La. fig. 1 représente, dans la mesure nécessaire à la compréhension de la présente invention, le dispositif Déjection fixé à une machine 1 imprimer les adresses;
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>
<Desc/Clms Page number 11>
<Desc/Clms Page number 12>

Device for ejecting envelopes $, sheets or the like. after printing them in the address printing machines.
The present invention relates to an ejector device for envelopes, sheets or similar documents which have just been printed in address printing machines, of the type in which the ejection bar against which the envelope is applied or the analogous formula which is located at the location of the printing in the machine, can be moved in the direction of its length on the table of the machine, and in which one initiates its movement of advance by means of the transmission of control of the machine, while it is returned to the rest position by a spring.
By comparison with known ejection devices of this kind, the one which is the subject of the present
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The invention is of a appreciably simpler construction and allows a safer operation * Its main characteristic consists in that, in order to push forward abruptly, in the ejection position, the ejection bar, movable following a movement of back and forth between two fixed stops on the machine frame, a lever is used which pivots in this frame and which, with each downward stroke of the printing arm, is lowered by this arm at the same time that a powerful spring, this lever Being held in this position by a locking pawl,
and being released with each upward movement made by the printing arm after an envelope, formula or the like has been printed, after which it suddenly returns to its original position under the action of the powerful spring, at the same time communicating to the ejection bar a shock which pushes this bar forward, into the ejection position, and in the opposite direction to the action of its return spring *
The ejection device which is the subject of the present invention is furthermore executed in such a way that it operates without noise,
and finally so that one can quickly and easily fix on the ejection bar an application sheet for envelopes or similar documents to be printed, this sheet covering the location where the printing is done in the machine and then moving back and forth with the ejection bar *
The following description with regard to the drawings
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
appended, given as an example, will do. well. to understand how the invention can be implemented, the characteristics which emerge both from the drawings and from the text forming of course part of the invention.
Fig. 1 shows, to the extent necessary for the understanding of the present invention, the dejection device attached to a machine 1 for printing addresses;
Fig. 2 shows the members of the ejection device in the rest position.
Fig. 3 shows the members of the ejection device in the intermediate position before their operation.
Fig. 4 shows the members of the ejection device when they are operated.
1 designates the table of the address printing machine and 2-the printing arm, which swings back and forth on the frame of the machine. This arm is provided with the print head 3 which carries the print pad 4, executed in any suitable manner.
In the address printing machine, the clichés 5 are taken successively from a reservoir 4 'and are advanced, in an intermittent movement, one after the other and in the direction of their length over a sliding path 6, so that at each operation of the machine there is a cliché 5 'at the printing location of the machine' * With each downward movement of the printing arm 2, one prints in the usual manner l envelope 7, or the like document, placed on the
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
This envelope 7 then comes to be placed on an application sheet 8, in presspan for example, which surrounds the location 5 'of the printing, this sheet 8 being able to be provided with a division,
or even stop marks 9 glued on this sheet, and ensuring the positioning of the envelope in the correct place. It is advantageous, in certain cases, to use as application sheet 8 a metal foil provided with a cover, therefore in particular a matt aluminum foil applied to a sheet of paper or presspan, this aluminum foil having the advantage of lasting as well as allowing inscriptions or signs to be easily traced.
One of the side edges 10 of the applicator sheet 8 is curved, as shown in particular in Figs. 2 and 3, and this curved edge 10 can easily be introduced from the front, in the direction of arrow 41, between the two planes of a folded bar 11 (fig. 1) constituting the lower flange of an angle iron the vertical flange of which is designated by 12. To facilitate the introduction of the application sheet 8 into the groove of the bar 11, it is advantageous to hollow out the upper plane of the bar 11 at the introduction end .. as seen at 42 in FIG. 1.
On the other hand, to limit the depth of insertion of the sheet 8 by its curved edge 10 into the bar 11, the rear end of the bar 11 formed by the two superimposed strips of sheet metal is crushed at 43, or else provision is made at this point on the bar any other stop which limits the
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
edge insertion depth 10.
The sheet 8 connected in the manner described to the bar 11, 12 thus follows the movements of this bar which in turn rests, in the direction perpendicular to the sliding path 6 of the clichés, on the table 1 of the printing machine. addresses.
The bar 11, 12 is mounted on the ejection bar 13 which is movable in one direction and in the other parallel to the plate 1 and in the direction of its length, and it passes through two fixed inserts, or two blocks 14 and 15 arranged on the table 1 of the machine. Between the two inserts 14 and 15, a block 16 has been fixed on the ejector bar 13.
