Process for the preparation of a salt of a new, hardenable, basic ternary condensation product. The subject of the present patent is a process for the preparation of a salt of a new, curable, basic ternary condensation product, which is characterized in that a) approximately 1 mole of hexamethylolmelamine hexamethyl ether, b) approximately 2 moles of N-methylol stearic acid amide and c )
About 1 mol of triethanolamine condenses and the resulting basic ternary condensation product is converted into the quaternary ammonium salt with the aid of benzyl chloride.
One can proceed, for example, by first heating about 1 mol of N-methylol stearic acid amide at a pressure of 30 mm with about 1 mol of triethanolamine to 110 for 2 hours, then adding about 1 mol of hexamethylol melamine hexamethyl ether to the melt the mixture is heated to 120 hours under reduced pressure, then about 1 mol of N-methylol stearic acid amide is added and stirring is continued until a sample is soluble in dilute acetic acid,
and finally treated the resulting condensation product with benzyl chloride.
The quaternary ammonium salt of the new, hardenable, basic ternary condensation product obtained in this way is a wax-like mass that is soluble in hot water. It can be used as an auxiliary in the textile, leather and paper industries.
In the example below, parts mean weighted parts. The temperatures are given in degrees Celsius.
Example: At a pressure of 30 mm, 30 parts of N-methylol stearic acid amide, 0.5 part of dry, powdered sodium carbonate and 15 parts of triethanolamine are melted and heated to 1100 for 2 hours. The melt is then soluble in dilute acetic acid. It is mixed with 36 parts of the methylolmelamine methyl ether described below and the mixture is further heated to 120 in vacuo.
After 2 hours, a further 30 parts of N-methylol stearic acid amide were added and stirring was continued until a sample was soluble in dilute acetic acid. If this is the case, the resulting condensation product is stirred at 85 to 105 for 4 to 6 hours with 13 parts of benzyl chloride, whereupon a waxy mass is obtained which is soluble in hot water and used as an auxiliary in the textile, leather and paper industries Can be used.
The hexamethylolmelamine hexamethyl ether used was prepared according to the information in the last section of the example of Swiss Patent No. 251642, with the only difference that the syrup obtained after the condensation, filtered and concentrated to about 99% not. taken up in benzene, but was filtered hot to remove the remaining salt.
