a) l'oscillation du levier 19, soies l'action de son ressort 20 et le retour du cliquet 63 dans sa position verrouillée sous l'action d'un ressort non représenté, afin de main tenir l'organe de lecture 68 du viseur V et l'organe d'enregistrement 44 de l'enre gistreur E dans- leurs nouvelles positions, qui sont fonction du numéro d'ordre de la touche manipulée; b) le retrait de la plaquette 23 qui revient en position éclipsée ou de repos;
Au cours de ce déplacement angulaire, des cames 76, solidaires du bâti, en prise avec les extrémités du verrou 73, maintiennent celui-ci engagé dans les dentures des pi gnons 45, et le pignon d'entraînement e1 du totalisateur est entraîné dans un dé placement angulaire d'iuie amplitude cor- respondant au déplacement angulaire subi par le secteur denté 44 lors de l'enregis trement;
c) à la fin de ce déplacement angulaire de l'axe carré 41, les extrémités du verrou 73 sont en regard d'évidements 77 que pré sentent les cames 76, de sorte que ce ver rou ne reste en prise avec les dentures des pignons 45 que par la faible action des ressorts v;
Pour cela, il peut, soit abaisser une touche 4b, du clavier de commande, soit- actionner la mani velle 2 en sens inverse des aiguilles d'une. mon= tre. En effet, lors d'un tel actionnement de la manivelle 2, l'arbre 39 n'entraîne plus-l'or- gane de commande 46;
2 On compose 1e multiplicande au clavier réduit. 3 On enfonce ensuite la touche 4e d'addi- tion-multiplication et on la maintient enfon cée pendant que la machine travaille en r6pé- tant l'addition du multiplicande de la façon suivante: a) elle transfert d'abord la valeur du multiplicande au totalisateur T; b) puis elle ajoute à cette première valeur du multiplicande déjà transférée une même valeur du multiplicande, la somme se substituant au totalisateur T à la valeur simple;
<B> calculating </B> machine equipped with a reduced <B> keyboard </B>. The present invention relates to a calculating machine making it possible to perform the four operations and provided with a keypad for controlling the various operations, a keypad reduced to ten numbered keys for entering numbers into the machine,
a recording device for the numbers entered and an indicating device making it possible to read the results of the operations carried out.
This machine differs from known machines by the fact. that the recording device comprises a series of recording units each provided with a toothed sector integral with a pinion, by the fact that each recording member is individually movable angülairement relative to the others,
by the fact that a locking device allows the recording members to be locked in their relative angular positions and that all of the recording members thus rusty can be moved step by step axially along a shaft, means maintaining, during this axial displacement, the angular position of this assembly with respect to this shaft, by the fact that this shaft is movable parallel to itself between two extreme working positions,
one for recording for which the pinions integral with the recording organs are mechanically and individually connected to the drive members whose movements are.
controlled by the manipulation of the numbered keys of the reduced keyboard, the amplitude of these individual angular displacements being a function of the serial number carried by the key manipulated, the lowering of each key causing simultaneously, by the intermediary diary of an exhaust device, the step-by-step axial displacement of all the recording devices along said shaft,
the other transfer for which the recording members locked in their relative angular position are, by the intermediary of toothed sectors, mechanically connected to reading members of the indicating device and driven in rotation by said shaft.
The appended drawing shows, schematically and by way of example, one embodiment of the calculating machine forming the subject of the invention.

The calculating machine shown has a housing 1 protecting the parts of the machine carried by a frame B. From this housing emerge a crank 2, a reduced keyboard. ten keys 3 'bearing the serial numbers from 0 to 9 and intended for the introduction of names into the machine, and a keypad of keys 4 for the control of the various operations. In addition, the housing 1 has three windows 5, 6 and 7.
Window 5 shows a viewfinder Z reproducing the last number introduced into the machine. Window 7 shows a figure from each of the read devices 9 of a totalizer T, while window 6 shows a figure from each of the read devices of a C counter.
A motor M is connected by intern-i intermediary of a clutch and a reverser 8 to the various parts of the machine.
