Caisse enregistreuse.
Cash register. The present invention relates to a cash register comprising a mechanism for printing data on a recording tape, data corresponding to keystrokes made on the keyboard, a mechanism for advancing the tape a determined length at each operating cycle of the cash register, cycle during which a duplicate is also printed on the strip, the end of this strip being cut into a ticket issued and a stub, each bearing one of the prints that were made during the cycle,

Fig. 5 is. a front elevation of the mechanism of fig. 1, some parts having been omitted for clarity of the drawing.
Fig. 6 is a plan view of the mechanism of FIG. 1.
As seen in fig. 1, 5 and 6, the cash register shown is. provided, on the left, with a side frame 11 from which comes out. a main axis 12. Cet. axis rotates one full turn in the direction of the arrow (fig. 1) during each operating cycle of the cash register. The cash register is also provided with a second axis 13 (fig. 1), protruding from the left frame 11.
When the actuators are set for entering data on the keyboard of the cash register, a series of concentric tubes 14, each tube being connected to the differential composition device, rotate differentially and proportionally with the same setting of the differential device. In addition, a transmission gear 15 (Fig. 1) transmits the movement. differential from a tube to a character-carrying wheel 16, rotating on -Lin axis 17.
In this way, the character wheels 16 take position on the print line, so that the desired data can be printed on a paper web 70. -Print mechanism.
The characters aligned by the wheels 16 are printed on the web 70, (the way one obtains a main ticket and a stub. A two-boss cam 18 is mounted on the main axle 12 and cooperates with a roller 19 mounted. on one of the arms of a lever 20 (fig. 2) which pivots around a support 31 fixed to the left frame 11. A horizontal arm 21 of lever 20 is urged upwards by a res out 22 connected to the horizontal arm 21 and to a sleeve 23 carried by a journal 24.
The arm 21 is provided with a lug 25 placed near its end so as to be able to engage between the branches of the front end of the fallen oven (fig. 2) of a plate 26, the upper branch being longer than the lower branch.
The other end of the plate 26 is also forked so as to engage in the groove of a sleeve 28, this arrangement allowing reciprocation. of the wafer 26, so that when the. The pad is in the forward position (that is to say pushed to the right, according to FIG. 2), the lug 25 is placed between the branches of the pad 26. The latter can then be released. place at the same time as the arm 21 of the lever 20. When the plate is pushed to the left (fig. 2), the shortest key branch the fork does not cover the lug 25 and the horizontal arm 21 of the lever 20 can then swing freely. down independently. of the plate 26.
The plate 26 itself carries a stud 29 which engages in the forked end of an arm 30, controlled by the sleeve 23 and fixed to it, independently. of the journal 24. The other end of the sleeve 23 also carries a hand lever 33. It can therefore be seen that, when the hand lever 33 is driven by a key reciprocating movement, it turns the lever. sleeve 23, which, in turn, does. turning the arm 30, thereby moving the plate 26 forward or backward, respectively, to engage the fork on or off the pin 25. In the. fork of the plate 26 also engages. the smaller end of a journal 34 projecting laterally from a hammer control arm 35.
This control arm 35 is fixed on a rotating sleeve 36. freely on the journal 31. The arm 35 is. biased upwards by a spring. 37 stretched between the journals 34 and 2-l. At its free end, the arm 3'5 carries a journal 38, projecting in the direction opposite to that of the journal 34 and which engages in the buttonhole 39 of a hammer arm 40, pivoting freely with a key its ends on a journal 41 fixed to the side frame 1.1. At its free end is fixed a rubber hammer 43 placed above the character-carrying wheels 16.
The lower end (the hand lever 33 has two notches 44 and .15 (fig. 1), so that one or the other of them, depending on the position of the lever, can engage with a stud 46, fixed to the end of an arm 47 pivoting on the journal 41. The arm 47 is rigidly linked to a second arm 48 (FIG. 6) by a bracket 49.
Notch 44 is placed, relative to stud -16, higher than notch 45, so that when stud 46 is. engaged in the encoelie 45, as seen in fig. 1, the arms -17 and -18 and the caliper 49 are lowered, while, when the stud 46 is engaged in the notch 44, the two arms 47 and 48, as well as the caliper 49, are found. then in a high position.
Approximately in the middle of the caliper 49 is an adjusting wrench screw 50, designed to be locked by a locking wrench locknut.