After loosening the assembly which joins the block 16 to the bar 13, the bar 13 can be passed more or less through the block 16, and again locked in this part 16, the amount by which the bar 13 is moved. through block 16 depending on the size of the formulas or envelopes used, so that the larger these formulas, the more it is necessary to move the injection bar backwards through the block 16, then block it in this part , so that the transverse bar 11, 12 occupies, in the rest position of the ejector device, a replacement in which it is remote from the printing location 5 'of the machine by a distance corresponding to the dimension of the formula to to print*
A spring 19,
wrapped around the ejector bar 13 between the block 16 and the front part 14 of the machine frame, constantly tends to move the block 16 with the bar 13 towards
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
the rear against part 15 of the frame, so that in the rest position of the components (fig. 2) the stop buffer 33, fixed on the part 16, rests against a shock absorber 34 made of felt, leather or of a similar material, placed in a hole in part 15 of the frame.
On the block 16 is mounted a pawl 44 which pivots around a journal 43, and a spring not shown constantly tends to push upwards, the upward stroke of the pawl 44 being limited by the fact that the arm 45 returns. against the front wall of block 16.
On this oliquet 44 is supported, in the initial position of the members (Fig. 2) the heel 21 of a lever 22, in the form of a sector, in the embodiment shown, @e pivoting lever around the pin 23 in the frame of the device.
Against a second heel 24 of this lever 22 is applied, when the members are in the rest position, a pawl 25 whose application surface is curved along a cele having the journal 23 as its center.
This pawl 25 has a locking heel 26, and it is constantly attracted against the heel 24 of the lever 22 by a spring 27 which is fixed at 28 in the frame of the device. A powerful spring 30, fixed at 29 on the part 14 of the frame, and at 30 'on the lever 22, and whose median axis passes, when the members are in the rest position, through the middle of the journal 23, tends constantly maintaining the lever 22 in the angular position shown in FIG. 2, and at
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
bring it back to that position when pulled away.
The members of the ejection device are arranged on the table of the address printing machine so that, in the downward stroke of the printing arm 2 which starts from the position shown in FIG. 1, a bracket 31 # screwed onto this arm 2 meets the heel 24 of the lever 22. Consequently, when the arm 2 goes down, the bracket 31 lowers the lever 22 from the position of FIG. 2, in the opposite direction to the action exerted by its spring 30, in the direction of arrow 32, as shown in FIG. 3. As soon as in this downward pivoting the heel 24 of the lever 22 has passed in front of the heel 26 of the lever 26, this heel 26 of the lever 25 passes, as shown in FIG. 3, and under the action of the spring 27, over the heel 24 of the lever 22 which it retains.
When pivoting the lever 22 downward from the position of the pin 2 and into the position of FIG. 3: the square 21 of lever 22 is placed in front of pawl 44 of part 16.
When the members are in the position of the pin 3, the envelope 7, or the similar part which rests on the application sheet 8, is then printed. When the cliché 5 'which is at the place of printing has been printed on the envelope 7, the printing arm 2 returns in a known manner from the lowered position to the raised position shown in FIG. 1, and consequently, the stop 31 of the arm 2 also rises, abandoning the position of FIG. 3.
During this upward movement of the arm 2, the stop 31 meets, on the way up, the projecting part 35 of the pawl 25 (see Fig. 4), which has the effect that the pawl is folded backwards, to
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
From the position of FIG, 3 and for a short time, in the direction of arrow 36 and in the opposite direction to the action exerted by the spring 27. By this means, the heel 24 of. lever 22 is released from the locking heel 26 of the pawl 25, and the lever 22 is very quickly brought back, by the powerful spring 30, from the position of figo 3 in that of pin 4, which corresponds to the initial position lever 22 as shown on rod 2.
When the lever pivots upwards while passing from the position of the pin 3 in that of the pin 4, the heel 21 of the lever 22 meets the pawl 44 provided on the part 16, and thus communicates to this part such a shock. launched with the ejection bar 13 of the bar 11, 12, and with the application sheet 8, forwards, in the direction of arrow 37 of fig, 3, and in the opposite direction of the action exerted by the spring 19, which causes the printed envelope 7, or a similar document, to be launched in a known manner, and in the same direction 37, out of the address printing machine, and can be collected in a container arranged accordingly * In this movement of advance of the bar 13 in the direction of arrow 37, a second iron buffer 38, arranged on the part 16, strikes a damper 39,
made of felt or a similar material, arranged in a hole in the part 14 of the frame, @e which makes it possible to quietly limit the forward stroke accomplished by the ejection bar 13 in the direction of arrow 37.