The keys 3 of the reduced keyboard activate a mechanism causing the number to be recorded. This mechanism (fig. 3) comprises ten transmission devices similar to each other and each connected to one of the keys 3.
Each of these transmission devices carries a rod 12 integral with a key 3 and sliding in guides (not shown) arranged in the frame B of the machine. This rod 12 is mechanically connected, by the intermediary of a lever 13 oscillating along an axis 14 carried by the frame, to a pusher 15 under the action of a spring 16 and sliding in guides (not shown ) fitted out in the frame.
Each push-button 15 carries a nose 17 which actuates a finger 18 common to all the push-buttons 15 connected to the keys 3 bearing the order numbers from 1 to 9. This common finger 18 is integral with a lever 19 under the set. 'action of a spring 20 and pivots on a pin 21 carried by the frame. This lever 19 carries an actuating spout 22.
Each push-button 15, connected to a key bearing one of the order numbers from 1 to 9, also carries a stop plate 23, the distance ca (fig. 11a) of which from a horizontal reference plane b is variable. according to the order number carried by the key to which it is connected.
The push-button 15, connected to the bearing button 3. the sequence number 0, carries a nose 24 (fig. 3) actuating a lever 25 pivoted on the axis 21. This lever 25 is also actuated during the manipulation of the keys 3 bearing the sequence numbers from 1 to 9, by means of a spout 24a integral with the lever 19.
This lever 2.5 carries an actuating finger 26 which causes the step by step advancement of a carriage 27 (FIG. 4) carrying the various organs of a positive recording device E.
This carriage 27 comprises two plates 28 sliding along guides t and connected to each other by spacers 29 (fig. 2) and the support 30 (fig. 4) provided with a rack 31. This rack cooperates with an exhaust pawl 32 (fig. 5) and a retaining pawl 33, articulated on the support 34.
The latter, which carries sockets g engaged on a tube 37, forms with plates 35, connected by spacers 36, -He large carriage 10 sliding along this tube 37.
An oscillating arm 38 is fixed to each of the ends of the tube 37 which is freely mounted on a control shaft 39 carried by the frame of the machine. The carriage 2 7 is. driven in the movements of the carriage 10 by the exhaust pawl 32 in engagement with the 1st rack 31.
This escape pawl is actuated by the finger 26 against the action of a spring. reminder 40 (fig. 5). Thus, when lowering a key 3, the small. carriage 27 moves forward under the action of a spring not shown, one step relative to the large carriage 10.
The oscillating arms 38 each carry a rotary bush h crossed by a square axis 41 on which slides a bush 42 (fig. 6) provided with cheeks 43 and located between the plates 28 of the small carriage, so as to be drawn into the displacements. of the last.
On this bush 42 are mounted side by side recording members constituted by toothed sectors 4'4 (only one of which is shown in the drawing) each secured to a pinion 45 rotating freely on said bush 42.
One of the ends of the control shaft 39 carries a notched wheel 72 cooperating with a pawl 71 integral with a control member 46 rotating freely on the shaft 39. This control member 46 has two sectors toothed 47a ,.
47b, connected by convex surfaces 48a, 48b. This control member 46 is in mechanical connection with a drive member 49 provided with two toothed sectors 50c and 50b located 180 from each other and connected to each other by concave surfaces 51a and 51b which can slide the -long of the convex surfaces 48a, 48b of the control member 46.
Finally, the latter also has a groove 52 (FIG. 10) in which is engaged a finger 53 integral with a lever 54 oscillating on a pin 55 carried by the frame. A link 56 connects the arm 54 to the arm 38. In FIG. 10, the wall of the frame carrying the axis 55 is omitted for the sake of clarity of the drawing.
The control member 46 causes, as described below, on the one hand, the oscillation of the square axis 41 around the control axis 39 between two extreme positions and, on the other hand, the rotation of this axis 41 at the desired instants: For one of said extreme positions of the square axis 41 (FIG. 6), the toothed sectors 44 can mesh with the drive pins if the totalizer device T described in detail in patent N 305765.