Further forward and also pivoting on the journal 41, a pair of key arms 51 are. rigidly linked one to. the other by a caliper 52 which is placed below the caliper 49. A spring 53, tensioned between the caliper 52 and the journal 24, calls up the caliper 52 to bring it into contact. with the screw (the adjustment 50. The arms 51, at their free ends, support a paperweight roller 54 placed above a printing roller 55 carrying a printing plate 56.
The arm 51 placed closest to the 1auclie side of the frame 11 has an upward extension 57 at the end of which a stud 58 forms. projection, which engages in a bou tonnière 59 pierced in a rod 60. The stud 58 is elastically linked to. the rear end of the link 60 by a spring 61. The front end of this link is articulated at the top of a substantially triangular plate 62, which pivots at a point of its base on a short journal 63 fixed to the side frame 11.
At its other angle, the triangular plate 62 carries a knurled pressure roller 6-1, mounted for rotation and. being able, at the moment (to supply it with a ticket, to engage with a supply roller 65 of the strip 70, rotating above the series of tubes 1.1. On the supply roller 65 is fixed a gear 66 meshed with a pinion 67 rotating on journal 63. Pinion 67 in turn meshes with gear 68 attached to plate roller 55. Gear 68, in turn, drives partial gear 69 attached to main axis 12.
Normally, gear 68, and this during the first part of the key operating cycle, engages a non-toothed part of partial gear 69, so that gear 68 does not rotate during the preceding part of the cycle. the meshing of the teeth.
The paper tape 70, shown in i'ig. 1 by a dot-and-dash line, is fed between the paper press roll 54- and the plate roll 55, and also between the hammer 43 and the card wheels 16. The strip 70 can be driven by one of its edges. between the pressure rollers 65 and 64, and it is then guided forward by a slide 71.
An ink ribbon carried by an enerenr ribbon frame (not shown) is interposed between the eliehé roll 55 and the earae- ter holders 16.
A sub-assembly mounted on a plate 76 and partially seen in section in fi. * 5, intended to cut the strip, is mounted on the side frame 11 by means of screws 75 (fig. 1, 4-. 5 and 6), in front of the mechanism described. above.
The upper edge of the. plate 76 is notched for the reasons explained below.
A support 77, in the form of a [J, is fixed to the plate 76 by means of screws 78. The side faces of the support 77 converge slightly towards each other at their upper edges, and a fixed cutting blade 80 is mounted inside each side face 79. These blades are made of thin flexible steel, and their upper edges lie substantially in the same plane as that of the slide 71. The blades 80 also converge on one another. towards each other at their upper edges. At their ends placed near the frame 11, each of the blades 80 is provided with an extension 81 directed upwards.
A slide 81 moves vertically along the frame and the plate 76, thanks to grooves 85 and 86 which are formed therein and through which pass, respectively, a journal 87 fixed to the frame 11 and the axis 13. A washer spacer 88 is placed on the journal 87 between the. slide 84 and the frame 11, to compensate for the thickness of the plate 76. The slide 84 passes, at the top, between the blades 80 and its upper end 89 is bent at approximately 85, so as to seal the blades, as one see it in fi, -. 5.
A double-edged knife 90, fixed on this angled part, is. normally placed above the blades 80, so that the vertical protrusions 81 of the latter rest on them., one on each side, and the cutting edges of the blades., 80 gradually assume the tilted position of the knife at double edge 90.
Under the double-edged knife 90 is an ejector blade 91 provided with a narrower shank 92 (fig. 4) which passes through an opening in the slide 84 as well as a slot 93 made in the plate 76. This slot is provided. a projection 91, approximately in its middle in height, in order to be placed under the tail 92. The two outer edges of the tail 92 are curved upwards, as seen at 83, to reinforce the tail 92 and hold the ejector blade 91 in position.
A leaf spring 82 is fixed between the upper end 89 of the slide 81 and the knife 90, the spring bearing on the end 95 bent at right angles to the shank 92 in order to force the ejector blade 91 to lightly touch the underside of double-edged knife 90.
