Process for the preparation of an optical brightening agent. The present patent relates to a process for the preparation of an optical brightening agent. The process is characterized by the fact that 4-nitro-4'-atnino-stilbene-2,2'-disulfonic acid is aezliert with a 2-AeS # loxy-4-methyl-benzoyl halide, the acyloxy group is soaped off to the hydroxyl group and this is oxethylated ,
thereupon the nitro group of the stilbene derivative is reduced to the amino group and sets with a cyanuric halide and the halogen atoms of the triazine ring react with ammonia.
The new brightening agent obtained, the 4- [2 "', 4"' - diamino-triazinyl-amino (6 "')] -4' [2" - (ss-oxy-ethoxy) -4 "- methyl-benzoylamino ] - stilbene-2,2'-disulphonic acid is a yellowish powder and has a good cellulose affinity.
Example: 40 parts of 4-nitro-4'-amino-stilbene-2,2'-disulfonic acid are rushed in 800 parts of water with the addition of 10.6 parts. Soda ge dissolved and after the addition of 27.2 parts of crystallized sodium acetate at 0 to 5 with. a solution of 42.5 parts of 2-ethoxy-4-methylben7oylehlorid in 150 parts of benzene vigorously stirred for 10 hours. It is now neutralized with 150% soda solution until the Gremiseh reacts neutrally, heated.
to 80 to 90 and at this tempera ture adds enough soda with stirring until the reaction mixture continues to give an alkaline phenolphthalein reaction. The benzene is distilled off on the descending condenser and, after addition of 60 parts of common salt, the aqueous suspension is allowed to cool. The disulfonic acid disulfonic acid, which is isolated by suction, forms an orange-yellow, readily water-soluble powder after drying.
57.8 parts of 4-nitro-4 '- (2 "-oxy-4" -methyl-benzoylamino) -stilbene-2,2'-disulphonic acid are dissolved in 600 parts of water, 4 parts of sodium hydroxide are added and added dropwise at 60 to 70, with stirring, 8.05 parts of ethylene chlorohydrin. The mixture is stirred at 60 to 70 until the mixture is neutral or only reacts weakly with phenolphthalein alkaline. the addition of caustic soda produces a clearly phenolphthalein-alkaline reaction and salted out with 100 parts of common salt.
The disodium salt of 4-nitro-4'- [2 "- (ss-oxy-ethoxy) -4" -methyl-benzoylamino] -stilbene-2,2'-disulfonic acid obtained in this way is conventionally prepared by the process of Bechamp to 4-amino-4'- [2 "- (ss-oxy-ethoxy) -4" -methylbenzoylamino] - stilbene-2,2'-disulfonic acid.
27.4 parts of 4-amino-4 '- [2 "- (B-oxy-ethoxy) -4" -methyl-benzoylamino] - stilbene-2,2'-disulfonic acid are dissolved in 800 parts of water and 5, 3 parts calc. Soda is dissolved neutrally and mixed with an acetone solution of 9.25 parts of cyanuric chloride at -2 to 0 with thorough stirring, the reaction mixture being formed by the simultaneous addition of 15% soda solution. is kept neutral to slightly acidic.
The reaction mixture, which has been kept neutral with soda, is stirred until primary amino groups are no longer detectable. If diazotizable amino groups are still detectable even after prolonged stirring, a further small amount of cyanuric chloride is added until the diazo reaction does not occur. The primary condensation product thus obtained is now mixed with excess aqueous ammonia and then heated to 90 to 100,
whereby the acetone is distilled off and recovered by means of a descending condenser. With the addition of ammonia, the mixture is kept clearly phenolphthalein alkaline at 90 to 100 for 11 / c hours, filtered hot and salted. 100 parts of table salt.
The disodium salt of 4- [2 "', 4"' - diamino-triazinyl-amino- (6 "')] -4'- [2" - (ss-oxy-ethoxy-4 "- methyl - benzoylamino) obtained in this way ] - stilbene - 2,2'-disulfonic acid forms a pale yellowish powder and is suitable for lightening undyed cellulose fibers.