For the other extreme position of the square axis 41 (fig. 7.1a), the pinions 45 are engaged with teeth 57 carried by drive members 61 movable vertically, each individually, under the action. of springs 58. Each member 61 has two guide slots 60 through which guides 59 carried by the plates 28 of the small carriage.
Each drive member 61 (only one of which is shown in FIG. 6) is provided with a set of teeth 62 (the teeth of which are in the form of wolf teeth) with which a locking pawl 63 cooperates, pivoted on a axis 64 carried by the plates da. small cart. The shank 65 of this pawl 63 is intended to be actuated by the actuator 22 against the action of a spring. reminder (not .shown) which tends to hand hold this pawl in. taken with toothing 62.
Finally, each drive member 61 carries a third set of teeth 66 in engagement with a pinion 67 integral with a drum 68 bearing the numbers from 0 to 9 arranged regularly around its periphery. Each drum 68 rotates freely on an axis 69 carried by the plates 28 of the small carriage and all of these drums constitute the viewfinder V situated opposite the window 5 in which appears the number recorded last by the recorder E .
Each drive member 61 is. provided with an in talon 70 intended to cooperate with the stop plates 23 carried by the pushers 15 so as to place the reading members of the viewfinder and the recording members 44 of the recorder in angular positions corresponding to the number d order carried by key 3 manipulated.
In fact, when the operator lowers any one of the keys 3, for example the key bearing the gold number 2, he causes the second stop plate 23 (fig. 11b) to be placed in the active position. the stack formed by the nine plates 23 carried by the pushers 15.
The distance a of this second plate 23 from the reference plane b defined by the heels 70 of the drive members 61 in the rest position (FIG. 1111) is chosen so that a displacement of this member 61 of an amplitude equal to cc causes an angular displacement c of the toothed sector 44 equal to twice the pitch of the teeth of this toothed sector 44.
Lowering a key 3 therefore causes: a) the placing in active position of a stop plate 23 whose distance to a reference plane b is a function of the gold number carried by the key operated; b) the oscillation of the lever 19, the beak 22 of which acts on the tail 65 of the first pawl 63 on the left of the recording device in order to disengage it from the teeth 62 and to unlock the drive member 61 far left of the recording device .
This member 61 is then moved vertically by its return spring 58 to a position defined by its heel 70 coming to bear on the stop plate 23 placed in the active position. Finally, this member 61 drives the extreme left pinions 45 and 67 of the recording device and of the viewfinder and causes angular displacement of the far left reading member 68 of the viewfinder and of the recording device. 44 extreme left of recorder E equal to one,
multiple of the pitch of the toothing of pinion 67 and of the toothing of sector 44, corresponding to the serial number carried by the key operated; c) the oscillation of the lever 25 whose beak 26 acts on the exhaust 32 and retaining 33 pawls in order to cause, on the one hand, the release of the exhaust pawl 32 from the teeth of the rack 31 and, on the other hand, the engagement of the retaining pawl 33 with the teeth of this same rack, in order to retain the small carriage in its position against the action of its return spring (not shown),
as long as key 3 is hand held down. When the operator releases said key 3, the spring 16 raises the latter and returns the pusher 15 to its original position, which causes:
a) the oscillation of the lever 19, bristles the action of its spring 20 and the return of the pawl 63 in its locked position under the action of a spring not shown, in order to hold the reading member 68 of the viewfinder. V and the recording member 44 of the recorder E in their new positions, which depend on the serial number of the key used; b) the withdrawal of the plate 23 which returns to the eclipsed or rest position;
c) the oscillation of the lever 25 under the action of its return spring and therefore the release of the pawls 32 and 33 which return. to their original position shown below, which causes the release of the retaining pawl of the. toothing of the mesh, the advancement of one step to the left of the small carriage under the action of its spring, and finally the engagement of the escape pawl 32 with the following tooth of the rack.
Thus, during the raising of the manipulated key 3, the small carriage has advanced one step to the left and the second drive member from the left is now in the recording position.