The slide 81 is normally held in the upper position by a spring 96 stretched between a hook 97 of the slide 81 and a pin 99 fixed to the frame 11. At the lower end of the slide 81 is a roller 1.00 cooperating with a cam 101 fixed on a collar 102 rotating freely on the axis 13. A collar 103 also fixed on the axis 13 carries a clutch catch 101. The collars 102 and 103 are driven by the catch 101 carried by the latter (seen in section in Fig. 1) which engages in a notch 105 of the first, the front notch a width approximately double that of the toc 101.
The axis 13 rotates 360 during a cycle of operations and, during the first part of the rotation, the clutch catch 101 moves away from the surface limiting the posterior end of the notch 105 of the collar 102, with which it engages normally, and performs an idle movement until it comes up against the driving edge of the notch 105, after which it drives the collar 102 and, consequently, the. cam 101.
This turns and pushes down the roller 100 and, therefore, the slide 81 until the roller 100 passes the crest of the cam 101; at this time, the pebble. 100, biased by the spring 96, rolls on the curved profile of the cam 101, obliquely. this one to turn quickly. independently of the collar 103, until the drive catch 101 again engages the surface limiting the posterior end of the notch 105, thus reversing the position indicated by fig. 1. The slide 81 is thus driven downwards by the cam 101 and, from that moment, it returns in place independently of the cam at the same time as it brings it back. cam in its normal position vis-à-vis the notch 105.
It is seen that during the descent of the smooth neck 8.1 and hence from the knife to. double edge 90, if a strip of paper is placed between the knife 90 and the blades 80, the knife. will go down and. cut it. part of the strip lying between the blades 80, thus separating a heel from the strip <B> 70 </B> and at the same time cutting a ticket which can then be grasped in the usual way by the operator.
Part 120 of the cash register's front trunk is. provided, on its vertical face, with a window 121. A part 122, box-shaped, provided with a window 123 on its upper face, is attached to. part 120 and com carries a drawer 12.1 which can be pulled forward and closed by means of a key inserted in the lock 1.25.
An inclined slide 130 is. articulated at its lower end, near the lower part of the window 121, on the part 120 of the trunk, the pivot. being constituted by an axis 131 fixed to the slide 130 and to the trunk 120.
The sides of the upper end of the slide 130 are flared and the slide rests on a rod 132 carried by the slide 81, so that normally the entrance of the slide is approximately in the middle of the blades 80. When the slide 81 descends, the rod 132 allows the slide to pivot around the hinge 131 so that its upper edge comes to bear against the left blade 80, as can be seen in FIG. 1, which ensures good guidance of the heel, when the latter is cut by the knife 90, up to the drawer 12.1.
On top of the trunk 120 is also located. fixed a small casing, before two curved sides 133 joined by a front wall 13-1, which stops just above the safe 120, thus leaving a light 7.35 for the wise pitch of the ticket. Between the two rounded ends 133, a leaf. 136 rotates freely, its main end resting. normally on the top of the casing <B> 120. </B> The role of this flapper is (to keep the ticket flat on the upper surface of the casing 120 and to prevent the band from curving upwards , which could cause it to slide into the housing 120.
Operation. For the. description of the operation of the cash register shown, with issue of a receipt and cut of a stub, it is assumed that the lever 33 is. in the position of fig. 1, position in which the printing and issuance of a ticket are carried out.
The main shaft 12 rotates 360 in the senest.rorsum direction (fig. 1) and the axis 1.3 rotates 360 in the opposite direction, in each cycle of operations. Shortly after the start of the cycle, the character wheels 16 are adjusted under the control of the differential mechanism, and an alignment mechanism comes to bring the wheels into the correct position.
Once the characters have been properly aligned, the boss 140 of the cam l.8 attacks the roller 19 of the hammer control arm 20 which, thanks to the pin 25 (fig. 2), turns the plate 26. in the dextrorsum direction. The journal 34 is moved at the same time, doing so. likewise pivot the arm 35. This pivoting of the arm 35 around its axis 31. lowers the journal 38 and, thanks to the negative button 3.9 made in the printing hammer arm 40, lowers the hammer which presses the paper web 70 and the ink ribbon (not shown) against the characters, thereby producing an impression on the. strip of paper.
As the cycle continues, the printing hammer arm 40 rotates in the opposite direction to the previous one, after which the paper advances. The second boss 141 of the cam 18 then causes the hammer control arm 20 to pivot in the dextrorsum direction, thus producing a second impression on the paper web 70, printing made on the part of the strip intended to form the heel. It should be noted here that the text of the plate 56 is printed on the ticket at the end of the previous movement of the. machine.
