing, leads to simple machining and a low price. It is seen; in fact, apart from idling, all the fuel and emulsion air outlet channels are made in a single cross-shaped piece, threaded at its lower part and in which it is very easy to drill the channels 31, 36 and 37. This part is shown in FIGS. 2 and 3,
The invention is obviously not limited to the embodiment which has been given by way of example.
The pipe 3 will not necessarily be horizontal since it is the depressions which prevail at the end of the main outlet channel and at the end of the passage channel which are predominant, much more than the respective levels of the outlet orifices. and calibrations feeding said channels.
Finally, the invention is applicable to carburetors comprising a more complicated fuel supply system and comprising for example several fuel outlet channels operating in the normal market, or else
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
several jets,
It is only for the sake of simplicity that the operation of the invention has been demonstrated on a carburettor having a single nozzle and having a single main fuel outlet channel for normal operation.
CLAIMS 10 - A carburetor for an internal combustion engine comprising a slide valve, a main system for supplying air emulsified fuel, an idling nozzle and a passage nozzle, characterized in that it comprises a secondary duct which communicates at one of its points with the main emulsion supply system and one end of which communicates with the purp air while the other end opens into the engine intake manifold in the immediate vicinity of the face upstream of the shutter, in the region of said tubing first discovered when covering said shutter, a passage nozzle supplied with pure fuel opening into said secondary duct.