The manipulation of the key 3 bearing the order number 0 only causes the advance of the small carriage one step to the left, but does not cause the unlocking of the tm of the drive members 61.
To transfer the number recorded by the recorder to the totalizer, the operator presses a 4th key on the control keyboard. This key causes, by means of organs not shown, but of known type: a) the displacement, under the action of a spring not shown, of the large carriage 10 to the left, in order to bring the recorder into position in front of the totalizer T; b) starting the motor 11 which rotates the control shaft 39.
The shaft 39 drives, in the direction of. arrow f, the control member 46 via the pawl 71 and the notched wheel 72, which causes; a) the oscillation of the arms 38 and of the square shaft 41 around the axis 39, the concave 51a of the member 49 and the convex 48a parts of the member 46 sliding one relative to the au be. This oscillation is controlled by the finger 53 (fig. 10) engaged in the groove 52.
Thus, the pinions 45 move away from the racks 57 (fig. 11e) and the teeth of the sectors 44 come into a position for which they can mesh with the teeth of the drive pinions e1 (fig. 11i).
of the totalizer. The toothed sectors 44 are rigidly held in their relative angular positions by a latch 73 guided by radial grooves-es h formed in the two cheeks 43. This latch is held in engagement with the teeth of the pinions 45 by spells v; b) the toothing 47a, in engagement with the toothing 50a, rotates the square axis 41 by 180.
During this angular displacement, cams 76, integral with the frame, in engagement with the ends of the latch 73, keep the latter engaged in the teeth of the pins 45, and the drive pinion e1 of the totalizer is driven in a angular displacement of an amplitude corresponding to the angular displacement undergone by the toothed sector 44 during recording;
c) at the end of this angular displacement of the square axis 41, the ends of the latch 73 are opposite recesses 77 which the cams 76 present, so that this wheel worm does not remain in engagement with the teeth of the pinions 45 that by the weak action of the springs v;
d.) the concave part 51b slides along the convex part 48b while the axis 41 is brought back, by the finger 53 engaged in the groove 52, in an intermediate position for which the toothed sectors 44 and the pinions 45 are out of reach of the gears e1 and racks57 (fig. 110); e) the toothing 47b meshes with the toothing 50b and causes a new angular displacement of 180 of the shaft 41.
The toothed sectors 44 then performed 360 and are again in the angular positions corresponding to the manipulated figure; f) the convex part 48a slides under the concave part 51a while the finger 53, engaged in the groove 52, causes the shaft 41 to oscillate up to its initial position for which the pinions 45 are in engagement with the teeth 57 of the actuators (fig. 11a). During this movement of the shaft 41, the ends of the latch 73 rest on noses 74 integral with the frame B.
Thus, when the shaft 41 is in the recording position, the lock 73 is hand held by the noses 74 out of reach of the teeth of the pinions 45, against the action of the springs v.
Thus, the recorded number has been transferred to the totalizer T. If the operator wishes to multiply this number by an integer, he. it only needs to do the operations a) <B> to </B> f) above a. number of times equal to this integer. The number recorded on the recorder is then added to itself by the totalizer a number of times equal to this integer.
The operations of subtraction and division are obtained by always rotating the control member 46 in the direction of arrow f, but by placing the totalizer and the large carriage in a relative position such that the teeth of the toothed sectors 44 can mesh with gears e2 connected to the reading members 9 by an intermediate pinion, in order to reverse the direction of rotation of these reading members (see on this subject patent N 305 765.
The transfer operation being completed, the operator causes resetting, that is to say the return to their initial position of all the components carried by the. small carriage, by angular displacement of the control shaft 39 in the opposite direction of the arrow f.
To do this, he can either lower a key 4b on the control keyboard, or actuate the handle 2 counterclockwise. my = being. Indeed, during such an actuation of the crank 2, the shaft 39 no longer drives the control member 46;
on the other hand, a cam 78 (FIG. 2) mechanically connected to the control shaft 39 by means of a coupling in one drive direction 71a, 72a is driven in rotation. This cam acts on a roller k carried by one of two arms 79 (FIG. 12) interconnected by a beam 81 of cross section in the form of (J and oscillating along an axis 80 carried by the frame.