Immediately after the ejection movement, executed in the direction of arrow 37 by bar 13, is
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
ended as a result of the shock communicated to the part 16, which simply has the effect of moving the lever 22 from the position of fig, 3 to that of fig, 4 or 2, the return spring 19 exerts its action again. action and brought the ejection bar 13, with the parts which are integral with it, from the position of FIG. 4 in the initial position of FIG. 2, in which the part 16 returns to be placed with its pawl 44 below the heel 21 of the striking lever, given that in this position of the striking lever 22, and as shown in FIG.
2, the lower end of the heel 21 is at a height such that the pawl 44 does not meet the heel 21 when the part 16 is brought back from the position of FIG. 4 in that of FIG. 2,
The ejection device is then ready for a new maneuver. This maneuver occurs during the next downward stroke of the printing arm, when it is necessary to print the clichà which is then at the place of printing.
But if it is a cliché which must not be printed, the device described below prevents, after the downward flow of the printing arm 2, the raising of the lever 22 which causes it to pass from the position of the pin 3 in that of FIG. 4, and consequently the operation of the ejection device.
This device consists of a bar 18 arranged parallel to the ejection bar 13, able to pivot in the two parts 14 and 15 of the frame, and passing through an extension, in the form of a fork, of the part 16. The end 46

bar 18 which is on the side of the plate pressure location is bent like a crank arm, and is resiliently connected, by a spring 47, to a rod 48 on which the bar is fixed 49 of a transmission which is connected in a known manner to the transmission control mission of the positive allowing, in the machine for printing the addresses, to skip clichés. When this control transmission of the device making it possible to skip the clichés is in a position in which the cliché reached the location of the printing is printed, one exerts by the bar 49, and in the direction of the arrow 52, a pressure which has the effect that the bar 18 occupies the angular position shown in the figures of the accompanying drawing.
When the bar 18 occupies this position, a block 50 which is fixed to the rear end of the bar 18 occupies relative to the position of FIG. 2 a position folded forward, in laquel- this block is moved away from the path followed by a pin 51, mounted on the lever 22, and in which it therefore does not prevent the lever 22 from moving from the position of fig. 3 in that of FIG. 4 or 2.
If, however, the cliché reached at the point of printing is of a category which must not be used, during the. lowering movement of the arm 2 the control transmission of the device which makes it possible to skip certain shots moves the bar 49 in the opposite direction of the arrow 52, and by this means communicates to the arm 46 a rotational movement such that the bar 18 turns in such a way so that the block 50 is folded towards the lever 22 when the parts are in the position of fig. 3, which has the effect that this block comes

stand in front of the pin 51 of the lever 22 and thus prevents this lever 22 from rising, even after the pawl 25 has passed from the position of FIG. 3 in that of FIG. 4.
Consequently, the voting device is not activated, and the unprinted envelope remains at the location of the printing, and this until it is printed. given that as soon as a cliché to be printed arrives in the printing position, the block 50 is again separated, by the control transmission of the device for skipping clichés, from the path followed by the pin 51 of the lever 22 , as shown in the figures.
If the ejector device has been arranged on a machine in which the printing arm stops in the upper position when a cliché is skipped, and when each of the clichés is to be printed only once, the device which has just been described can be omitted, since in this case the ejection device is not actuated anyway when a cliché to be skipped reaches the place of printing.
If the ejection device has to be completely stopped, it suffices simply to remove the stop 31 provided on the printing arm 2 ,, or move it on this arm so that when it is lowered it no longer meets the heel 24 of the lever 22. As shown in fig 1, this result can be obtained in a simple way by rotating the stop 31 around its point of attachment on the arm 2, and by making it describe an angle of @ 0 which causes it to go into the position shown in phantom on fig 1.

Since, in a device 1 according to the present invention, the envelope 7 or the similar document to be printed is applied to the sheet 8 which moves in one direction and in the other with the ejection bar 13, it It can never happen that this envelope or similar formula comes to be placed below the transverse bar 11, 12 connected to the ejection bar 13.
On the other hand, to prevent the envelope to be printed 7 from slipping under the sheet 8 from the front when it is put in place, we have also fixed on the machine table, in front of the application sheet, a bar 40 or a ruler, which rests directly on the plate 1 of the table, as shown in fig, 1.