The advance of the paper between the two operations is effected by means of the teeth of the partial graining 69, in engagement with the teeth of the gear 68 which, in turn, causes the rotation of the gears 67 and 66, the last being. attached to the advancing roller 65. The timing adjustment of the advancement is such that when the web of paper is fed, the speed is such that when the boss 141. operates the printing hammer to cause on the second print, the paper advances at a speed substantially slower than the hammer motion and therefore a clean print is obtained on the hanging web. his advancement.
Immediately after the second printing, the plate 56 comes into printing position on the part of the strip which forms the header of the next ticket. At the end of the advance, the paper strip occupies a position such that its end has passed under the leaf. 136 and passes through the opening, <B> 135, </B> from which the operator can grasp it after the knife has separated the ticket from the web as described above. In this position, the first printing plate and the first post to be printed are placed beyond the blade 80 on the right; the part of the ticket carrying the second amount is placed between the blades 80, the second printing by plate is to the left of the left blade 80.
At this moment of the cycle, the catch 104 of the tie neck 102 fixed on the axis 13 attacks the collar 103, and the latter begins to rotate, ent.drive with it the cam 101. The latter, attacking the roller 100 carried by the slide 84, causes the lowering; the heel is thus cut and a ticket remains on the trunk 120, not passing through the opening 135, where it is held by the leaf 136.
Shortly after the cutting thus carried out, the tail 82 of the ejector blade 91 meets the projection 94 of the plate 76, which presses it upwards, which causes the senestrorsum rotation of the ejected blade 91 (fig. 4) and, this way the heel is sent down.
When the slide 84 descends, the rod 132 allows the rotation of the slide 130 around its hinge 131 until its upper end bears on the left blade 80, after which the ticket. is pushed down into the. slide, by the ejected blade 91, and, passes from the slide into the receiving drawer 124.
At this moment., The operating cycle of the machine is almost finished, and the crest of the cam 101 exceeds the roller 100. The latter rises while rolling on the inclined profile of the cam 101 to quickly bring it back to its normal position. , where the leading edge of the notch 105 of the collar 102 attacks the rear edge of the toc 104 of the collar 103. It should be noted that the return of the smooth neck 84 and. of the cam 101, thanks to the spring 96, is required by the late action of the slide 84 in the operating cycle. The cam 101 passes its neutral position relative to the roller 100 a moment before the end of the operating cycle, so that there remains an insufficient period of time for the slide 84 to return fully in another way.
When the slide 84 is returned by the spring 96, the movement is very fast and we take advantage of this movement to impart a vibration to the slide 130, thanks to the rod <B> 132 </B> which strikes the bottom of the. slide 130, towards the end of its return movement. The slide 130 rests on the left blade 80 when the heel is. detached from the strip and falls into the slide; however, at this time, the rod 132 is not in contact with the bottom of the slide 130. If at this time the heel tends to remain in the slide 130, due to friction or other cause, when the rod 132 rises quickly and hits the underside of the slide, the latter vibrates, which shakes the heel, frees it and allows it to fall by gravity into the drawer 124.
For operations without saturation, the operator pushes the lever 33 in the dextrorsal direction (fig. 1), and when it is thus placed, the pin 46 goes up and engages in the notch 44 of the lever 33. Accordingly , the two brackets 49 and 52 go up and, as the paperweight roller 54 is carried by the latter, this roller goes up and no longer comes into contact with the plate roller 56.
In addition, the extension of the arm 51 and of the bracket 52 rotates in the senestrorsum direction, causing the engagement of the pin 58 in the left end of the buttonhole 59 (fig. 1), causing the rod 60 to the left. and rotating the triangular piece 62 to the left, thereby disengaging the pressure roller 64 from the feed roller 65. From this point on, during the cycle of operation, no paper feed occurs, therefore especially since the paper press roller 54 and the pressure roller 64 are not in the advancing position.
In addition, when the lever 33 is pushed in the dextrorsunr direction (fig. 1), the arm 30 (fig. 2) rotates in the same direction, doing so. thus slide the plate 26 to the left (fig. 2), which thus frees the branches of the fork of the plate 26 from the er got 25. From this moment, when the cam 18 is actuated to act on the lever 20, the plate 26 is not driven and, therefore, the printing hammer 43 is not brought into the printing position.