Inside this IJ slide two fingers 82, only one of which is visible in FIG. 12, carried by a bar 83 integral with two guide members 84 engaged on the guide rods 59 on either side of the group of drive members 61.
This bar 83 is thus actuated downwards by the oscillation of the arms 79 against the action of a return spring (not shown). During this movement, the beam engages with a heel 86 (Fig. 6) of each of the drive members 61 and brings them back to their initial position (Fig. 11 & and 12).
The return of the driving members to their initial positions causes the return to zero of the reading members of the viewfinder V and of the recording members 44 of the recorder.
To allow the recording of a new number, it suffices to lower a key 4c which causes the return of the two carriages to their extreme right position by winding a cable 87- on a drum (not shown) connected to the motor by a coupling (not shown) whose engagement of the two parts is controlled by the lowering of said key 4c.
To carry out a multiplication, the machine to be calculated described proceeds by successive additions, which are done in the semi-automatic variant represented by FIG. 1, as follows: 1 First press the 4m key by pressing the syllable Rep.
2 Dial the multiplicand using the reduced keyboard. 3 Then press the 4th add-multiplication key and keep it pressed while the machine works by repeating the addition of the multiplicand as follows: a) it first transfers the value of the multiplicand to the totalizer T; b) then it adds to this first value of the multiplicand already transferred the same value of the multiplicand, the sum replacing the totalizer T at the simple value;
c) it repeats this operation too, as long as key 4e is kept pressed; d) the shot counter C records the number of successive additions thus made. 4 The user monitors the Lu <B> C, </B> -count and interrupts the additions as soon as the counter indicates the units digit of the multiplier, releasing the 4e key.
5 Then he moves recorder E one row to the left using the 4f key. 6 He pushes it in again. 4th key, until the tens digit of the multiplier appears on counter C. (If the tens digit is zero, the digit of the hundreds is changed by pressing the 4f key a second time.) 7 As soon as the exact number of tens has appeared on counter C, he presses the 4f key again to move recorder E once again one row to the left, and we thus obtain, after the necessary additions made by the machine ,
the hundreds digit of the multiplier on counter C. Then we continue to proceed in this way, digit after digit, until the full multiplier appears on counter C.
In one embodiment entirely. of the machine, the multiplication can be carried out as follows: 1 First press the; key 4m marked Ref.
2 We compose the reduced keyboard garlic multiplicand. 3 A multiplication key X is then pressed (not shown in FIG. 1), which then makes it possible to compose the multiplier using the reduced keyboard.
4 During the composition of the multiplier, the machine automatically carries out the successive additions, and the successive lateral shifts, and from row to row, of the recorder E, the multiplication starting with the additions determined by the highest digit (the one on the left) and ending with the additions determined by the units digit, or respectively by the fractional digit or not, placed furthest to the right.
I On the other hand, the division is always automatic, whether the machine is executed in its automatic variant or in its non-automatic variant. The only difference lies in the fact that in the semi-automatic machine the division key (4b) must be kept pressed for the duration of the operation, which is not necessary for the fully automatic machine.
The division is carried out by successive subtractions, and the operation is controlled as follows: 1 First press the multiplication-division selection key 4 marked Rep, this key suppresses the automatic reset of the recorder E.
2 The dividend is dialed with the reduced keyboard.
3 The 4k key is then pressed to move the dividend recorded on the regulator E as far to the left as possible, and thus ensure the maximum useful capacity of the machine.
4 The 4th addition key is pressed for a very short time to transfer the recorded values from recorder E to totalizer T.
5 Press the control key III to reset the recorder and the counter C.
6 The divider is normally dialed on the reduced keyboard.
7. Press the button 47c, which has the effect of moving the recorder E all. to the left. $ We finally press the division key 4b. The division. s'% ffeet then by itself, by successive subtractions, the recorder F, moving step by step, step to the right, the quotient appearing at the counter C and the successive remainders at the totalizer T.
